Auditions at ACTORS for ‘Monty Python’s Spamalot’ Ames Community Theater announces auditions for “Monty Python’s Spamalot.” Auditions will be at Ames Public Library on at 1 and 3 p.m. on March 29, and at 6:30 p.m. on March 30. A perusal script of the show is available for review at the library. Individuals auditioning for the show should bring a prepared song, two minutes in length, from a musical. There will not be a piano available for auditions at the library. Please bring a karaoke track of the selected piece; a Bluetooth speaker will be available for use. Karaoke tracks may be found on websites like iTunes and YouTube. Any musical song may be used for the audition. Examples of songs that are available are “Defying Gravity,” “Be Our Guest,” “Under The Sea” and “Be Prepared.”

In addition to singing, individuals will be asked to read selected scenes with others during the audition. There also will be a dance component to the audition, so please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Please contact marcjenn95@gmail.com if you have conflicts with the audition times. The cast consists of six principal male roles, with an age range from 20 to 60 years old. Vocal ranges for males are a bass/baritone voice for King Arthur and the remaining fi ve principal male roles are all in the baritone/tenor vocal range. There is one principal female role. Lady of the Lake has a soprano voice range. In addition to the principal roles, “Spamalot” has a large number of supporting and chorus roles for both men and women. The total cast size is ex-

pected to between 22 to 25 individuals. “Spamalot” will have a nineperformance run. Show dates are June 11, 12, 13, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 and 28. All performances will be at the ACTORS Theater, 120 Abraham Drive, in Ames. Rehearsals will begin April 2 and will be held weekly on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. Lovingly ripped off from the classic fi lm comedy “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” “Spamalot” retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. The show features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people. The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and received a total of 14 Tony nominations.

Gilbert FFA Chapter attends Annual FFA Skate Night Gilbert FFA members attended the annual FFA Skate Night at the ISU Ice Arena this past week. Members watched the ISU hockey team play against Oklahoma and then had the opportunity to skate on the ice after the game was over. Cyclone Country AKTION Club supports One Heart Equestrian Therapy Kris Lager, cofounder and executive director of One Heart Equestrian Therapy, gave an informative slide presentation about horse therapy at a recent Cyclone Country AKTION Club (CCAC) meeting. The club has donated $100 in support of this unique program. One Heart is an organization providing equine-assisted activities and therapeutic services to people with disabili-

ties. It uses certified instructors, therapists, many volunteers, and specially-selected horses to help people with physical, mental, and psychological impairment learn about horses and, through the process, acquire self-confidence and achievement. Lager has a bachelor’s degree in animal science and a master’s degree in veterinary physiology as well as familiarity with horses since

childhood. Her daughter Lucy is a member of the CCAC and has been an important part of the development of this program. Several club members have had the opportunity to benefit from this experience. One Heart is a member of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH) and is located at 2710 West 190th St., north of Ada Hayden Park in Ames.

Team Neutrino wins regional, advances to world championships Story County 4-H Team Neutrino competed at the Greater Kansas City Regional FIRST Robotics Competition Feb. 28 to March 1 in Lee’s Summit, Mo. After 72 qualification matches, the team was ranked third and was the captain of the third seed alliance. With its two alliance partners, Team Neutrino advanced to the finals,

where it upset the first seed alliance to win the regional and advance to the world championships in Detroit in April. This is the fi rst time in the team’s nine seasons they have placed first at a regional competition. Team Neutrino also won the Engineering Inspiration award, which “celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and

appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community.” Winning Engineering Inspiration also awards the team with a spot at the World Championships as well as a $5,000 sponsorship from NASA to pay for their registration fee. The team also will compete at the Iowa Regional competition in Cedar Falls March 26-28. Their season started on

Jan. 4 with team members working up to 26 hours a week outside of school hours. Team Neutrino requires abundant resources to create a functional robot. The team has 24 sponsors and partners: CIT, John Deere, Danfoss, Bayer Fund, Alliant Energy Foundation, Interstate All Battery Center, Sanguine Lore Inc., Renewable Energy Group, City of Ames Elec-

2020 Robert D. Blue Scholarship application available online State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald wants to remind Iowans to apply for the 2020 Robert D. Blue Scholarship at rdblue.org. Graduates of any Iowa high school who plan to attend a college or university in

the state of Iowa for the 2020-21 school year are eligible to apply. Since its creation in 1949 by Gov. Robert D. Blue, the scholarship has helped hundreds of Iowa students fulfi ll their higher education dreams. Last year, eight outstanding students were awarded a $1,000 scholarship. All recipients went to

various colleges and universities across the state. Robert D. Blue Scholarship applications are only accepted online through May 10 at rdblue.org. Ames Middle School Builders Club members at Iowa Law Library The Ames Middle School Builders Club members and Youth and Shelter Services visited the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines on Jan. 20. The purpose of the trip was to participate in the Iowa Alliance of Coalitions for Change, Substance Abuse Day. The students were accompanied by Lori McCasland, Builders Club School Advisor, and Ryan Doyle, of Youth and Shelter Services. They participated and learned how substance abuse affects Iowa youth. Another important lessen for the students was a practical demonstration of communicating their concerns for change with legislative

leaders. They also toured the unique Iowa Law Library. It was established by the Federal Government in 1828 and transferred to the State of Iowa in 1846. The Library provides library services to state government. It was an interesting and informative student educational trip for all.
