Hello March! Welcome Spring! And I have a spring in my step as the days get longer (don’t forget to put your clocks forward) . March is all about shedding those winter layers and pampering yourself in the lead up to the event that the world is watching - The Grand National at the end of the month . Time is flying by and whilst your resolutions may have dropped off your radar I

would urge you to push yourself to reach new goals. You may know that I am working away in Cyprus where I am launching the new edition over here. It’s been hard work, not only being away from my kids, but also setting up a new business. On a rare afternoon off, I went for a walk along the rocky coastline of Cavo Greko, a beauty spot I have been to many, many times. On this occasion I decided to go on a different route and down an unknown nature trail. Of course I got completely lost, found myself on a treacherous rocky path. Not knowing where to turn I pushed myself through brambles and rocks until I realised the only way back to the path was

to climb up the rocks which was about 25 feet high. Terrified of heights but even more worried of being stranded in the middle of nowhere with spiders and snakes, I scrambled up to the top. It’s amazing what you can achieve when you challenge yourself. Life is a wonderful adventure and your lifestyle is whatever you make it. . F

or the first time in my life I feel like I’m living a fairytale after the most romantic Valentines' Day I have encountered thanks to my very own Prince Charming who organised a wonderful evening at my favourite place, Langs 6.30 in Ainsdale. From romance to partying - a fabulous night was had by all at the Liner Hotel where I was delighted to host the 11th annual Lifestyle Awards once again amongst many worthy winners and brilliantly organised by Amanda “I’m looking more fabulous by the day“ Moss – and it was bigger and better than ever before! Had the best proud mum moment watching my daughter Melodie dancing for Adam Brown Dance Company in his Reputation show! It never ceases to amaze me what confidence Adam brings not only to Melodie but to all the dancers and makes them believe in themselves with some breath taking performances. Melodie’s dedication to dance with

10

bus and train journeys, 3 – and sometimes 5 times a week, shows how committed she is – and how Adam makes them shine like the stars they are. Speaking of performers shining I am absolutely thrilled to be Directing LHK Youth Productions “Grease” which will be held at the Unity Theatre – on March 28th! I have worked with most of them for the past 2 years – and to date – this I feel is their strongest performance yet! They are the perfect Pink Ladies and T- Birds and with the help of Michael Jones with Choreography and Alan Moore as Musical Director – I can’t wait for people to see how talented they really are! If you love the film Grease then you won’t want to miss this and you’ll be blown away – few tickets still available www. unitytheatreliverpool.co.uk or calling 0844 873 2888. I mentioned at the beginning of the year that I was expecting some changes within my radio career and sadly I have now done my last

Saturday afternoon show for Greatest Hits Radio, and I would like to thank each and every person who listened and made it possible for me to handover my best listening figures to date. Radio is evolving and I totally understand the changes no matter how upsetting it may be. However – I will hopefully be doing some cover shifts at the close of the football season – and you never know where I might geg in next – watch this space!!! I am so very lucky having started my job working for Whiston & St Helens Hospitals Charity and I can certainly see (and hope) that this I where my current yellow brick road is leading me!!

Liverpool Restaurant Lauds female staff for International Women’s Day

I

n support of International Women’s Day 2020 (IWD) Wheeler’s of St. James’s, Liverpool, is calling on more women to consider a career in hospitality. The restaurant already has a number of female members of staff on its books, but also wants others to join them Agnese Berzina, Food & Beverage Host said: “The hospitality sector offers so many varied career paths, opportunities for progression and

responsibility. For example, you could start off as a pot washer earning minimum wage but develop and grow to become a general manager, potentially earning a six-figure salary. “Someone who reaches this level is, in essence, a business owner who has to be multi-faceted and excel in all areas such as people skills to finances. That’s what this industry can offer and is why we need more women to get involved.”

RICK ASTLEY ‘GREATEST HITS TOUR 2020’ comes to Liverpool this April. HIS CAREER-SPANNING COMPILATION ‘THE BEST OF ME’ came out the end of last year.

