ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY

book summary. David Sedaris’s Me Talk Pretty One Day (2000) is a New York Times best-selling collection of humorous, autobiographical essays. Sedaris has mastered the art of self-deprecating humor. The 28 essays are strung together by personal, life moments but divided into two parts. With a few exceptions, the essays focus on the early part of Sedaris’ life in the first half and the more recent years living in France for the second half. Part 1 is compiled with memories of his family and others such as teachers. An emphasis is put on the relationship with his father, which isnt always smooth. There are plenty of awkward situations, unwelcome ones, and areas where David expresses not fitting in. Part 2 consists of more memories of family and teachers but in a new place - France. And it’s shared with his longtime partner.

author info. Born in 1956, Sedaris has been making audiences fall out of their seats for years. With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today. David Sedaris is the author of Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice, as well as collections of personal essays, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and When You Are Engulfed in Flames, each of which became a bestseller. There are a total of seven million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages. He was the editor of Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules: An Anthology of Outstanding Stories. Sedaris’s pieces appear regularly in The New Yorker and have twice been included in The Best American Essays.

David Raymond Sedaris is an American humorist, comedian, author, and radio contributor who has been nominated for a Grammy Award during his successful writing career.

Just Say Fuck It.

“One of the most shameless, acid, vaulting wits on planet Earth.”

David Sedaris’ non fiction novel is a New York Times best-selling collection of humorous, autobiographical essays. He has mastered the art of self-deprecating humor as each page turns. Each essay, whether it be in part one or in the deux, will have you wondering about his odd life, but amused and wanting to read until the last page.

David Sedaris

By 2008 his books had sold seven million copies and he is still hard at work on an up and coming book that will be just as hilarious as the last.

In the first half, the essays focus on the early part of Sedaris’ life, including many stories about his family. In the second half, readers get to see the middle aged years of Sedaris living in France with his boyfriend.
