TEEN MAZE, a Signature Project of the Town and Country Kiwanis Club recently was awarded a Silver prize by Kiwanis International TEEN MAZE, a Signature Project of the Town and Country Kiwanis Club recently was awarded a Silver prize by Kiwanis International. The club has presented this program yearly the past nine years. It was developed for teen-agers with 10 other Kiwanis Clubs in District Eleven of the NebraskaIowa District of Kiwanis. The award was announced in the July 2020 Nebraska-Iowa District Newsletter. Teen Maze was developed to provide prevention services to youth addressing relationships, substance abuse, life skills and mental health
experiences. The program was developed to serve seventhgraders in Story, Boone and Greene counties. This age was selected for the reason it is a period of transition for teens who often are exposed to the use of alcohol, other drugs and have self-esteem issues and sexual activity. The project requires hundreds of volunteers and more than 2,500 hours yearly for planning, setup and leading teens through the activity stations and evaluations. This Kiwanis Family event is assisted by AKTION, Builders and Key Clubs in the local area.
Each of the Division’s clubs contribute funds to support this service project In the nine years, these clubs have contributed $52,000 and provided 8,600 hours of service. The Town and Country Kiwanis Club submitted this Teen Maze project to Kiwanis International acknowledging its success is the result of the work of many volunteers in the Clubs of the Kiwanis Family and the participating seventh-grade students through the years. Youth and Shelter Services continues to furnish administrative services to support the project.
