With Somerset Maugham’s characteristically shrewd understanding of human nature, The Circle is an elegant and entertaining social satire that explores the conflict between romance and responsibility. Dorset, 1921, Lady Kitty (Susan Hampshire) abandons her husband and young son to run away with politician Lord Porteous. Thirty years later Kitty returns from exile in Italy for a family reunion and though worn down by age she still clings to her glamorous past. After discovering her daughter-in-law Elizabeth is tempted to embark on a similar affair, events turn full circle, leaving Kitty to decide whether or not to encourage the elopement. Susan Hampshire’s acclaimed theatre credits include The King and I, Relative Values and Lady in the Van.

PRIOR TO THE WEST END Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel is a timeless and powerful musical fable of love, passion and redemption. The story of two star-crossed lovers - Billy Bigelow, a smooth-talking carny man and Julie Jordan, a millworker - Carousel travels from the rocky shores of Maine to Heaven itself. Its remarkable tale is set to a ravishing score - the composer Rodgers’ personal favorite - that includes The Carousel Waltz, If I Loved You, June is Bustin’ Out All Over, and a song that has its own unique connection to the British public, You’ll Never Walk Alone. In this brand new production by award winning director, Lindsay Posner, Lesley Garrett, CBE, Britain’s most popular soprano, who recently lifted the roof at the London Palladium as the Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music plays the pivotal role of Nettie. Lesley is joined by Jeremiah James, an established musical actor who is best known as a member of the internationally renowned recording group, Teatro, as Billy Bigelow and by Alexandra Silber, who was most recently at the Savoy Theatre in London in the award winning production of Fiddler on the Roof, as Julie Jordan.

Over three million people have lived to tell the tale of The Woman in Black, one of the most exciting, gripping and successful theatre events ever staged. A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a ‘Woman in Black’, engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds. The borders between make believe and reality begin to blur and the flesh begins to creep. Unanimously acclaimed by the critics, Stephen Mallatratt’s adaptation of Susan Hill’s best selling novel, combines the power and intensity of live theatre with a cinematic quality inspired by the world of film noir. It is a formula that provides audiences with an evening of unremitting drama as they are transported into a terrifying and ghostly world. 12

Sun 23 Nov 7.30pm

A spectacular evening of music making by the best of Milton Keynes’ young musicians. The concert features performances from Stephen Swartz’s Children of Eden, Secondary School Choirs, a 75-piece symphony orchestra, professional violinist Celia Waterhouse, dancers from a local performing arts school and much, much more.

Conductor Stuart Dunlop Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs is a glowing

Gilberto Zorio Du Creux de l’enfer au creux du Vesuvio, 2005. Le Creux de l’enfer Centre d’Art Contemporain, Thiers, France

Gilberto Zorio 18 October 2008 - 1 February 2009 This will be the first solo exhibition in the UK by Gilberto Zorio, one of the leading artists of the Italian Arte Povera movement founded in the 1960s. In the face of surging Pop Art, he returned to the use of elemental materials, such as water, stone, granite, iron and copper, and explored the spiritual and cosmic place of the individual in the universe. Zorio assumes the role of an alchemist, physically transforming materials through chemical and mechanical processes. For the exhibition at Milton Keynes Gallery he will be making new work in the gallery spaces.
