Diekmann discusses revision of land use plan to Town and Country Kiwanis Club Kelly Diekmann, director, Planning and Housing Department for the city of Ames, described the city’s present (1997) Land Use Plan and the elements being considered for a total revision of that plan known as “Ames Plan 2040, Live, Grow, Belong” at a recent meeting of the Town and Country Kiwanis Club. The current plan has been amended several times.

Time and circumstance make it wise to develop this new plan. The projected growth area possibilities available to the city are: North Extension (north of Ames Golf and Country Club): West Extensions A and B (West Ames and into Boone County); South Extensions A and B (South U.S. Highway 69); and East Extension (13th Street and Interstate 35). Each of these presents advantages

and problems needing solutions for viability. Diekmann also discussed Ames population growth (history and expected), available workforce and housing. The Plans finalization and adaption is scheduled for JanuaryMarch 2020. Public input is desired. Fabrikant Mads Clausen Foundation awards $20,000 grant to Ames Miracle Playground and Field Grant from foundation established by Danfoss company founder brings recreation facility serving children with special needs within reach of its funding goal. The Fabrikant Mads Clausen Foundation is pleased to support an exciting project to build a welcoming recreation area to Ames for people of all abilities through a special $20,000 grant to the Ames Miracle Playground and Field. The Fabrikant Mads Clausen Foundation was established in 1960 by Danish industrialist Mads Clausen, founder of Danfoss, based in Nordborg, Denmark. A Danfoss business segment — Danfoss Power Solutions — has manufacturing and administratve operations located in Ames and employs approximately 1,100 people. The Ames Miracle Playground and Field is a two-part project plotted for construction at Inis Grove Park. Part one is the allinclusive playground, which includes 100 percent accessible

playground features on a rubberized surface, catering to children with physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities. The second part of the project is a custom field made of cushioned, rubberized turf, accessible by wheelchair and other assistive devices. This new addition to Ames will offer an enriching environment with activities related to motion, sound and other sensory experiences, which encourages creativity and innovative thinking. “The Ames community is very important to Danfoss and we’re proud to support this vibrant space where people of all types can celebrate each other’s abilities while engaging in creative play,” said Julie Newell, Senior Director, Ames Campus. “As a company that embraces diversity and inclusivity, we’re excited to be a partner in bringing this special project to life.” With this grant, 90 percent of fundraising is complete on the Mirace League Park and Field’s estimated

$2,021,000 construction cost. Donations have come from individuals, as well as organizations. The Ames Foundation and members of the project steering committee are continuing their final fundraising efforts and working to secure a $200,000 Community Attractions & Tourism grant. Donation information is available at amesfoundation.org under ”Our Projects.” Groundbreaking for the Miracle League Field and All-Inclusive Playground will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10. Completion and dedication of the facility is anticipated in the spring of 2020. ”The Ames Foundation is excited and honored to be leading the effort to make this Field and Playground Project reality and are grateful for the support of organizations like Danfoss,” said Josh Shields, Ames Foundation Board member. ”Without this support, we wouldn’t be so close to breaking ground and making this project a reality.”
