From the desk of ACA President Bryan Vining Greetings from the great state of Wyoming. I’m hoping everyone had a great summer out promoting the wonderful breed of Corriedales. This year’s National Show and Sale had some unbelievable sale averages which tells me that interest in Corriedale sheep is on the rise around the country. Congratulations to Dew Drop Farms on having the Supreme Champion Ram over all breeds with their yearling ram, and the Wolf Brothers for the Champion Ewe with a beautiful fall ewe. Once again we had 100% participation in the futurity ewe lamb program. Thank you to everyone who contributes to the youth of our organization through the futurity program. Bryan Vining and Congratulations to the very deserving Breeder of the Year, Bruce Hoffman grandson, Todd Owen Hamlton. and Family, and Guy Green Award to Van Cruit Family. Your new queen this year is Kaitlyn Stillion, who also received the Outstanding Junior Shepherd Award. I’m sure she’ll do a great job representing our breed. Congratulations to Kayce Vining for winning the Selden Whitmore Youth Achievement Award and also to these two young ladies for winning the scholarships that the association offers. Keep on posting your fair and show results on Facebook, it’s a great way to keep up with everyone around the country and promote the versatility of our breed. Good luck to everyone with your fall and spring lambing and as always, safe travels to and from all of the shows.

Ohio Club awards ewes to 4-H member The Ohio Corriedale Club is promoting the advantages of the Corriedale breed to 4-H and FFA members by offering two yearling ewes to a member to start their breeding sheep projects. The Kin Brothers Corriedales of Upper Sandusky and the Wayne Kemler Family of Van Wert donated the two Corriedale ewes awarded this year. Youth members wrote an essay stating their experience and why they would like to start a Corriedale flock. The winner of the essay contest for the Corriedale ewes for this year is Mary Elizabeth Sherman of Minford in Scioto County. Mary is the daughter of Rich and Christy Sherman and is in the Green Clovers 4-H Club. She is 10 years old and has previous experience in 4-H with livestock projects. Mary exhibited the ewes at the Scioto County Fair and at the Ohio State Fair Junior and Open Class Breeding Sheep Shows this summer. She will care for them through the lambing season, hopefully including the

offspring in her 4-H projects in the following years. Mary stated in her essay that she won second place in the Junior Sheep Skillathon last year and hopes to compete this year. She is eager to start a breeding sheep project and would like to make wool products from her Corriedale fleeces.

2016 All-American Show largest one yet By Deb Hopkins, Show Chairman The 23rd Annual All-American Junior Show was recently held at the MSU Livestock Pavilion in East Lansing, MI from July 1-3. It was the largest All-American yet! The 2016 All-American had 372 exhibitors from 25 states actually exhibiting 1667 head of the over 1900 head entered. The MSU facility was filled to the brim and it was a long and great weekend of showing sheep! All the detailed show results and pictures are up at: www.allamericanjuniorshow.com for your viewing purposes. The All-American show is a sheep show where the major focus is on the exhibitors and their families. Even though many awards are given out over the course of the weekend the show is designed for junior exhibitors and their families. The exhibitors participated in many events besides the breeding sheep and market lambs shows including the 3-on-3 basketball tournament, pizza party, skillathon, judging contest, pie and ice cream social, lamb camp, wool show, Saturday night BBQ and fun houses, promotional contests, full course breakfasts, individual and team showmanship competitions and scholarship programs. Plans are under way for next year’s show, which will be taking place at the Alliant Energy Center, Madison, WI from June 30 thru July 2, 2017. The welcome mat and local organization is being put forth by a group of interested, supportive Wisconsin sheep

breeders. The Schambow Family is spear heading organizational efforts and needs a lot of Wisconsin volunteers. An organizational meeting was held at this year’s All-American Show but more help will be needed moving forward. Keep an eye out on the All-American Junior Show website at: www.allamericanjuniorshow.com during the upcoming months on news for next year’s show. If anyone is interested in helping out with the show in any way or has any ideas please feel free to contact Deb Hopkins (401)647-4676, email: cdcdorset@cox.net. It takes a lot of willing people to assist and all are welcome. Look forward to seeing everyone next year in Wisconsin! A complete listing of volunteers and businesses who worked and supported this event can be found on the American Corriedale website.

It reads, “Golden Ram Trophy; Corriedales; First Two-Tooth Ram; Men’s Breeding Sheep; San Angelo Fat Stock Show; Presented by Southwestern Sheep & Goat Raiser; H M Phillips Editor; Winners; A permanent Award for HC Noelke & Son; San Angelo-Sheffield; 1942; 1947;1948.” Their grandfather was President of the San Angelo Fat Stock Show & Rodeo and general superintendent in 1955, American Corriedale Association President in 19471948, and won the Guthrie Award for Outstanding Breeder of Corriedales in 1955.
