Royse City College and Career Academy Leading the Way!

December 2021

Steele's Scoop: With Thanksgiving behind us, we only have two short weeks left of this semester! I hope you enjoyed your break and took time to rest, ate lots of wonderful food and was able to spend time with those that bring joy to you! Colleges are wrapping up their final weeks of class and students should be preparing for final exams. It seems like students just finished midterms! December is the last leg of the race, the strong push to the end. Encourage your student to do well, to prepare, get plenty of rest, and go into their final exam with confidence! RCCCA PTECH students and their Big Brother/Big Sister mentors are going to visit Texas A&M University Commerce Wednesday, December 8th! These 67 dual credit students are Allied Health majors, interested in nursing, EMT, medicine and other careers in health care. They will get to tour the School of Nursing as well as get to talk to professors about what makes a candidate stand out during the application process. Students will also experience campus dining, tour a residence hall, the beautiful campus, and talk to the office of financial aid and scholarships. Texas A&M University Commerce has a strong long standing partnership with Royse City ISD and is committed to making college affordable for our students.

Taylor's Tales: Can you believe we are almost half way through the school year? In November, we focused on our juniors. Hopefully our juniors are thinking about potential careers and seriously searching for universities that they are interested in attending after high school. Remember that in July, juniors will start their college applications! Now it is time to return our attention back to our seniors. This is a very busy time of the year, but seniors really need to focus on scholarships. Many colleges will start closing their scholarship applications windows this month! If you have not done so already, go to your university’s website and in the search bar, type “Freshman Scholarships.” Students should apply for as many scholarships as they can through the university. This is the easiest way to get money for college. So let’s get busy, you will be happy that you did! Seniors, have you ordered your cap and gown for graduation? If not, go online at www.balfour1.com and order your graduation gear this winter. Don’t delay, we want to see you walk across the stage in May! Speaking of graduation, have you completed your FAFSA? Remember that this is a graduation requirement for all senior graduation from the state of Texas in 2022 and beyond. If you are still needing help, please come to see me. Final thoughts for 2021, remember all those things that truly matter and be thankful for even the smallest of them. Don’t forget to spread kindness throughout the holiday season. Even a smile or a simple “Hello” can make a person’s whole day. Remember when we give to others, we fill our own hearts with joy! Happy Holidays.

Angela Rouse I have been teaching science for 19 years and this is my 5th year with RCHS. I feel so lucky to be able to talk about biology everyday - the resilience and the fragility of life is absolutely phenomenal. I love helping my students apply our lessons to real life and celebrating their successes in all areas. Before beginning my career as a teacher, I used to raise baby birds at the San Antonio Zoo. Teaching 2 whooping crane chicks to fly was one of the highlights of my work!

This is my 12th year teaching mathematics and my 2nd year at RCHS! This year is my first to teach dual credit classes and I am blessed to have this opportunity. I have a Masters in Mathematics as well as a Masters in Secondary Education. I received both from Texas A&M Commerce along with my Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. My husband and I are huge Dallas Stars fans! We have three 12 year old rescue dogs and are working on buying property so we can expand our love for animals.

Amanda Chance Hello! This is my first year at RCISD, I spent the last four years as the secretary to Butler Intermediate School in Quinlan ISD. Before that I was the Administrative Assistant & Housing Coordinator for Texas A&M University at Qatar. My husband and I have two sons, ages 13 & 10 who were both born overseas while we were working for Texas A&M. Living there gave me the opportunity to travel to many amazing places! I hope to be able to cross more off my bucket list in the future!

Have questions? Concerns? Need to make an appointment to see Ms. Steele or Ms. Taylor?

I teach dual credit Anatomy & Physiology as well as honors and on-level Physics at RCHS. This is my 39th yr. in teaching. I have taught all sciences grades 7-12 as well as college courses. I enjoy cooking, reading, woodworking and tinkering on my small farm. I have daughters, 1 son and 9 grandchildren. I was on active duty in the Marine Corps from 1973-1977. Fun fact I met my wife when I was on Embassy Duty in 1974 when she worked for the CIA. We have been married now for 45 years!
