In the age before science and magic parted company, Doctor John Dee was the ultimate Renaissance Man: astrologer, alchemist, mathematician and spy. The inspiration for both Marlowe’s Faust and Shakespeare’s Prospero, Dee studied the Heavens, he spoke with Archangels and he paid a bitter personal price. Dr Dee follows the success of MIF’s Monkey: Journey to the West, stars Damon Albarn and uses exciting musical forces and inventive direction to create a spectacular theatrical experience. Commissioned by Manchester International Festival, London 2012 Festival and ENO. Produced by Manchester International Festival and ENO. With thanks to the BBC Philharmonic for their support and collaboration.

It’s the summer of 1969 and Tubby, an overweight insurance man, and Enid, a buttoned up secretary, are back on the stage of the Free Trade Hall forty years after they first stood there as children, singing their hearts out with the Hallé orchestra. It’s the anniversary of the Manchester School Children’s Choir recording of Nymphs and Shepherds. The action switches between the Manchester of Tubby’s boyhood, and the Golden Eggs and Berni Inns of Manchester ‘69, as the memory of that day he sang propels Tubby to make one last stab at happiness. Commissioned by MIF Creative. Produced by Manchester International Festival. With support from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

STAGE ENTERTAINMENT PRESENT

From producers Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment (Hairspray, High School Musical), the smash hit musical Sister Act is coming to the Manchester Opera House! The show, which played to over a million people at the London Palladium during its West End run and is currently a huge hit on Broadway, will star Coronation Street’s Denise Black as Mother Superior and Brookside and The Royal favourite Michael Starke as Monsignor O’Hara. When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put into protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be found - a convent! Disguised as a nun she quickly finds fans amongst her fellow ‘sisters’ but makes the wrong impression on the convent’s strict Mother Superior. But when she turns her attention to the church’s off-key choir, helping the nuns to find their true voices and breathing new life into the rundown neighbourhood, her cover could be blown for good. With the gang giving chase, is time running out for Deloris? Or have they underestimated the power of her new found Sisterhood? Based on the movie of the same name, this fabulous, familyfriendly, feel-good show is packed with songs inspired by Motown, funk, soul and disco. Now, as the habit hits the road, you too can see why audiences fell in love with the funniest and funkiest nun on the run, and her heavenly sequinned sisters! www.SisterActTheMusical.com
