Lifestyle editor's letter

november ISSUE 79 A note from our editor...

Hello lovely Lifestyle readers! Hello everybody, I’m writing this in front of the fire, having done some early Christmas internet shopping while gorging myself on tangerines and chocolate orange segments. No, it’s not Christmas yet, but after a very enjoyable evening supping mulled wine and baileys at the John Lewis Christmas press launch recently, I left firmly in the yule tide spirit. Besides in my opinion, bonfire night, which is only a few days away, for me heralds the start of the festivities. It’s what Guy Fawkes would have wanted. Liverpool this November has lots of exciting things going on in and around the centre, from artisan markets aplenty, to live music at the Baltic triangle and not forgetting the Andy Warhol exhibition at the Tate. There are comedy nights at Leaf and the Albert Dock, and a few new vintage clothes shops on Bold Street to browse, and so much more, there really is something for everyone. Isn’t it great to be a part of such a vibrant and diverse city where something new and original is happening almost every day of the week? Where the hardest thing to do is decide which events to go to and which new eaterie to try next. What have you got planned? Lots of love, 4

Lifestyle celebrity interview

CHERYL, singer, X Factor judge and style icon has just released her latest single “I Don’t Care.” Here she talks about her new sound, going make-up free and having the winning act for X Factor.

i dont care, has a very up-beat dancey feel to it.

8

its quite a d y stupid love - are you keen to show different sides with two such different singles?

was it fun for you to record?

I was, the album is pop but there’s obviously

It was. I mean, it’s exactly what it says on the tin. It’s one of those feel free, have fun, don’t really give a shit vibes. Same as the video.

also a couple of R&B-sounding songs. The industry is not like it used to be where it was

Lifestyle celebrity interview all just one body of work and everything sounded similar so I wanted to show there

is shaking things up and working with different people and sounds the key to staying relevant as an artist and also keeping it

just going bac i dont care, you make a pretty clear statement in the lyrics about how happy you are in your life and youre not bothered what people say, is that a message that you want to get

interesting for yourself?

across to your fans?

Yeah, I mean I haven’t cared for a long time really. You can’t live your life worrying about what other people think or say about you. Even if I do hope that people enjoy what I do, I can’t make that the sole focus of my life because that would make you miserable. in the new video, you have a makeup-free appearance, how did that feel? is that something that you wanted to portray to people, and say m happy with the way i

I think keeping it interesting for yourself is important, because if you aren’t interested you are never going to interest your supporters. I think keeping an ear to the ground is one by what is going on around you and going with your gut instinct is more important. personally, have you got any stand-out tracks on the album that are your favourites?

Hard, because as it goes on and I change my mind all the time. I change my mind all the time, like, for a while it was ‘Throw Back’, and then it was, ‘Coming Up For Air’. I don’t know, I’m changing my mind all the time. I really

look you should be too?

Yeah, it’s quite liberating. In one scene I have make-up on from the night before, like when you wake up and you’ve forgotten to take no make-up on. Yeah just carefree – enjoy your life and stop worrying about pointless little things. Stupid things. going back to the album, with the r&b kind of theme running through, do you think that is a d yl soun , for you, of who you are and the music that you have made up to this stage?

It’s the kind of music that I grew up listening I enjoy, but I obviously have been in Girls Aloud for 10 years and pop has been a big part of my career and my life and it’s important. I wanted to include a little bit of everything: me, pop and hopeful messages which I hope comes through.

looking

into

2015,

any

plans for this record?

I hope so, that’s the next thing I need to discus with management and with my team. Maybe after Christmas when the craziness with X Factor dies down, then we will get into that. But I hope so, yes. how does it feel being back on x factor?

This is my fourth series but I have been away for four years. I know what to expect this time around. But I still always get really nervous and anxious for my people, you know, more night on Saturday and Sunday for your act so it’s a bit crazy but yeah, I enjoy it more because I know what to expect. do you think you have the winning act?

I do. 9

Lifestyle comedy genius

MEETING MITCHELL

ll and tials to his name – there’s Mitche For a man with so many creden chell is and now two books – David Mit Webb, Peep Show, his panel shows comedian rviewee. But we do speak to the a thoroughly down to earth inte s feeling writing his latest column – so he’ cum author as he’s in the midst of a little bit serious.

D 12

avid Mitchell is a prolific columnist and now his musings have been put into book form, in Thinking About It Only Makes It Worse, but you won’t catch Mitchell surveying the bottom half of the internet.

