St. Cecilia school lego league teams shine at state competition St. Cecilia School had enough interested students and volunteer coaches to form two FIRST Lego League teams for the 2018-2019 season: The Galactic Labradoodles and Super Peeps 2.0. The teams met twice a week all fall to prepare for a regional competition in Webster City in December. The 2018-2019 theme was Into Orbit, so teams addressed problems that humans face during long-duration space travel. The Galactic Labradoodles designed an omnidirectional virtual reality exercise device to help motivate astronauts to keep fit. The Super Peeps 2.0 designed a Hug Shirt designed to help astronauts maintain their close relationships with friends and family by sending and receiving hugs over long distances. The Galactic Labradoodles achieved high scores in all three aspects of the competition and were invited to compete at the State FIRST Lego League AllAround Competition in January. At the
same regionals meet, the Super Peeps 2.0 won recognition for their Robot Design and were nominated to compete in a separate competition for the Global Innovation Award for their Hug Shirt project. At the state competition in January, the Galactic Labradoodles embraced the challenge of competing against older, more experienced students. They
demonstrated great camaraderie, had fun and stretched themselves as individuals. The Super Peeps 2.0 were one of nineteen teams from around Iowa to present their project to a panel of three judges at the Global Innovation Awards Competition. The Hug Shirt was recognized as one of the top three projects at state. Now the Super
Peeps 2.0 are eligible to apply to be one of the 20 teams worldwide to attend and present their project to the Global Innovation Summit in July 2019. The team will know by April if they have been selected to continue in the worldwide competition. Congratulations to both St. Cecilia School Lego League teams on their success this year!
