NATURAL LIVING HEALTH FAIR Fresh Thyme will host a natural living health fair at 4 p.m. There will be vendors, local businesses and organizations to give information, education and helpful tools.

JANUARY 2 AMERICAN LEGION BINGO

American Legion Post 37, 225 Main St., Ames, will offer Bingo at 6:30 p.m. Play sheets of three, six or nine squares are available for $6, $12, and $18. Proceeds go to support American Legion-sponsored community programs.

STORY COUNTY RADIO CLUB The Story County Amateur Radio Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. in North Conference Room A on the first floor of Mary Greeley Medical Center. Parking is available near the MGMC northeast entrance. The meeting is free and open to the public.

KORRUPTED PROMOTIONS Korrupted Promotions will present a full lineup of performers at DG’s Tap House starting at 9:30 p.m. for only $10. Tickets can be bought in advance through Midwestix or at the door for the same price.

AMERICAN LEGION DINNER The American Legion’s monthly steak dinner will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Enjoy an 8-ounce New York strip steak dinner or a 6-ounce sirloin steak dinner with your choice of baked potato or french fries, homemade soup and salad bar. Add shrimp and make it a combo for just a little more. Fried shrimp and ham steak dinners also will be available. Proceeds benefit American Legion-sponsored programs.

NFL + MUSIC VIDEO NIGHT Party Town Lounge will host a Sunday Fun Day with NFL football and music video night. There will be different drive and pizza specials all night.

Sixth Street Salvage will host a winter wellness make and take for the whole family at 6:30 p.m. Families can learn about wellness products with essential oils. Information will be shared during these adult-only sessions about the benefits of essential oils. $15 covers the products created during the event.

The Story County Extension Council and staff, at the Story County Fair on July 22, celebrated the centennial celebration since first opening its

MLK birthday celebration on Jan. 21 The Martin Luther King Day Planning Committee invites all in Ames/Story County to honor and celebrate King’s birthday on Monday, Jan. 21. The theme for this year’s celebration is Equality, Justice and Unity. The event will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Ames Middle School, 3915 Mortensen Road. MLK birthday cake will be served from 6 to 6:30 p.m. during a social time, with music provided by Ames High School Jazz Band I. A program will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will feature a short video, poems and readings on King’s civil rights accomplishments and life. Vanessa Baker-Latimer will serve as master of ceremonies. The keynote speaker will be Renee Hardman, the first black to

Northcrest expansion groundbreaking Goundbreaking for Northcrest Community’s expansion project was held Nov. 28. Northcrest has been serving older adults since 1965 and is excited be able to provide services to even more people with this expansion. Included in the project will be 48 new independent living apartments complete with two bedrooms, two baths, gas fireplaces, individual four-season rooms, underground parking and exercise room on the fourth floor, 32 assisted living apartments and new health center. In addition, renovation of the main building will include administrative offices and provide for an expanded wellness center. A new multi-purpose room, private dining room and casual dining venue will provide additional options for residents, their families and guests. Project completion is expected in 2020.