R

ick Astley ‘Greatest Hits Tour 2020’ is an eleven-date arena tour which will see Rick perform to a combined audience of more than 80,000 people, and includes a London show at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall. Rick Astley has proven to be a consistently huge draw in the live arena. He’s sold over 100,000 tickets to his UK headline shows since releasing his charttopping album ‘50’ in 2016. At the age of 21, Rick Astley emerged from the shadows of the Stock, Aitken and Waterman production house to

become one of the biggest stars on the planet. His era-defining classic ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ topped charts the world over and catapulted him on a journey that would encompass 8 consecutive UK Top 10 hits and 40 million sales. And after stepping aside to focus on his family, he shot back to #1 almost 30 years later with his hit Platinum-selling album ‘50’.

Rick celebrates his extraordinary story with the release of ‘The Best of Me’. It charts that initial run of hits (‘Whenever You Need Somebody’, ‘Together Forever’ and many more) alongside recent fan favourites such as ‘Keep Singing’, ‘Angels On My Side’ and ‘Beautiful Life’. It also digs into some deep cuts too, such as ‘Lights Out’ from 2010.

Yes – I mean NO Lately I’ve been working on how to get the people I work with to become better influencers. I’m asking them to learn how to disagree better ... if you can work out how to do this then there are real opportunities for you. We hear a lot about markets ... the money market, the job market, the internal market ... everything seems to be a market. But why don’t people talk about the ‘market place of persuasion’ ... it’s real, it exists. Those who can persuade have a genuine value. That’s why sales people get bonuses for making sales ... they have persuaded someone to buy. And often the persuader isn’t the one with a string of

qualifications, they have a skill that isn’t represented by an A Level or a Degree. We all tend to hold views that we don’t give up easily ... but sometimes well-presented evidence and well-presented arguments can change our mind. In the field of psychology there’s a thing called Cognitive Dissonance which describes the mental discomfort experienced by someone who holds two contradictory beliefs ... the discomfort is triggered by a situation in which a person’s belief clashes with new evidence. In short it means people are generally uncomfortable when they are shown to be wrong. Some people are

not just uncomfortable they are upset, even furious. So the first principle in learning how to disagree better is to go after the argument, not the person. This means that you don’t make the disagreement personal ... using a football analogy it would be “play the ball, not the man”. If you can become an influencer by using balanced arguments, listening to others views and adapting your views when faced with new information then you will thrive in the market place of persuasion. C E LE B R ITY Lifestyle talks to..

Arabella Weir the country - you can’t beat hearing the laughter of a live audience.

DID YOU EVER THINK THE FAST SHOW WOULD BE SO POPULAR AS IT IS? WOULD YOU EVER HAVE A REUNION We ARE doing a reunion, very soon, for UKTV Gold, we’re very excited about it, we’ll all be there. No, we had no idea it’d be so popular - we hoped we’d get an audience, of course, but you just never know with anything. It was quite a weird show so we were lucky people ‘got’ all our bizarre characters! WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE COMEDY MOMENT THAT YOU WERE INVOLVED IN The live Fast Show we took on tour, we had some fantastic times and often, I’m afraid, laughed a great deal on stage in the middle of doing our sketches. The audience loved it though. It was tiring being on the road and my kids were little then so that was hard but we all loved performing the show. We enjoyed doing so much for live audiences all over

24

DO YOU EVER GET TIRED OF HEARING “DOES MY BUM LOOK BIG IN THIS? No! Why would I, that was the catchphrase that brought me to the public’s attention, I love it and I’m really grateful it was so popular. Also, in particular, that it spoke to so many women. I’m really proud of it! WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOUR SHOW, DOES MY MUM LOOM BIG IN THIS? In general it’s a show about mothers and mothering but specifically it’s about my incredibly dysfunctional upbringing at the hands of my not-copingat-all mother, stories that are unbelievable, crazy, funny and shocking and then in the second half it’s about me as a mum and how perfect I am as a mum in every possible way - HAH! The second half is stories of the mistakes I’ve made as a mum, oh yes, and there’s

some dancing to Drake! My kids really hate that bit! AS A MUM WHAT’S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST LESSON THAT YOUR MUM TAUGHT YOU If you see the show you’ll know that the answer is NOTHING - the only thing being my mother’s child taught me was how NOT to mother! WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING THING YOU HAVE FOUND BEING A MUM I’ve been a single mum for more than half of my kids’ lives so that has been hard but I think I did a good job, I certainly tried very hard. The most challenging thing is letting them grow and be independent of me - if I had my way they’d live with me forever, have no friends and never go out. Only half joking.

