Dear Friends,
Let’s face it: The world can be a pretty dark place. The heart-wrenching loss of loved ones, the devastating effects of incurable disease, the hopelessness of addiction, the desperation of mental illness are all part of the reality we face each day. But here’s the thing: There is hope in Christ! There is joy everlasting when we place our trust and our lives in the hands of our Maker. The gift of faith moves our perspective from temporal to eternal. With faith in Christ, the darkness can turn to light; our timeline moves from today to tomorrow. As AHG volunteers, we are committed to bring the light of Christ to the darkness. We do this with hopeful expectation that the girls and families we serve will grow in their love for their Savior while impacting their families, their community, and their country. Our purpose is not temporal but eternal. It is important and vital as the generation we are serving will be writing the scroll of history tomorrow. It has been an interesting period for all of us in AHG. Over the past four years, our program themes have included Chrysalis (creating and forming), to Chosen (understanding our identity in Christ), to Live Free (walking in the freedom that is inherent in understanding our identity), and to Shine (walking in the light of Christ and sharing that light with others). To “shine” is to move from darkness to light, from hopelessness to promise. May your 2022-23 Program Year be filled with opportunities for your Troop to “shine”. May each girl reflect the promise and love that is found in Jesus, and may their influence impact their generation for the future. It truly is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. The hope that an abiding faith in Christ provides is worthy of our investment. May God bless you and keep you,
Patti Garibay Founder & Executive Director American Heritage Girls, Inc.
AHG 2022-2023 PROGRAM YEAR THEME & PATCH PROGRAM
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16, NIV)
SHINE
(verb): /shīn/
to send out or reflect light
Just as God created the stars to SHINE in the sky, He has created His light to SHINE within you. The light of His Good News—the salvation He brings! He reminds you throughout Scripture that even on the darkest night, you can reflect His Light. The light of Christ reminds you “YOU ARE LOVED” and brightly SHINES for others around you to experience His love too. As you join other Christ-followers, together you can brightly SHINE the light of Christ, piercing the dark. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the word “SHINE” means sending out or reflecting light. As a Christ-follower, the Lord has placed His Light within us to SHINE. Our relationship with Christ allows us to SHINE His love, kindness, forgiveness, and His many attributes for others to see—reflecting His glory! How do you spark the Light within to light up your world in the darkness? How do you keep your little light shining for the world to see? AHG desires this Program Year to inspire girls and volunteers alike to search for the Light within and SHINE brightly for the world to see through faith, service, and fun!
For more information and requirements, visit AHG’s online resource library. Patches can be purchased at store.americanheritagegirls.org.

WHY PLAN?
In order to effectively fulfill the mission of American Heritage Girls, planning the Troop’s Program Year is essential. This planner is designed to assist the Troop Ministry Team in the planning process through four manageable steps. A well-planned, year-round program yields numerous benefits such as: • The Troop’s plans for the year are intentional, strategic, and mission-minded. • Increased recruitment and retention of Girl and Adult Members. • Develop and maintain unity among the Troop Ministry Team. • Advanced planning avoids missed opportunities. • Fundraising goals can be set and achieved. • Advanced notice for training as well as preparation for events and High Adventure activities. • Timely and positive communication between the Troop Board and Charter Organization. • Balanced programming through the six Program Emphases can be effectively implemented. Communication and organization are important skills for good leadership. Planning the Program Year well will create a more productive and exciting year of faith, service, and fun!
A printed version of this planning resource is available in the AHGstore. A digital version is available on ISSUU.com/AmericanHeritageGirls.