“No. Not at all. I really try and stop myself because there are such horrible comments and human nature is such that even if there are nice things as well you sort of need to see nice things at a greater rate than none to come out psychologically even.”

Lifestyle comedy genius As Mitchell says, “somehow a jibe has more rhetorical impact than a compliment.” Mitchell studied history at Cambridge, though admits, “I wasn’t a very good student.” He might have spent more time in the theatre than in lecture halls, but with his latest book focusing on the crises of modernity, it seems his comedy is dictated by the times. “I suppose I tend to see things as part of a broader historical direction of travel, either sort of good or bad. Most of the sort of things I try and write jokes about, whether its sketches or on panel shows, they tend to be about things now that you think are absurd, or dangerous, or laughable, the kind of direction that things are going in…” For this historian though, choosing a time period he’d have preferred to live in isn’t an easy decision. “Well, ‘go to’ is very different from ‘live in!’” he says. “’Live in’ you’ve got to think about comfort and medicine. To ‘visit’, I’d love to visit almost every time period for a quick twenty minutes and then I’d have an antibiotic jab!” For a quick trip, though, he’s spoilt for choice. “I’d go everywhere – Ancient Rome, ancient Greece, medieval times, the Holy Roman Empire, lots of places. But actually to settle, I

think you want somewhere with ready access to antibiotics and not too much fighting in the streets.” Journeys across the ages aside, modern day Mitchell is happily settled in London. “When I left university some friends of mine had a flat above a row of shops near Swiss Cottage roundabout then they noticed a couple of flats in the same road coming up for rent…” They might have been, “very aesthetically displeasing from the outside, like a stereotypically bleak bit of urban 60s concrete building with bins everywhere,” but Mitchell called the area home for years to come. Meeting his wife, Poker star Victoria Coren Mitchell, the comedian made the (relatively short) move to Belize Park. “Because London’s so massive if you don’t know it and haven’t grown up in it you often end up in the neck of the woods you start in.” The comedian will be leaving his comfort zone to take his book on tour this November. But for now, we’ll let him finish off that column. Thinking About It Only Makes It Worse is out on 6 November from Faber & Faber. Book tour information available at www.faber.co.uk.

linda Nolan Interview by Joy Lewis

This year, Jack and the Beanstalk is St Helens Theatre Royal’s Christmas panto. Linda Nolan heads the star-studded cast to play the baddie Mrs Fleshcreep. She is joined by Waterloo Road regular Abby Mavers as Princess Jill, Emmerdale’s Kurtis Stacey as Jack, Coronation Street’s Nick Cochrane as King Charles, Radio City 96.7’s Claire Simmo as The Fairy, the hilarious Liam Mellor as Simple Simon and completing the line-up, St Helens’ resident Dame, Simon Foster as Dame Dotty. you are about to embark on what looks to be yet another smash hit christmas panto, how does it feel?

Great, I have done loads of Pantos. It’s one of the few things that the whole family can come to – it’s good fun and especially in the lead up to Christmas you can sense the excitement in the audience, and see it on the kids faces. what character do you play? will you be singing?

I’m playing a baddie, Mrs Fleshcreep, she’s the giant’s henchwoman. I get to go down the beanstalk and go after Jack. It’s a great part, one I am really going to enjoy. And yes, there will be lots of singing by myself and the rest of the cast. But I can’t tell you which songs, you will have to come and watch the when do you start rehearsals?

The script has just arrived but rehearsals don’t start for weeks yet. I’m currently learning my lines. There is something for everybody in this, jokes for the adults that will go over the kids heads and songs from the latest Disney

who comes will enjoy it. you have been doing pantomime for a few years now - what is it about this form of theatre that keeps you coming back?

I love doing Panto. I have been doing it for Brothers that I have recently been performing. It’s hard work, but well worth it, even if I panto seems to be a mainly british thing, why do you think we love it so much?

The humour is very British, I think we are very traditional in this country, don’t you agree? And we like our traditions, pantomimes have been performed for hundreds of years in this country. No matter the story there is a goodie and a baddie, and good always wins, and the prince always gets his princess. It’s the perfect format, for a happy enjoyable show especially for this time of year.

DAN OSBORNE Interview by Joy Lewis

Dan Osborne, star of TOWIE and Splash will be joining a star studded cast including, Thelma Madine who stars as the Fairy, Brookside’s Suzanne Collins, Grease is the Word’s Alison Crawford and LHK favourite Michael Chapman, for Jack and the Beanstalk, the Epstein’s Christmas Panto this year. I caught up with Dan just before rehearsals began. hi dan, what role do you play in jack and the beanstalk?

