January is an exciting time for RCCCA! January is when we begin our recruitment process for the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (PTECH) for RCCCA. Our PTECH program begins with recruiting students in the 8th grade as a cohort during registration for high school. There are 3 associate degree options available under the RCCCA PTECH program. Taylor's Tales: Welcome back! I love the start of a new semester. New teachers, new subjects, new syllabi, new schedules, everything restarts and refreshes. Whether your first semester was ghastly or spectacular, we all are starting our next chapter together. What will your semester look like? Remember that planning out your due dates for all your courses are essential to your success. Using your first days of school, each semester, to plan out your assignments and block off study times for tests and quizzes will set the stage for a successful semester. I want to send a HUGE WELCOME to the 45 new associate students who are starting their first college class this semester. Remember that you are not alone. There are college professors, seasoned associate peers, Mrs. Steele, Mrs. Chance and myself who are always here to assist you on this journey. We are so glad that you have made the decision to start your college experience with RCCCA. Let the Adventure Begin!

Are you College Bound? 12th Grade: Seniors, have you heard back from your colleges? Do you know where you are going in the fall? Please make sure that you email Mrs. Chance at amanda.chance@rcisd.org and let her know what school you have chosen to attend in the fall. Stop by B116 and bring a copy of your acceptance letter to get entered into the COLLEGE GEAR GIVEAWAY and get your picture taken! Have you completed your FAFSA? Many universities have cut off dates for FAFSA so that they can start awarding scholarships. Don’t lose out on free money…apply now. Continue working on your scholarship applications. Keep up with your grades. Universities do require a final transcript and they do look at them! This is the final impression of you that your college will get before you arrive on campus, so put your best foot forward. Let your college know that they are getting one amazing RCHS student.
11th Grade: Are you narrowing down your career choices? Are you narrowing down the universities that you would like to attend? You have 7 months before the first college acceptance windows start to open. You will need to make sure that you have done your research and are prepared to complete your applications Start on your college essays now! The topics are: Essay A: Tell us your story. What unique opportunities or challenges have you experienced throughout your high school career that have shaped who you are today? Essay B: Most students have an identity, an interest, or a talent that defines them in an essential way. Tell us about yourself. Essay C: You’ve got a ticket in your hand – Where will you go? What will you do? What will happen when you get there? Keep up with your grades! Many students do not know this but college acceptances are based on your Junior transcript. Your GPA and class rank for automatic acceptance are all based on where you end this year. This needs to be your very best semester. Remember to take advantage of your college visits too! 10th and 9th Grade: Freshmen and Sophomores should be getting a jump start on career interests. Have you explored all the careers that interest you? Are there other career options related to your interest area? There are so many choices out there, don’t limit yourself. Grades…do you know that the majority of your GPA and class ranking will come from the courses that you take your Freshman and Sophomore years. These 2 years will either make or break your ranking. Take your classes seriously, go to class prepared to learn everyday, and attend tutorials if your grades start to slip. You were given Power Hour to help you with your academic success, use it wisely.
January Student Spotlight Last month we took our PTECH students and their mentors to tour the campus of Texas A&M University at Commerce. Students were able to learn about campus activities/involvement, financial aid opportunities, tour the nursing facility as well as the Library and more! They also got a taste of the “college life” while eating lunch at the dining hall. We were thrilled to be able to take them on this experience and the students truly enjoyed the day!

Hello! I am entering my ninth year of education and graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Communication Studies. I teach professional communications and speech classes while also coaching the school debate team. I have coached to two national championships over the course of my career.