DO YOU OBSESS OVER YOUR WEIGHT Not any more, I did which is where ‘does my bum look big in this?’ Came from but after I had kids and got older and experienced the loss of loved ones and a divorce I realise there are other things which are much more important. Anyway, if it mattered that much to me then I’d be thin! HOW DO YOU RELAX ON TOUR A hot bath, a glass of good read wine and some truly crap American reality true-crime shows - they are my guilty pleasure! I like chatting to friends on the phone too - it’s very important to me to keep in touch with my pals and hear their voices. I’ll call my kids if they’ll talk to me!

WRITING OR PERFORMING, WHICH DO YOU PREFER? Hmm, if I’m honest I’d have to say performing because you get laughs, immediacy, a relationship with your audience or if it’s TV then you get to play off your colleagues. Writing is very satisfying in the end but while you’re doing it it’s a lonely business and can feel a bit like homework! IF YOU HADN’T FOLLOWED THE CAREER YOU DID, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD BE Ooh, I don’t know... maybe a teacher. I love kids, I love helping people and I love

bossing people around perfect. Or maybe a police officer, I’d have loved that and I’m pretty sure I’d have been a brilliant detective. DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING ON YOUR BUCKET LIST THAT YOU HAVE A BURNING DESIRE TO DO? My own solo show - and I now I’m doing it! That was genuinely always on my bucket list so I’m pretty pleased that I’ve done it. Otherwise, I just want to be healthy and stay alive long enough to see my kids happily settled and in jobs they live - not a very exciting bucket list, eh?!

MARC H 2020

Manish’s ZODIAC PREDICTIONS

ARIES (21 MARCH–19 APRIL) This month will see expansion through philosophy, travel or education. It promotes the flow in your life so that things are easier than they have been in the past. You will find ways to express your unique identity in the outer world, preferably while promoting social justice. TAURUS (20 APRIL – 20 MAY) You will be preoccupied in issues ranging from the mundane study of the budget to important discussions with partners over the need for greater intimacy. You may be organising business issues related to an inheritance or your own legacy. You will back out of unviable professional commitments. GEMINI (21 MAY – 20 JUNE) This is a propitious time for you to begin new things, especially if they involve travel or communications. Give special attention to investments and other shared resources. Ease up on the energy output. Your physical body may feel sluggish and your primary focus should be on internal healing.

26

CANCER (21 JUNE – 22 JULY) You will feel the need to mature and to solidify your identity, in a new or additional field of work. Changes have come into your life through relationships with those who have minds of their own and they will teach you to set

boundaries and claim your independence in a relationship. LEO (23 JULY – 22 AUGUST) You might encounter a physical or emotional blockage that demands healing before you move forward. If you do not recognise your feelings, a situation may drop in from the sky that will remind you of circumstances of the past. You will be prone to overreact. VIRGO (23 AUGUST – 22 SEPTEMBER) A new vision for your life will take its place as the month moves forward, but be patient. It will be your responsibility to maintain the opportunities you’ve been given. You will be adding new spirit to an ongoing relationship. Many possibilities for reaching people will develop. LIBRA (23 SEPTEMBER – 22 OCTOBER) This should be an exciting month; something long in the making will show signs of fruition. There are still some loose ends that need to be tied up, though. You are setting and achieving goals and you must also learn compassion to manifest your best results. SCORPIO (23 OCTOBER – 21 NOVEMBER) Positivity, affirmations, being kind to yourself, celebrating your talents and successes – all of this will create fertile soil for your dreams to take root and grow. You will need to let go of any desire to have power over others and focus

