A license or certification may be required in a technical occupation for a city, state, or region. Appropriate training, supervised work experience, and technically accurate resources are key components of a comprehensive approach to licensing and certification preparation. • Licenses are mandatory credentials granted by federal, state, or local government agencies to individuals who have been trained and tested in a trade or technical field that is regulated by a government authority. It often takes several years of supervised work experience, academic study, and extensive testing to obtain a license. Licenses require periodic renewal through continuing education or professional development. • Certifications are voluntary credentials granted by business/industry and trade associations in recognition of individuals who have demonstrated the level of knowledge and skill required in a profession, occupation, or role. The learning materials developed by the Society evolved into technical publications that addressed the training needs of workers during a period of early industrial growth, two world wars, and a major advancement in technology. In 1980, the employees of the American Technical Society purchased the company and reorganized it as American Technical Publishers, Inc. Today, we are a 100% employeeowned company, and we have full control of our mission and our destiny. We routinely work with subject-matter experts to develop technical training material. Authors, contributors, and technical reviewers of ATP products possess diverse knowledge, skills, and field experience. However, the common bond among them is a profound commitment to sharing knowledge with instructors and learners in the field.
