Sheridan’s THE RIVALS sees the much loved Penelope Keith reunited with Peter Bowles in their first stage roles together. Directed by Sir Peter Hall, Keith’s Mrs Malaprop is a comic tour de force while Bowles shines as Sir Anthony Absolute. Full of wit, romance and intrigue, the play is an absolute classic. Other drama highlights include THE COUNTRY GIRL, starring Martin Shaw and Jenny Seagrove. The play was made into an Oscar winning film in the 50s and was revived on Broadway to great acclaim in 2008. I look forward to welcoming you this autumn.

Directed by Rufus Norris Frank Elgin, once a great theatre star, is down on his luck, but when he is offered a major role by hotshot director Bernie Dodd, he has the chance to make a major comeback. Will Frank regain his confidence and save his turbulent career? Will he be supported in his quest for a second chance by his long-suffering wife? Martin Shaw and Jenny Seagrove are reunited in the roles played by Morgan Freeman and Frances McDormand on Broadway in 2008, and by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly in the Oscar-winning film. Martin Shaw’s last UK theatre tour was the record-breaking run of A Man for All Seasons. Perhaps best known for his starring roles in George Gently and the BAFTA award-winning series Judge John Deed, he will be joined by his co-star from that hugely popular series, Jenny Seagrove. Seagrove is fresh from critical acclaim in this year’s West End production of A Daughter’s A Daughter.

Adapted from the first book of Flora Thompson’s trilogy. A heart-warming portrayal of 19th-century country life. Following the success of the award-winning BBC television series, Bill Kenwright presents a fresh new revival of Keith Dewhurst’s original stage adaptation of the much-loved Lark Rise to Candleford. Based on the first book of Flora Thompson’s trilogy of semi-autobiographical novels, this heartwarming play was first performed at London’s National Theatre in 1978 and was nominated for two Olivier awards. Seen through the eyes of young Laura Timms, the play follows a day in the life and relationships of the farm workers, craftsmen and gentry of the fictional hamlet of Lark Rise at the end of the nineteenth century. It is the first day of harvest, and the villagers celebrate with the simple pleasures of music, song and dance, creating a moving and evocative picture of a forgotten England. 10 10

one of the best loved comedies of all time ‘Keith delivers a masterclass in comic acting with depth’ Chichester Observer on Entertaining Angels

‘Peter Bowles, a performance of considerable dignity and delicacy‘

HHHH The Times on The Browning Version

Penelope Keith and Peter Bowles star in

The Rivals By

Richard Brinsley Sheridan Directed by

Peter Hall

It’s 1775 and the fashionable world descends on Bath, to take the waters, show off their finery, enjoy the gossip and pursue romance. Amongst them are some of the most extraordinary comic characters to grace the stage: the verbally misguided Mrs Malaprop, her absurdly romantic niece, Lydia Languish, the blinkered Sir Anthony Absolute, the blustering Irishman Sir Lucius O’Trigger and the bumpkin Bob Acres. Throughout the course of a single day these suitors and schemers and their servants indulge in an assortment of hilariously extravagant intrigues before everyone is paired off to their own satisfaction. Much-loved actress Penelope Keith plays Mrs Malaprop, (Entertaining Angels, The Importance of Being Earnest, Relatively Speaking and The Good Life on TV). Peter Bowles is one of Britain’s most distinguished actors (Separate Tables, The Misanthrope, The Browning Version, Swansong and The Bounder and The Irish RM for TV). Penelope Keith and Peter Bowles also starred together in one of the most watched British sitcoms of all time, To The Manor Born with viewing figures of many millions. The Rivals will see them sparring together on stage for the first time. 12

Awakenings Tour 2011

the enchanting and romantic story of The Sleeping

Right at the very heart of British dance, Rambert Dance Company returns to its partner theatre with a brand new programme of imaginative, ambitious and high quality dance, featuring an exciting and beautiful new work, Awakenings, a piece full of emotion, energy and drama.

Beauty and Swan Lake, probably the world’s bestknown ballet, set to Tchaikovsky’s sublime score performed by a live orchestra. Victor SmirnovGolovanov’s flawless productions are a stunning demonstration of the precision, artistry and sheer grace for which Moscow City Ballet is renowned throughout the world. wed 26 - sat 29 jan

Two further works, including Siobhan Davies’ gorgeously frenetic and award-winning The Art of Touch, will also be performed by the Company’s 22 world-class dancers, with incredible live music from the Rambert Orchestra.

BAFTA nominated, award winning comedian Rob Brydon will be joined by friends from the world of comedy and music for a ONE NIGHT ONLY unforgettable experience.
