company sourcing guidelines •
Countries and suppliers have been selected based on their viability to produce the type of products needed and the mitigation of risk as well as the combination of distance, labor costs, and level of the textile industry
• Forced labor - There shall be no use of forced labor, including prison, indentured, bonded, slave or otherwise • Child labor - No person shall be employed under the age of 15 or under the age for completion of compulsory education, whichever is higher • Discrimination - No person shall be subject to any discrimination in the employment process. This includes gender, age, race, political views, social ranking etc. • Harassment Abuse and Violence - Every employee is treated with respect and dignity. Employees are not subject to physical, sexual, psychological or verbal harassment or abuse.
• Fair Treatment - All employees working must be treated fairly. There must be shared respect between the suppliers and the employees. Equality is a key factor for making our company thrive. • Wages and Benefits - Wages must meet with the minimum wage of the country of origin and company’s code of conduct. Employers must provide workers with mandated benefits that are directed by the laws of the country. • Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining -Workers must have freedom to join any organizations of their choice. The Employers must be able to respect the rights of employees to freedom of association and collective bargaining.
• Environment - Suppliers shall maintain written environmental policies and standards and must comply with all applicable environmental laws, our Code and Benchmarks, and agree to be monitored separately for environmental responsibility. • Compliance with Law - Contractors and suppliers must adhere strictly to all laws and regulations where the company does business. • Health and Safety - All factory workers must be provided with safe and healthy workplace guidelines. The working conditions shall be sanitary and thoroughly checked daily.
Internal Monitors Our supply chain is simple. Shimaseiki is our sole manufacturer for our knitted garments. Very little human labor is used to construct our garments. After the WHOLEGARMENT machine constructs a knit piece in one single setting in the Japanese Shimaseiki factory, the pieces are sent to the Shimaseiki Monroe Township, NJ distribution center, where the pieces are packaged for retail. Our retail flagship will be located in SoHo, New York, where the distribution center will ship pieces to. Long term, we hope to accrue enough revenue to buy our own wholegarment machines and produce our knitwear inhouse.
External Monitors External audits are conducted at our suppliers’ factories monthly to ensure they are complying with our Standards. Whereas they conduct factory inspections, assessing risks and identifying root causes of non-compliance. This approach evaluates management commitment to compliance, the effectiveness of the factories’ compliance systems and in turn leads to a more precise evaluation of training needs. In addition to these monthly audits and visits we will be in affiliation with an added external party. We will abide by the standards and guidelines that this certification gives. The Fair Trade moto is audited and designed to make sure that companies are following fair trade practices and the standards that are given. In order to become Fair Trade Certified and receive a label for our products we must purchase from certified companies and farms, submit to numerous supply chain audits and pay Fair Trade premiums and prices. Companies under this certification are transparent to a high degree and traceability in global supply chains. At the end of each quarter certified companies must also pay fees.
country
strategy
Upon close revision and analysis of every country, we have come to the conclusion that Japan is our best option because it has one of the largest manufacturers of WholeGarment technology in the world, it is close in proximity with most of our suppliers, has the lowest wages, and has a fairly stable social and political climate. It was important for our company to choose not only a country that met all of our codes and guidelines but working with suppliers who will abide by our code of conduct in order to maintain a profit and price.
conclusion We are proud to manufacture in Japan and source from Peru, Singapore, and Mongolia. Minimizing the supply chain using WholeGarment manufacturing and sourcing raw materials is our ideal strategy. It allows goods to follow our standard of quality while minimizing risk and maximizing opportunity. Margins are lower than average, lead times are quick, and our inventories are kept to a minimum. With room to grow, we hope to expand our e-commerce and flagship stores through using more WholeGarment manufacturers and yarn suppliers and become a global force in sustainable 3D knit garments.
more farms. less factories.
Minimalism is a tool to rid yourself of life’s excess in favor of focusing on what’s important— so you can find happiness, fulfillment, and freedom.
