Teacher of the Year Sullivan speaks to Golden K Kiwanis Aileen Sullivan, who was named the 2018 Iowa Teacher of The Year, was the guest speaker at a recent Ames Golden K meeting. Aileen, who is a chemistry teacher at Ames High School, recounted the events leading up to her selection to represent Iowa during the past year. The time Aileen spent away from her teaching duties at Ames High to fulfi ll her commitments as Iowa’s representative totaled 14 weeks. This included many statewide speaking engagements and a White House reception honoring Teachers of The Year from each U.S. state and territory. Aileen led the meeting attendees through a number of word exercises/quizzes that demonstrated her approach to teaching and interacting with her students. At the conclusion of her presentation, it was the consensus of Golden K members that the Ames High faculty and students are extremely fortunate to have Aileen on their staff.
