hen it comes to acing the fest game, no one does it better than Delhi University’s Hindu College. Its annual cultural fest, Mecca, which was brought to you by Hindustan Times, was themed Dastaan-e-Dilli. Every corner of the college reminded you of the Capital in some way, with decoration that included cut-outs of forts, signboards with names such as Hauz Khas, Mehrauli and others and art that represented the architectural spirit of the city.

wondered why? “I don’t like cigarettes, there are some cigarettes here. Please wait a minute,” Singh told the crowd as he kicked not just stubs but a pack too, off the stage. To the delirious crowd, Singh gave even more reasons to cheer. He climbed a pole and then, he sang some more songs from up there. Hud Hud Dabangg and Udi Udi Jaye were some of the songs that had the crowd dancing. He even invited one of his fans on stage. “I didn’t get a female singer along because I know that Delhi University has a lot of talent,” he said and directed the security to allow one girl to walk up to the stage, “I take the responsibility, please let her come.” And the girl got a chance to sing with the singer.

the organising team ensured all performances go on without a fuss and security was their top priority. “We knew about security issues at other colleges. So, we ensured nothing similar happens here,” said Bhavishya Mehta, prime minister of the Hindu College parliament.

students who participated in choreography, singing competitions, dance shows, cat walks and more. “Plays and Choreo dekh ke josh ajata hai... when you look at these plays you want to do something for society...itne ache se they take up issues,” said Kaveri, a third year DU student. Some of the popular themes were child sexual abuse and gender issues. n
