The program will begin at 2:15 p.m. Vanessa Burnett, a 4-H alum, will be the emcee. This year, the program will honor individuals who are or were Story County Extension Council members. The first Extension Council was formed in 1955 with 16 elected members, one repre-

The council is in partnership with Iowa State University, entrusted to bring research-based information to the citizens of Story County. Among its many responsibilities are hiring and evaluating staff; establishing and maintaining a budget; identifying the needs of public and private enterprises, families, and communities in the county; and overseeing the planning,
preparation, marketing, delivery, and assessment of the Story County Extension educational program. We encourage you to join the celebration. Printed programs will be available. They will list the council members, both past and present. Other parts of the program include 4-H’er, Lindsay Donnelly, who will share what excites her about her 4-H experience; the introduction of the 2018 4-H Hall of Fame honoree; as well as announcing the 4-H Alum of the Year. Also, those who entered the
4-H’ers in Action Contest will be recognized. This year, the Story County 4-H Foundation board will recognize both scholarships and grant recipients. There will be time to browse through the Story County 4-H History display in the meeting room next to Christy 4-H Hall. You will find clippings and pictures featuring people you have known. Student created display out of discarded material Nevada High School agriculture education student and FFA member Avery Mather “created” a display out of discarded materials. “If you look around, you can find some good materials without spending a dime” stated Mather. While working at Nevada High School on a tractor Mather found a pile of plywood taken from a gymnasium remodeling project. In order to place the piece vertically, Mather found some old athletic pipe stand
bases formerly used for track field events. Now all she needed to purchase was some pipe clamps to hold the plywood to the stand bases. Mather assembled the display for the National Angus Cattle show held in Madison, Wisconsin. “One of our learner outcomes for the school district is to be creative and innovative, and this is a great example!” stated Kevin Cooper, Nevada High School agriculture education teacher and FFA advisor.
