MGMC Foundation receives $10,000 grant from Variety — the Children’s Charity Mary Greeley Medical Center has received a $10,000 grant from Variety — the Children’s Charity to fund the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Prevention Sleep Sacks and Education Program. The Variety grant will be used by the Birthways Department to provide a complimentary newborn-size HALO Sleepsack blanket as a gift to parents of each of the more than 1,100 babies born at Mary Greeley each year. Additionally, educational resources are provided to both parents and medical staff to help educate them on safe sleeping practices for a newborn. Each year, more than 2,500 babies die in the U.S. from SIDS, and Mary Greeley Medical Center is focused on making sure parents and staff have the resources they need to prevent this terrible tragedy. Melissa McGarry, executive director of the Mary Greeley Foundation said, “Through Variety’s grant program, we are able to continue our focus on enhancing the education and prevention of SIDS with all of our newborns. The program helps to ensure we are sending parents home with the necessary tools to provide a safe environment for their child.”
