Story Theater Company presents ‘Gooney Bird Greene and Her True-Life Adventures’ Story Theater Company (STC) kicks off its 2018-19 season with a production of “Gooney Bird Greene and Her True-Life Adventures, by Kent R. Brown. The show dates are at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 and 19, and at 2 p.m. on Oct. 20 and 21. All performances will be in STC’s black box theater at 615 S. Dayton Ave., Suite 133, in Ames. Tickets for the show are $8 through Oct. 17. Beginning Oct. 18, tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children, students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased through the STC website at storytheatercompany.org. While tickets can be purchased at the door, they are subject to availability. Based on the book by Lois Lowry, “Gooney Bird Greene and Her True-Life Adventures is set in a fifthgrade classroom in the town of Watertower, where the children are not excited to be back in school. Suddenly, the classroom door bursts open and the colorful and fun Gooney Bird appears, and helps awaken her
new friends’ imaginations. The cast includes 20 adolescents, ages 9 to 14, from Ames and the surrounding communities. Behind the scenes are six additional young people, ages 12 to 17, who handle props, lighting, sound, and costumes. The cast and crew are supported by a seven-person staff
of adults who help transform this young talent into a professional performance. Amelia Yoder plays Mrs. Pidgeon in her very first role with Story Theater Company. Nate VanDyk is a veteran of several STC plays. Madelin Dooley brings enthusiasm to the stage and is making her debut with Story Theater Com-
pany as Gooney Bird Greene. The director is Julia VanDyk, an STC alum and a recent graduate of Northwestern College. The stage manager for this production is Nancy Evans, who has had vast experience as a dramaturg and director for ISU and Western Illinois University as well as Stage West in Des Moines.
