The existing Delhi prisons are presently highly overpopulated. They house more than double their capacity which has lead to horrible health & hygiene conditions, poor management and a lack of discipline. There is a need to reduce prison population on one hand and to construct new jails on the other. One of the sites sanctioned for a new jail by the government is in Baprola, West Delhi.

Thesis: Reforming community, prison design Macro Concept The design creates an internal
community environment with an external barrier which is secure but disorienting; reflects
being within & outside society.
New Delhi, india
Reform Community areas on a level lower than the entry into each block, require fewer restrictions.
Segregation
Direct Interactive Surveillance
of inmates depending on severity of crime and possibility of rehabilitation.
Security Panopticon design; guards at higher vantage points are unseen by the prisoners. A consciousness of constant surveillance is internalized by the inmates. Hierarchy of Barriers Depths in Security Identical Paths and intersections ensures easy
access inwards but confusing to navigate outwards.
120째 Angled Corners allow
more visibility into connecting corridors and minimize blind spots. It also allows for quicker mobility.

FIROZ SHAH STADIUM, NEW DELHI
BRIEF
The brief was to design a hotel next to the Firoz Shah stadium in an irregular plot.
Access to the conference and banquet hall is separated from the access to the hotel lobby. The cafe can be accessed directly from the central open space.
The hotel is aligned to the stadium to allow hotel rooms a visual connection to the stadium field.