I play Jack. But to be honest I don’t know the story. I have heard of it, and I’m sure I probably watched it when I was a kid, but I don’t know what it’s about. ying that you were nervous about your upcoming role in jack and the beanstalk - are rehearsals are underway now? are you feeling better and looking forward to it now?

Yes I’m still feeling quite nervous about the doesn’t help. I’m hoping that the nerves will go away a little bit when rehearsals start and I know what I’m doing. what can the audience expect from the jack and the beanstalk panto? do we get to hear you sing?

Yes I will be singing, I don’t know what songs they are yet though. It’s a big production so 28

the audiences will have a good time when they come to see it. are you still on tour with the dreamboys? - your schedule must be very busy?

Yes I am, and I’m loving it. The tour with Dreamboys ends at the end of November, then we start rehearsals for Jack and the Beanstalk. Plus while this is going on I’m still working on the T.V show TOWIE. So yeah, it will be extra busy for a while. is this and the dreamboys the start of a more theatre acting roles for the future?

I never really thought about doing more theatre work. I grabbed the opportunity to do panto as soon as it came up. I thought it would be really good to have a go at, as past. But it’s back to being on the T.V for me when it’s over.

Lifestyle celebrity interview

Kevin McCloud Kevin McCloud, the opinionated presenter of long running show Grand Designs, has a passion for building that extends beyond bricks and mortar. The design guru has long been interested in renovated buildings, with sustainably at the forefront of his mind. A man with countless favourite buildings, “some that don’t even exist anymore for whatever reason,” McCloud 32

cites some London landmarks at the top of the list. “I recently visited King’s Cross station - not the kind of thing you wanted to do ten years ago – but now that they’ve taken down the front canopies from the 70s and built a new extension to the site, it’s a fabulous building.” It’s not the only station on McCloud’s radar.

Lifestyle celebrity interview “I used to live in Bedfordshire and would commute though St. Pancras station. It was black and hideous and everyone wanted to demolish the station but John Betjeman campaigned to save it. We thought John at it and think ‘how could they ever have wanted to tear this down?’” with buildings, “is all to do with changing tastes.” Then, of course, there’s the question of upkeep; “of whether we decide to look after our buildings. A building that has been polished up beautifully can be an inspiration.” McCloud has been in the presence of many a worn, majestic building, but his Grand Designs days have seen him witness some impressive new builds too. “I’m very fond of the little house designed of 2012 when it was raining just everywhere across the UK, except, for some reason, the Isle of Skye. I fell in love with the rural Isle and it’s impossible to separate the direction of the people. It all rolls into one and it was a lovely, happy experience.” McCloud’s latest project is Grand Designs Live, the four day event where “we’ve got rather amazing buildings, lots of building techniques to have a go at, and amazing food being created in front of an audience.” The event also features a look at the technologies which are driving the future,” and McCloud has instrumented an urban allotment. “We’ve got bee keepers and architects together in the same room!” The Birmingham based show still excites McCloud. “Birmingham was the cradle of the

industrial revolution, and it’s rather cool to think that right now, in Britain, we still have the innovation and design techniques. We’ve got those great resources and people are beginning to turn them into a new kind of manufacturing and a new kind of making.” With Britain’s biggest growth in the past few in manufacturing, McCloud points out that all of the Formula 1 manufacturing capabilities are in England. A man invested in sustainability, Kevin Cloud has grown used to presenting both ends of the spectrum on Grand roofs and solar panels can still exist side by side. “Right now there’s a whole band of architects who are really trying to evolve a style of architecture which incorporates natural materials with the contemporary.” McCloud has a vested interest in low impact building, and while he understands that “We all like bling and the government are going to carry on commissioning those big glass towers”, he sees exciting developments in the future of architecture. “Particularly with architects designing buildings for developing countries, where we are seeing such population growth, It’s important that we develop technologies for building that allow communities to empower themselves and to use available materials, rather than import concrete and glass.” A man who “would like to think there can be greater cross overs between disciplines,” we suspect that under McCloud’s keen eye, a greener breed of bling is more than possible. 33

