It is feeling very autumnal
A few weeks later and I am again looking out of the window in France. The summer here is drawing to a close, the days are much shorter, and the temperature has dropped over 10 degrees. The garden is attempting to take over again after our previous efforts to tame it. It has been a summer filled with family and great friends, work and play, wine and food. We were lucky enough to have the younger Willis’s with us for a few weeks and it was great to see Harriett grow and change even in that time. After 30 odd years the memories of Oliver at 10 weeks are a little hazy!
Despite time in France work on the catalogue never stops, once one is done Janet and Kayleigh start on the next. Finding new ranges is always a challenge we relish but it is far from easy these days. The number of trade shows for our industry is greatly reduced meaning much time has to be spent online looking at Instagram and other media to find new and interesting ranges. Much as we love and admire the big brands, we love to find small specialist companies producing with great passion and love. This catalogue contains more new ranges than we have had for some time, and some fantastic ones too!
In case you hadn’t realised I am a somewhat besotted grandpa! It is amazing how all of a sudden I am looking at things that a few months ago I would have just walked past. It was like that when I walked passed the Live Vida stand in Harrogate. The stand displays were amazing and the owner very welcoming but the artwork on display was just amazing. The most fantastic gift for any grandchild or friend’s child. The range has been fully approved by Harriett who was fixated by the hot air balloons and clouds that I put above her changing table. They are really educational too and not just for new borns.
Many of you may remember the range of character teapots sold by Goviers a few years ago, and much collected by many of our customers. Part of the team behind them has now relaunched the range and we were delighted to find it again. The range contains some old favourites as well as some new models, still made in the UK. We had great fun making our selection and look forward to adding more in future.
There are certain brands that I have always admired and have bought myself but that I never though we would ever be able to sell. Alessi is one such iconic brand. At the very pinnacle of stylish design many of the pieces in the range have become classics that have stood the test of time, while new and exciting pieces have been added keeping the range fresh and up to date. We are really delighted to be able to offer this range as the quality, as well as the design, is world class. We have curated a small initial selection, but more will follow. I have a number of pieces myself, many given to me as very much appreciated gifts.
In February we met the charming owners of Pampa Bay at a major European trade show in Frankfurt. The range excited us as did the quality and the story behind the company. It has taken this long for us to get the stock on its way to us through the new UK distributor who will now have supplies in the UK for us. The range is huge so we have an initial selection and more will be added to the web site in due course. The pieces are imaginative, beautifully made and the gilding superb.
The other day I was reminded how many weeks it was until Christmas! Slightly scary. As you know we start looking at our new Christmas range in January and so I am never entirely allowed to get away from it. We have new annual ranges from Wedgwood, Halcyon Days and Georg Jensen as well as our own Goviers range, including our charity baubles. This year we are delighted to add Newbridge Silver to the Christmas selection. It is a great range of interesting pieces which we loved when we saw them, we hope you do too.
We hope you will like the new ranges we have selected as well as the additions to much loved brands like Steiff. It is always great to get feedback on what we have, and suggestions for what you might like to see us find. Burslem, home to the world-famous Moorcroft pottery, is locally known as ‘The Mother’ Town. It is one of six towns that together make up the City of Stoke-on-Trent.
Burslem contains Britain’s last real working industrial district, where people live within walking distance of the numerous pottery factories and as a result much of the nineteenth-century industrial heritage, buildings and character of the town have survived intact.
Designed and decorated in the UK by skilled artists from Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas. Each bauble comes in a Goviers gift box with a gift card.
Designer, Nicola Slaney celebrates Burslem’s history with this design that sees the soot covered smoking bottle kilns of yesteryear intermingled with grey pot bank buildings. History and heritage are still alive in this industrious image of a bygone age.

The Victory Wooden Puzzles brand was first established in the early 1920’s by G.J. Hayter & Co in Bournemouth, England. They were cut by hand from plywood and covered a wide range of subjects. One of their best selling jigsaws of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953 had a patriotic theme. Now these puzzles are made from sustainably sourced wood and ink products combined with modern laser cutting techniques and include whimsical shaped pieces that Victory was so famed for over a hundred years ago.
