Brassed Off is the stage play of the multi-award winning film of the same name which follows the heart-tugging fortunes of a colliery brass band. It’s 1994 and the lifeblood of Grimley’s community is threatened when the pit looks set for closure. The loss of 1200 jobs also signifies the end for the colliery’s long-standing and close-knit brass band. Conductor Danny is determined that the band will gain national recognition and with arrival of flugelhorn-playing Gloria it seems his goals aren’t quite so far-fetched. But as loyalties are questioned and political and personal pressures erupt, can the band ever reach the National Championships and realise Danny’s dreams of hearing Grimley play at the Albert Hall? Produced by Stage Productions, the company behind previous shows at The Regent including We Will Rock You, Oliver!, Rent and The King & I, Brassed Off will see a live brass band play at every performance. The amateur rights for Brassed Off are provided by Samuel French Ltd, London. 13

Following the resounding success of their BAFTA-nominated Armstrong & Miller Show, Ben Miller (Moving Wallpaper) and Alexander Armstrong (Mutual Friends) will be hitting the road in Autumn 2010 and touring a brand new live show. With their usual mix of the beautifully observed and the utterly barmy, Ben and Xander will be performing a parade of characters from their extensive dressingup box and wig-store. Don’t miss the street-talking WWII chav pilots, the filthy Brabbins and Fyffe, Jilted Jim - dumped at the altar but still on his honeymoon, Terry Devlin - the royal correspondent who really KNOWS the royals, Dennis Lincoln-Park - the accident-prone culture buff, the Frank Dad, and many more.

Britain’s national contemporary dance company returns to Stoke-on-Trent with its winning formula of imaginative, ambitious and high-quality dance. This autumn, Rambert is delighted to present an exciting new work, Awakenings, the first dance interpretation of Oliver Sacks’ book of the same name, made famous by the 1990 Hollywood film. Awakenings is a beautiful piece of dance full of high emotion, energy and drama. Two further dance works, including Christopher Bruce’s gorgeously uplifting and award-winning Hush, and Itzik Galili’s sensational samba-inspired A Linha Curva, will also be performed.

In 2010, Glyndebourne on Tour will present three spectacular productions, offering a variety of musical and theatrical styles to appeal to audiences of all ages. Glyndebourne, renowned for its staging of Mozart operas, presents a new production of Mozart’s masterpiece Don Giovanni, conducted by Glyndebourne on Tour’s new musical director Jakub Hru ˚s ˘a. Rossini’s comedy La Cenerentola, vividly brought to life in Sir Peter Hall’s acclaimed production, is a re-telling of Perrault’s classic fairy tale, Cinderella. The tour is completed by Monteverdi’s last work L’incoronazione di Poppea, set in a world of sensuality where passionate, forbidden love is victorious over goodness and virtue. 25