AUTOMATIC SUNSHINE FOR THE PEOPLE

T

he People’s Balearic Disco is clubbing by The People, for The People and of The People. One nation under a cosmic groove who love to get down just for the funk of it and on The One which they all most definitely and wholeheartedly believe in. The brainchild of dedicated clubbers and righteous, experienced promoters Paula McMahon, Paula Rosie Duffy and, originally, Tom from Harvest Sun, they have been hosting some of the most exquisite dance music events in Liverpool since March 2012. All of them have featured true bona fide DJing legends; the kind who have developed the craft and pushed its boundaries forward, as opposed to the ‘big name’ flavours-of-themonth hired by the commercial superclubs and other such masters of nothing much apart from self-promotion or formulaic pop. As fine an example of this policy as you could ask for was the main attraction at PBD’s most recent event, held at The Baltic Social at the end of September; none other than the original resident DJ of New York City’s legendary Studo 54 and pioneering craftsman of the beat-matching technique, Mr Nicky Siano, himself. Authentic dance music deity to add to a roll call which already included Lindstrom, Ulrich Schnauss, Phil Mison, Ashley Beedle, Chris Barker, Andy Ash, Paul Hutchinson, Mark Forshaw, Marconi and BEGIN (James Holroyd).

Their next soiree will also take place at the Baltic Social on Friday November 7th and spotlights Horse Meat Disco’s Italian born, London based DJ Severino Panzatta and, if his last roof-raising appearance is anything to go by then it promises to be a night of epic proportions. Hosts, the Baltic Social are sharing their New Year’s Eve celebrations this year with the People’s Balearic Disco and hosting a night that is ‘dedicated to the industry of human happiness ... a party for everyone: gays, straights, club kids, bears, beards, fashionistas, naturists, acid house disco heads, drag queens and the fabulous ladies that join them’. It will feature the combined talents of Chris Barber, Sam Baron, Mark Forshaw, plus my old mate, Pooky and is looking like the perfect way to launch yourself into 2015.

ASA MURPHY Interview by Joy Lewis

Asa Murphy is one of the foremost vocal talents in the UK. He has a vibrant repertoire of self-penned material and his swinging interpretations of timeless tunes made famous by Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin and Dean Martin. Standing ovations at Ronnie Scott’s Club, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and at venues all over the world attest to Asa’s beguiling and charismatic voice and presence on stage. He has just released his second album, titled Your Old LP’s, with each track written by himself with the inspiration of his parents old record collection. hi asa, congratulations on your second album “your old lp’s,” you must be very proud and

Yes, I really enjoyed making and creating the album. This is my first self-penned album, and it has truly been a labour of love. excited.

where there any particular thoughts that inspired this album? The album was inspired by my

parents record collection. This in turn had a big influence on my musical writing hence the album title "Your Old LP's".

50

can you tell me a little more about it? how did you write it?

The album was written on acoustic guitar, which I have played since I was 10 years of age. The sound also holds some great brass arrangements which go back to my Swing roots. how did you create the individual tracks? Each track has a story about my life or musical influences and it's nice to hear the finished product. are you touring “your old lp’s” album, and if so where? “Your Old LP’s” is

Lifestyle restaurant review Review by Joy Lewis BILL’S RESTAURANT Liverpool One, 10 Thomas Steers Way, L1 8LW 0151 709 9757 liverpool@bills-email.co.uk

I

think I’ve fallen a little bit in love with Bill’s – the new restaurant in Liverpool One. The décor is just gorgeous, styled in a funky industrial, but comfy way. With its exposed pipes and natural wooden walls and the occasional chesterfield couch and high backed comfy chair. It’s friendly, chic and oh so comfortable and cosy. So if a mix of English café/ American diner with a touch of Mediterranean on the side, dining sounds like your ideal food treat, then look no further than Bill’s. I was invited

recently to review it - I took my best mate – we both love our food and it was time for a decent catch up - perfect, how could I decline? The prices while not sky high, are not cheap either, starters and desserts hover around the £5 mark, while mains range from £8.95 to £14.50. We sampled the crispy squid, and the crab chilli and prawn cakes to start with. Followed by Fish and Chips and the Duck Pie with sweet potato fries. Both courses were delicious and cooked to perfection. However, for me the best part was the dessert. We shared a cup of hot cinnamon doughnuts with warm dipping sauce and the warm pecan pie with malted banana ice-cream – these plates of sweet sugary deliciousness tasted so good I almost licked my plate!

