ACTORS to audition for ‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’ The Ames Community Theater (ACTORS) has announced audition dates for its next show “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” a Tony Awardwinning comedy by Christopher Durang. Auditions will be at 7 p.m. on Jan. 28 and 29 at ACTORS, 120 Abraham Drive, Ames. No preparation is required. Casting will be largely based on scene reading from the script with other actors, but other factors, like age, general look and the ensemble will be considered. Greg Leaven-

good will direct. Rehearsal times can vary, based on cast confl icts, but usually run four or five nights a week, from 7 to 10 p.m., weather permitting. Please come with a list of your time confl icts for February and March. Six actors are needed. One man, late 20s; one man, 50s; one woman, early 20s; two women, 20s; and one woman, any age past 20. There is a script at Ames Public Library. “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike”

revolves around the odd relationships of three middle-ages siblings. Vanya, Sonia, and Masha share a weekend of raucousness, rivalry, and regret. This is a sweet, witty play with a pop culture attitude. Winter is a great time to do a show: Nothing shakes off the cabin fever quite so well. ACTORS invites one and all to audition. Ames area shoppers helped Noon Kiwanis raise $4,200 to benefit Ames area youth. The Kiwanis giftwrap station was open for 16 days in December, including Christmas Eve for lastminute shoppers. Club

members and spouses were on duty for 95 percent of the twohour wrapping shifts. Club member Anne Schmitt worked 16 two-hour shifts; Kris Meinhard 13 shifts; and Lynell Dougherty 12 shifts. Greater Iowa Credit Union supported the gift-wrap project by funding the space rent for the wrapping sta-

tion. Funds earned from the gift-wrap project help support Ames area programs such as Youth and Shelter Services, Raising Readers, Boys and Girls Club, Teen Maze, Story Theater Company, Ames Girls Softball Associatdoin, MICA, Food at First and Miracle League Playground.
