The Prince is the story of the all-too brief life and career of Celtic goalkeeping legend Johnny Thomson. It traces Johnny’s roots from the coal mines of his native Fife to the pinnacle of success as the last line of defence for one of the most famous clubs in world football. Johnny signed for Celtic in 1926 at the age of 17 and went on to make close to 200 appearances for the club, winning two Scottish Cup winner’s medals before his untimely death in 1931, the result of a tragic accident whilst playing for the club he came to love. In those four short years he established a reputation for himself as The Prince of Goalkeepers and franked a legacy that endures to this day. What was it about Johnny that inspired such fame? What was his life like as he swapped the quiet village of Cardenden for the Empire’s second city, Glasgow? And who were the people who were closest to him and understood his thoughts and dreams? Set against the background of Scotland at the end of the roaring 20s, a time of class division and social inequality, The Prince answers these questions and celebrates the legend on the 80th anniversary of Johnny Thomson’s passing.

One of the most successful musicals of all time! This endearing tale of little orphan Annie is back, giving a whole new generation the chance to experience this enchanting musical about never giving up hope. Annie is a gutsy 11 year old orphan who, after being left on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage, run by the cruel and crooked Miss Hannigan, is determined to find her real parents. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils the evil plans of dastardly Miss Hannigan and her devious brother, Rooster. Winner of 9 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and also boasting one of Broadway’s most memorable scores, including It’s a Hard-Knock Life, Easy Street, N.Y.C. and the everoptimistic Tomorrow, Annie is a delightful theatrical experience for the entire family. It’s no wonder that this heart-warming show has become a contemporary classic.

This rags to riches – barrow-boy to baron – story, revised by Stephen Fry from the original 1937 book, tells of the trials and tribulations when sudden wealth and breeding are forced upon Bill, a Cockney from Lambeth, by his new-found relatives. Leave your troubles behind as you enter the doors of the stately home Bill has fallen heir to, meeting his mildly eccentric family he didn’t know he had, who try, though unsuccessfully, to change him. Full of fun and laughter, Me and My Girl features many well-known songs such as Leaning on a Lamppost, The Sun Has Got His Hat On and, of course, The Lambeth Walk. 12

A NEW ADVENTURES PRODUCTION One of the most popular dance productions ever staged in the UK, Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! returns to the King’s Theatre to celebrate its 20th anniversary for one week only. This delicious theatrical feast has family-sized helpings of Matthew Bourne’s trademark wit, pathos and magical fantasy. Nutcracker! follows Clara’s bittersweet journey from a hilariously bleak Christmas Eve at Dr Dross’ Orphanage, through a shimmering, ice-skating winter wonderland to the scrumptious candy kingdom of Sweetieland. Tchaikovsky’s glorious score and Anthony Ward’s unforgettable sets and costumes combine with sizzling choreography to create a fresh and charmingly irreverent interpretation of the traditional favourite. Hailed by The Observer as ‘the undisputed king of dance theatre’, Matthew Bourne’s company New Adventures has produced some of the most successful dance productions of the last two decades including Swan Lake, Edward Scissorhands and this year’s world premier, Lord of the Flies.