PLAN YOUR YEAR
Meet with the Troop Ministry Team and girls in leadership positions during the summer months to pray, plan, and vision-cast for a fruitful year.
1
Review and select AHG National Dates on the inside front cover of this planner in which your Troop will be participating.
2
List and review other events and activities, including Area and Regional events. Add these to the monthly calendar.
3
Plan your Troop meeting and activity goals for each month.
4
Refer to the planning sheets throughout each month in the planner. Use these to plan individual meetings based on monthly goals.
7

FEEDBACK
Have you checked in with your First Aid and CPR certified adults? Troops are required to have one First Aid and CPR certified Adult Member per every twelve girls. Be sure everyone’s certifications are up-to-date!
Fundraising can be a financial game-changer for Troops. Consider the financial cost of your year and the events you have planned. Choose your fundraisers wisely! AHG’s Preferred Fundraising Vendors would love to chat with you.
Girl feedback is critical when planning out your year. Ask your girls about their interests and explore your options!

INCORPORATING
6
PROGRAM EMPHASES
As a Troop leader, your role is to proactively make sure girls are experiencing a Christ-centered, forward-focusing, balanced program.
YOUR CALL TO ACTION
The AHG Program has much to offer girls in your Troop, but AHG stresses that Troops always start with FAITH, SERVICE, and FUN! These words are not just a tagline but foundational to your Troop’s success year after year. Keep Christ at the center of all you do, follow God’s great commandment to love others, and engage the girls through their involvement in making a difference in their community and world! Once your Troop finds a rhythm of faith, service, and fun, there are tools provided to incorporate the six Program Emphases: Troop experiences
Level Awards
Girl Handbooks
Badges
Patch Programs
The six Program Emphases teamed with the AHG Oath and Creed provide the cornerstone of values that personify the AHG experience.

SEPTEMBER 17
New for 2022, AHG brings Troops fresh resources to foster unity among all Troops around one theme for NDS 2022—Serving Persons Impacted by Disabilities. This is a topic near and dear to AHG Executive Director and Founder Patti Garibay’s heart. Growing up with a father with a medical condition which resulted in a physical disability taught Patti at a young age to serve with compassion and to see the value in every human life. AHG Troops will be gifted with easily implementable resources such as videos, Unit activities, and serving suggestions to incorporate into their first Troop meetings of the year. Think “easy button”!

EVERY VOLUNTEER is the desire to know
MAKING A DIFFERENCE. they are
Let someone in your Troop know how much you appreciate them with the AHG Adult Recognition program! Learn more about National Awards and Troop Level Awards by searching “Adult Recognition” in AHGresource, AHG’s online resource library.
PATCH PROGRAMS American Heritage Girls’ (AHG) Patch Programs provide excellent tools for Troops and Trailblazers to utilize within one of the six Program Emphases so that girls can explore, learn, and have fun. Most Patch Programs have been developed by Program Alliances and AHG Staff with inspiration from AHG Adult and Girl Members. 142

Leadership is intentionally putting others first to influence and impact the world for Christ. AHG’s G.R.I.T with Grace Girl Leadership curriculum is designed to equip Tenderheart through Patriot girls to lead in a way that keeps them rooted in Christ while bearing the fruits of the Holy Spirit. G.R.I.T with Grace is not a classroom-based learning plan—it’s fun, interactive, age-appropriate and designed just for girls! The included Planning Guide provides volunteers with a “plug and play” curriculum presented from a Biblical worldview that is adaptable for a Multi-Troop, Troop, or Trailblazer event. Volunteers can customize the experience by selecting topics that best meets their Troop’s specific needs.
“
I am so excited about this curriculum. We have been trying to figure out how to encourage our girls to step up into leadership roles. There is also the new leadership requirement for Level Awards. This curriculum is going to be an answer to both and its fun! There are games, breakout sessions, crafts, themed snack ideas...even supply lists so I don't even have to think about it. It's all ready to go and our Troop can do little spotlights or maybe even a leadership retreat! Our girls are going to love this! Christi Cameron

ADULT
RECRUITMENT & RETENTION An American Heritage Girls Troop is only as strong as the volunteers who lead the girls. A healthy, vibrant Troop relies on steadfast men and women of God who have a heart to serve His girls. It can be difficult to start your intentional recruiting process, therefore AHG has developed an updated resource to identify your Troop’s needs, God’s call, and the giftings of those in your community. You can find the resource, Adult Recruitment Made Easy, through AHG’s online resource library.
