We began the month with our DCM where we had UCLA KCI promote their Joint Training event. We also introduced the Division Leadership Team and engaged in fun icebreakers. On May 10-14 we had our first service week revolved around Mental Health. Here we made infographics, raised money for various charities, and more. Towards the middle, we had our Frivolity Friday Event where we either engaged in an hour of self-care or service hours. Lastly, we will be having our last service week May 24-28.

Yunju Park Historian |Larchmont In the afternoon of Saturday, May 1st , the Larchmont Charter Key Club gathered together at the Santa Monica Beach for one of our biggest volunteer events for the 2020-2021 term. After maintaining a digital environment for the past year, it was pleasurable having quality time with our fellow members and leaders. During the event, when all participants had first arrived, the club recited the Key Club spirit chant and took a group photo in the sand.
While leaders attempted to hype things up, it didn’t work out perfectly because of the awkwardness. However, as people were split up in several group to pick up trashes, people started interacting more. Everyone was competitive, thinking that the loser team will be hit by water balloons. Each team collected at least three bags worth of trashes. Frankly, it was gross picking up pieces of cardboard, food, and wrappers that strangers used. However, in the end, we beautified our own community for a sense of responsibility and safety.
Esteffany Paredes Historian | South Gate On May 8th from 4-6 pm, Division 13 West held a Mother’s day DCM. Everyone in division 13 west was able to participate. During the DCM the new DLT for the 2021-2022 term was introduced. SGHS Key club along with other clubs announced their club updates. Monthly recognitions announced.
During the DCM, officers and members played man icebreakers and activities. For instance, we played scribble.io, guess the celebrity, and swipe left or right. There was also a service event which was color-a-smile where officers and members were able to color drawings provided by the key club in order to receive service hours. Overall, it was a very fun and entertaining DCM where everyone got to meet new people.

Mincheng Zeng Historian | Lincoln This event was writing and creating cards for residents in assisted living facilities during quarantine, who perhaps needed a little encouragement. Because it can get lonely sometimes, the letters included details about what we have been doing to pass time and our favorite hobbies during quarantine! We also include a brief introduction about ourselves and a positive, encouraging quote for them. Images and colors were also incorporated to make it look more creative. This event allowed for members to express themselves artistically, while also making someone else’s day.
Mincheng Zeng Historian |Lincoln Our Spring into Color Service Project was an event where worked with the Color a Smile organization, and printed or drew pictures to give to someone in need of cheering up. This took place on April 22nd, 2021. We were able to earn up to the maximum amount of 3 hours. Because it’s Spring season, the images consisted of a spring theme, including flowers, and nature. This service project was not only fun and relaxing for members, but also uplifted those in need of a smile!