Lifestyle restaurant review

L’OLIVETTO Review by Amanda Moss

S

ituated in a sleepy but fashionable suburb of South Liverpool is L’Olivetto. Under new ownership (and previously Amber) this beautiful boutique restaurant is a gorgeous rendez-vous for ladies who lunch or a catch up for friends over dinner. It has proved so popular since it opened three months ago that you have to book weeks in advance now for a weekend booking. I went along with Simon and baby Ezme on a quietish Monday afternoon to sample their menu. The green decor is fresh yet contemporary and the tables aren’t too close together which is important. The restaurant covers 40 and there are 2 sittings on Saturday nights. The accommodating waitress offered us three menus, a la carte, lunchtime special and Italian tapas; all are available throughout the day. We both had the chicken liver pate served with red onion marmalade and toast to start and additional mozzarella risotto balls for the baby. All were absolutely perfect and couldn’t find any fault with it For mains I had pollo cacciatore, chicken breast in a white wine sauce with mushrooms, onions, peppers, rosemary and spicy tomato sauce served with chunky chips. It was delicious and had just the right kick. Ezme had her favourite, spaghetti carbonara and devoured the whole dish, which was

52

pretty impressive for a 14 month old. Simon had the lamb shank served with gravy on a bed of mashed potato. It was good wholesome food, generous portions and most importantly of all, cooked fresh and served piping hot. Simon was talked into chocolate fudge cake and ice cream for desert, all homemade and it would have been rude not to taste it. In essence L’Olivetto ticks all the boxes. The food was gorgeous, there was plenty of choice to suit everyone’s palette, the service was friendly and flawless, even though the baby made a bit of a mess with the spaghetti it wasn’t frowned upon at all. It wholeheartedly got 10 out of 10 from us and we are going back with friends soon!

Lifestyle author interview

KATHY LETTE With twelve books to her name, Kathy Lette certainly knows her chick lit. In Courting Trouble the Aussie author takes on a slightly grittier topic – complete with her characteristic touch of wit and humour.

y career, where do you find your literary inspiration?

The tax department are a great inspiration, when my tax bills are looming I suddenly feel the need to write again…! No, I really only write because it’s cheaper than therapy! Your latest novel, Courting Trouble, sees a mother and daughter enter into a female centric legal team. 56

do you think this concept works well in real life?

God, yeah, and I wrote it with a TV series in mind: I thought, ‘where is the legal series version of Thelma and Louise?’ Everything is about men - Breaking Bad, True Detective, and Endeavour. While they’re all great shows, they’re all featuring male protagonists. Women make up half the world and our tales don’t get told.

Lifestyle author interview why do you think the book has been such a success?

Odd couple comedies work – and to have the female trisector with grandma, mother, granddaughter, means I have all that juicy, fun witty banter but each book still has a serious theme. I always say that women are each other’s wonder bras – up lifting, supportive and making each other look bigger and better. Most of my female characters are and robust and deeply loyal to one another. but the book focuses on serious topics too?

Courting Trouble deals with the brutal cross examination of women rape trials. This has become a very contentious issue for the last couple of years. Why is it that a victim of a rape is told that she was asking for it? Imagine if that happened in murder trials, would we be looking at ‘consensual death’? It’s just so illogical - the amount of women who bring forced rape prosecutions is miniscule and yet so many rapists get off because the system is geared against women. In my book, a woman is raped and her grandmother is so convinced that she won’t get a fair trail that she takes the law into her own hands, and shoots the rapist in the testicles. This was based on a real story that happened in Melbourne. On the radio and people were saying how terrible this ‘rough justice’ was, but women were ringing in and saying, ‘If it was my granddaughter I would do the same thing.’ It’s interesting, the gulf between your beliefs and your behaviours. You can believe in the law but if it happens to you or someone you love, and you have the chance for revenge, would you take it? That’s the moral dilemma that the reader has to chew over.

courting trouble balances serious issues with humour. why is it so important to have humour within your novels?

I think if you can disarm with charm you’ve a much greater chance of getting your message across. Also I think women use humour as a great coping mechanism. Anthropologists have done research into what makes people laugh all-round the world and found that in every single culture in the world women laugh more often than men, especially in all-female groups. I bet you anything, whether Inuits, Mauritians or British mums meeting at the school run, we are laughing about the same thing – the inadequacies of men! For women it’s a case of laugh o your mascara runs. All the things we still have to fight for – take equal pay. As long as it’s a man’s world I think as an author I’m able to comedically knee cap men as often as possible! how do you reward yourself once a work is finished?

Oh, champagne darling! I was Writer in Residence at the Savoy hotel in 2003 which was better than winning the Booker Prize. I had my own suite for about four months because I just wouldn’t go home! I’m still like their mascot so they say I can come in for champagne whenever I like. I’ve got a comedic coven of good girlfriends – Rub Wax, Maureen Lipman, Jo Brand if she’s in town. We meet regularly and just laugh until our lips fall off.