on developing your inner strength. SAGITTARIUS (22 NOVEMBER -21 DECEMBER) A pervading sense of ambivalence is creeping into your life just when you think it’s safe. You’ve been putting too much emphasis on some form of security: a relationship, job or lifestyle. It is holding you back as you’re overlooking an opportunity right in front of your eyes. CAPRICORN (22 DECEMBER – 19 JANUARY) You should be inspired to achieve greater spiritual understanding by clearing your mind of past thoughts. Being true to yourself will bring about the happiness you seek. Progress will be made and stability is just around the corner! Take this inspirational energy and put it to good use. AQUARIUS (20 JANUARY – 18 FEBRUARY) Concentrate on your strengths and abilities and let go of what you cannot complete or what you don’t possess. Start creating very specific financial plans and goals to get yourself there. It will help get your life on track and put more trust in your own thoughts and ideas. PISCES (19 FEBRUARY – 20 MARCH) You are in the midst of warmth, brightness, and beauty. Keep reaching for the skies, to stay connected with nature and grasp the full power of your capacity and set yourselves free from all restrictions. Work on selfcare, self-assessment and the choices you need to make in life.

Y I D ly th n o M ’ s p li il h P ig a Cr Welc ome Lifes tyle Read ers.. . I hope you’re all doing well and the weather hasn’t been causing you too much trouble! It’s been another busy month for me with plenty of projects in the pipeline. As you know, I work as an ambassador for the innovative paint spraying and tool manufacturer Wagner and this month I was able to visit its headquarters in Germany to take part in a unique course. I was joined by a number of high-profile people from the trade industry to learn more about Wagner’s contractor range of paint sprayers. They’re often used by industry experts on large-scale projects, so it was great to find out the best ways to use them straight from the products’ creators. It was also a great opportunity to check out some of the exciting things Wagner is currently working on. The company is always looking for ways to enhance its offering and they’ve got plenty of exciting projects lined up for me this year which I’m looking forward to being involved with. Watch this space! I’ve also spent some time this month filming content for leading fireplace brand Bespoke Fireplaces. The company provide all kinds of fireplaces to homes across the UK and specialises in marble and electric fires. The award-winning firm is also based on Merseyside, so it’s great to see

Drilling ceramic tiles to fit a bathroom mirror.

another business local to me doing well. The filming was done by Champions Media, an arm of my management company Champions (UK) plc. So, a big thank you to them for helping with the project.

Drilling ceramic tiles can be tricky as the front surface of the ceramic tile is glazed, often causing your masonry drill bit to slide and skid once it starts to rotate. Nonetheless, there is a simple but effective solution to get around this problem.

Filming took place in my workshop and, in the video, I provide a step-by-step guide to building a wooden framed artificial chimney breast. The end result was great and it will be used in the Dreambuild.

Measure the brackets on the rear of your mirror. Transfer your measurements onto the tiles in the area you need the mirror fixed to. Stick a plaster over your pencil mark and then re-mark on the plaster, using a sprit level to make sure your two marks are level. Now you are ready to drill.

Keep an eye out on YouTube for the final video! With spring almost upon us it’s a great time to look at ways of giving your bathroom a spruce up. If you have a bathroom mirror this makes it slightly trickier so this month’s DIY tip will help you do just that. Until next month, All the best

Craig

Use a masonry drill bit or a drill bit designed for drilling ceramic tiles. Start to drill your tile – it’s very important not to use a hammer action drill, as the hammer action rotates and vibrates which will break the tile, so just use a standard drill driver. Once you’ve drilled to your required depth, apply your raw plug and screw each screw leaving them to stand proud of the tile by about five millimetres. This will allow your mirror’s brackets to hook onto the two tiles and hang in position. Then, for additional security, use a silicon gun to apply a small amount of silicon to the rear side of the bottom and the two sides of the mirror. Very gently, prise the bottom of the mirror a small amount away from the wall very gently, allowing you to get the silicon nozzle behind the mirror. Press very gently and leave it to dry.
