THALASSIC EX NIHILO AN ANTI-CANCER FARMING & RELIGIOUS PLURALISM URBAN AGENDA

AMIRUL HAKEEM BIN MA’AZ M.Arch. 01

THALASSIC EX NIHILO What if man are being released to the sea? What if land sank to the sea? By 2050, around 200 million people will be permanently displaced through amalgamation of complex political, social and economic drivers (Stern, 2006) and as globalization has accelerated, social-cultural conflict will become the most rampant form of violence (Marshall, 2005) Analogically, are mankind adapting? Are they fit for the challenges at the acme of the 21st century? Various parties should be responsible helping each other in maintaining human stabilization in order not to be lost in the midst of world evolution. Multiple methods such as the introduction of hybrid programme typologies and technological advances can be utilized to achieve the stabilization vision. This vision foresee mimicking ‘utopia’; an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect. Can utopian system be a narrative that solves human problem? Or it is just a fairy tale? In this scheme, I will speculate, discuss and re-manifest the social image within the urban planning context of 2070. The identified issues and interpretations will tackle the sustainability questions of social, political, economic, humanity and environmental awareness.

november 2017

prior to the Muar Launderette issue, The Institute of Southeast Asia (ISEAS) commissioned a survey on the role of Islam and its governance in the state

of Malays agree that the Johor Sultan is a good guardian of Islam in the state. But they may not necessarily agree with the ruler’s views on Arabisation, and the federal religious bureaucracy Jakim, and Islamisation

of Malays support the application of hudud laws (Islamic criminal code) on Muslims

of the Malays feel that Muslims should occupy a majority of state government seats

of Malays want hudud laws to be applied to all Malaysians. Only 2 per cent of Chinese and 10 per cent of Indians agree

“Johor is more developed economically and more urban than the other states, so we would expect them to be more modern and to think of Islam as a more progressive religion. The Johor case confirms the findings that there is rising Islamic revivalist thinking in contemporary Malaysia today.” - Norshahril Saat, ISEAS

HYPOTHETICAL METAMODEL

SUBSTRUCTURAL THEORY

Phenomenology was once being popularized by Edmund Husserl, a forerunner in modern philosophy. Phenomenology is the study of structures of consciousness in surrounding as experienced from the 1st person point of view. Some examples of structure of consciousness is emotion, thought and sensorial perception. Husserl later on opposed phenomenology because he feels that people are taking granted of the natural surrounding. For Husserl, he thinks that man does not think and does not question about the surrounding. He proposed a deeper philosophy to suspend the spatio-temporal world and focusing on pure mental process. It is called Phenomenological Reduction. Phenomenological Reduction is defined by the state that a man is in constant judgemental about the natural world in order to gain pure phenomena.

10

CONCEPT

Upon having the Phenomenological theory as an underlying structure of the scheme, the theory is extracted in to a concept called ‘Unpacking Phenomena’. Do you ever think how a man discover onion at the very first time? Do they just walk away or examine it? Unpacking Phenomena invites people to have a pure mental process in prevailing another dimension of a matter or in detail the water element found on the site. So, how can we unpack the sea? Is there any good we can gain with it? What if we manifest new way of living? What if we live in a drowned surrounding? The programme notion is being structured to have 60% of water based programme and the other 40% is archetypal. Besides, the scheme is programmed to achieve supreme-tangibility with the genius loci and have zero schism between man and water.

PHASING - water will be released and can flow along the Selat Tebrau - introduction of water purification system to enhance the quality of the sea water - will be the year that the first leader of Johor will focus on countering religious problems - the first step is the birth of the Interfaith Research and Development Center. it is an adaptive reuse by reusing the Foon Yew Auxiliarry building

- with the presence of the crystal clear sea water, sea creatures bloomed at the Selat Tebrau - the sea creatures breed at the sunken ship placed on the site - it will be the year that there will be a covenant between religious leaders in Johor to settle the religious problem - an agreement to relocate religious worship centers into one site will be done in order to achieve religious pluralism

- growth of special ‘X’ sea creatures/ organisms - a Research and Development Center will be built to study on the sea organisms that is said can cure cancer - researcher of the Interfaith Research and Development Center found a common ground to strengthen the religious pluralism module; the water element - the birth of Trancendental Garden and Aquaterra which uses the water element in its program

- The ‘Orang Laut emerged as one of the elite native that produces anti cancer substances through the sea organisms farming - they will populate the Selat Tebrau again with a new manifestation; economy enhancer of Johor and will be the main center of public at Stulang - the Birth of Thalassic Realm and Habitats. - on the foreshore there will be multiple programs such as the seagate, terminus, biomarine and the Orang Laut museum - water desalination is introduced to cater the water usage for the land
