The story of how Amlin UMC changed one person’s life

iss

I started attending Amlin, about 3 years ago, with my son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Stacy Rumpf. I was “sortof” searching for church. When I first

Sunday service at Amlin, but thought I could supplement church by watching a TV sermon, or devotional readings…I was so wrong! During my absence I felt a tremendous void in my life. I was depressed, frustrated and angry. I began hating my job. I couldn’t seem to get my life back together! I knew I had to turn my worries over to God- having faith and

trusting that he would show me the way. I met with Pastor Steve often and asked that he include me in church prayers. Two months ago, my prayers were answered. I was promoted to another job, working M-F. My first thought was I can go back to Amlin on Sundays! I can’t put into words how difficult it was, not being at Amlin listening to the Sunday mes-

sages and feeling the community of love and acceptance…not to mention the fabulous music and awesome pot lucks! I didn’t realize until I couldn’t go, what a tremendous part of my life Amlin had become. Glory to God for showing me the way, and thank you Amlin for being a wonderful, accepting “church family.”

In My Own Words

starting attending it was not with any frequency, but as time went by, I attended regularly. I must say regardless of how often I attended, I always felt welcome and part of the “church family.” About 9 months ago, I accepted a new job, which involved working weekends. I was concerned about not being able to attend

Who Knew? Who’s New? Easter Sunday was a wonderful occasion for families within our church family to reunite and celebrate together Christ’s resurrection. Here are some notable reunions. From Chicago, Kristin Stovall

joined her parents. Lyn and Dolores Blevins breezed into the sunrise service with her mother Gail Campbell—notable because Gail has spent the last 7 weeks in the hospital and rehab. Mary Kwasek, mother

of Bob Meyer, moved from California to Ohio this past year. This was her first Easter with us. Wendy Putka’s sister Shelley is becoming a sunrise service regular with us. Welcome to these and many others. Did you know that the two wooden crosses of our NLC were made by Ron Keller? On the interior cross, Ron collaborated with a close friend and on the exterior cross he worked with John Woerner. This Easter morning the simple cross adorning our church steeple rose against the blue sky,

shining in the new sun. Amlin members, led by John Woerner, restored that steeple and cross in the late 1990’s. Kudos to the kids in the youth group who pulled off a tremendously successful 30hour famine, raising lots of money for the Hilliard Food Bank. The Tavern Theology group is pretty informal and is now meeting Tuesdays at Otie’s in Hilliard. Regulars include Tyler Hollinger, Lyn and Dolores Blevins, Stuart Osbourne, Becky Kent and Andy Clingman.

Anyone is welcome to join them on any Tuesday! Reprising an idea from last month’s newsletter, I have two “pewtiful beautiful” nominations. Nancy Chattoraj filled a row with her family: daughter Ranee and grandchildren Matt, Zach, Max and Hannah. Christian, Alex and Tori Mateos were joined by Christian’s friend Steve Mortach and his kids, Noah, Emily and Lily, another pewful. Keep filling them. It’s a beautiful sight.

PRAYER CORNER Please keep the following persons in your prayers. If you have a prayer request, you are invited to write it on a prayer card, loqcated in the pew, and drop it in the offering plate or contact the email prayer ministry at wing1@sbcglobal.net. We will list prayer requests in the bulletin and newsletter for one month, unless you prefer not to have them printed.

The Pastor’s Message

Reasons to Serve in Amlin 's Children 's Ministry

Maybe you’re a parent of young children, and you want a break. Maybe you feel as if you have already done your part. Perhaps you feel inexperienced. Perhaps you simply feel too busy. Just about everyone can come up with a reason not to serve our children at church, and often the reasons are very good. Still, the fact remains, children’s ministries are vital to our church; no one will argue that they aren’t important. Everyone wants the next generation to grow into God-loving, Christ-serving adults who will share the gospel, run our businesses and government with wisdom and raise Godly families. The problem is, we all want it done, but no one wants to do it—or at least a very small few. Of course, it shouldn’t be that way. If you are in the midst of just such as conundrum, here are five reasons to serve in children’s ministry: Working with children allows you to get a glimpse into their thoughts, their personalities, and their lives. You will gain such insight into their little minds! If you are afraid that you don’t know enough, don’t worry; you don’t! No one knows everything, but as long as you are willing to learn, you will! And you may be surprised to find out how much you can learn from the children themselves. Our children need Godly role models in today's world. With increased media influences, children often struggle to find Godly role models. Serving in children’s ministry offers the opportunity to demonstrate how a Godly life is lived. Not only do children’s ministries provide an opportunity to reach children, they also equip these children to share the gospel themselves. When God opens the heart of one child, God may just use that

child to reach their parents and their peers. It starts with a foundation. And the number one reason you should work in the children’s ministry of your church is… It gives you an opportunity to easily share your faith. God has worked in your life, and teaching allows you to share that work in the simplest manner. The Bible clearly directs us to share our faith. Working and teaching children helps fulfill that mission. So, instead of thinking about why you can’t serve, why not consider how you can? Remember, there are lots of ways to serve. Not everyone has to be a lead teacher. You can serve as a substitute teacher, or be an assistant teacher. You can pray for each child by name or write notes to those who are absent. There are lots of opportunities, and there are lots of reasons. Contact Wendy Putka at wputka@mac.com or at 352-4681.
