Nevada FFA fruit sales total nearly $29,000 Nevada High School FFA members sold, mixed and delivered more than $28,870 in fruit, cheese, sausage and snacks sold to community customers. “To reach this level is awesome, big congrats to our students
on an outstanding sales accomplishment” said Kevin Cooper, Nevada FFA advisor. The chapter also purchased bulk fruit and re-packaged into specialized mixed boxes for variety preferences.
Customers could choose from 34 different fruit packages, 22 cheese and meats and 18 different candy items. The chapter unloaded the product with the JD 480 heavy-duty all-terrain forklift that Van Wall Equipment donated to
the chapter in the fall of 2013. Top sellers included Samantha and Alexis Black first with $2,005 in sales. Aubrey Gibson was second in sales with $1,363, and Ryanne Barker was third with $1,350. All students were
provided with a lesson in basic product introduction and how to close a sale. The wholesale product invoices totaled $18,858, therefore providing the FFA chapter with a net profit of $10,012. \ Money from this fun-

The American Heart Association is seeking applicants for its annual Go Red Heart Health Makeover Challenge in Story County. As part of the annual Story County Go Red For Women Dinner, 12 women will be selected to participate in the Go Red Challenge presented by Ames Racquet and Fitness, Iowa Heart Center and Mary Greeley Medical Center
cardiologist with Iowa Heart Center. “The goal of the Challenge is to give these 12 women tools and resources to make heart-healthy behaviors a part of their everyday lives, and to inspire other women to take their heart health into their own hands.” As the No. 1 killer of women — claiming the lives of one in three women — cardiovascular diseases force us to consider that a woman we know and love may be affected at any age. In fact, today heart disease claims more lives than all forms of cancer combined. However, 80 percent of cardiac events may be prevented by understanding your family health history, knowing your numbers and making simple lifestyle changes. For more than a decade, Go Red For Women has been fighting heart disease in women by funding women-focused re-
search studies, educating women about their risk, working with medical professionals to provide the most up-to-date, evidence-based treatment guidelines and advocating for women’s heart health. More than 625,000 lives have been saved and nearly 300 fewer women are dying each day. For a Go Red Challenge application, visit www.heart.org/ storycountychallenge. heart.org/DesMoines.