Courting Trouble by Kathy Lette, published by Bantam press, is out now.

PHILLIP’S

DIY... Hello Lifestyle Readers! As I mentioned last month, I put the touches to my development work at Crain in Shropshire but I I’d you a bit more round about the property. Its renovation has had particular sentimental value to me for the fact that, before I found fame on Brother back in 2000, I lived and worked there for a number of years. The property served as both a home to me and as the site of my old construction company and its workshop. The development took the best part of a year but I am made up by the end result. Never one to sit back on my laurels for too I have yet another project on the horizon! For years I have been to build my own dream home and I have found the perfect location in the North West. It is like a nine month project but I’m very rd to it! Winter is to approach quicker than many of us would like, and for people who spend days outside like myself, it’s important to hold of the and known as equipment. Mercedes

AMG-GT S

M

ercedes will be kicking off 2015 by taking on the 911 Turbo, F-Type R coupe and Vantage V8 S with its gorgeous 2 seater sports 503 bhp coupe AMG-GT S. It has everything you would expect from an authentic Mercedes-AMG sports car – from the characteristic styling, thoroughbred motorsport technology to the optimum weight distribution. The drive system tailored consistently to driving dynamics perfectly complements this set-up. The centrepiece of the Mercedes-AMG GT, the new 4.0-litre V8 biturbo, responds instantly with extreme power right from low revs and delivers outstanding performance.

64

It has been created with broad shoulders and narrow tail light graphics. The licence plate bracket is located in the lower part of the bumper, allowing the Mercedes star to be placed prominently on the smooth-surfaced boot lid. Added to which is an extendable rear aerofoil, which is concealed from view

while the car is at a standstill. Radically low, sporty proportions create a unique sense of spaciousness. What’s most exciting is the figures, such as 3.8 seconds from zero to 62 mph and a top speed of 193 mph, combined with the outstanding driving dynamics will undoubtedly translate into extremely fast laps on the racetrack. The price? A mere £91,000. Time to put the lotto on.

DACIA – New Duster

I

4x4 ever – prices starting at £9,950 – yes that’s the actual price it’s not a typo. The original Duster has been around for a few years now, and is much loved my James May himself, and yes he might be a bit of a pub quiz bloke, he certainly knows his cars, so I’m likely to take his word on this one. And at this price you can’t go too far wrong anyway. So the Duster isn’t a great beauty, but not many 4x4’s are anyway. It’s more utilitarian in design and it wears its bargain price tag like a badge of honour, and I can’t help but admire that. The cabin is spacious and so is the boot,

aguar revealed their latest sports saloon last month in London in a blaze of publicity. They have described it as a true driver’s car and Bosses at the Coventry the very heart of the UK's manufacturing to get the high-tech ‘Ingenium’ engine - a family of ultra-low-emission, fourcylinder petrol and diesel engines from the U.K Engine Manufacturing Centre. The XE is sleek and sporty but sticks to the Jaguar understated and conservative design. The car is a result of around £2bn worth of investment in a new factory on Land Rover’s home turf in

big enough for a twin pram and a Tesco shop. No it’s not got special parking sensors on it – but that’s what wing mirrors are for. This new version has a slightly bigger boot, blue tooth technology and more expensive versions come with swanky alloy wheels. But even if still thousands cheaper than its closed rival the Nissan Qashqai. Solihull, W Mids. The car's bodyshell is mostly aluminium which is constructed here, and the plant will also assemble the XE. A new engine plant in Wolverhampton is also set engines. Promising an all round very British sports car. The new Jaguar XE goes on sale early next year with prices starting from £27,000.

Hello

S

o winter is just around the corner and I am already preparing to hibernate.

Fortunately the weather has been kind to us up to now so I am looking forward to toasting marshmallows on the fire and living in my onesie until the spring. At the time of writing this Liverpool Fashion Week has just finished and it was a huge success, our best one yet. After 5 years of running this international fashion event and I am extremely proud of how well respected it has become around the country. What I love about it though is the friendships forged backstage. Did you see our listing in Drapers? Now, however,it is time to rest and relax until the new year when my event planning takes over my calendar again. I have four big events which is all very exciting. Next on the agenda is the Bierkeller Liverpool Lifestyle Awards which is nothing more than a heartbeat away really. Winners will be announced at our star studded gala dinner in March but we have months of
