Life is but a Dream “I encourage readers to make their dreams come true no matter where they are in life” Life can be a dream if you have visions of what you want, but to succeed at making them come to life you must define yourself for yourself and take action. Answer these innerprompting questions first: Who am I? What makes me happy? Where do I want to see myself in one year? Five years? Who and what would I be surrounded by? One step in the right direction could be the biggest step of your life. Make sure the actions you take now contribute to the life you want to live. Those actions could be to study, listen to music, purchase a camera, apply to a certain program or practice your skills, the list goes on. It’s okay to ask for help along the way, too.

This year… COVID-19 shattered countless plans across the globe. Graduation ceremonies, birthday parties, vacations and concerts were cancelled. Schools and businesses shut down with rocky in-person to online transitions. Millions lost their lives, millions more were exposed to the virus and the pandemic settled among us. Unsure of the future, some people may have found themselves in a mundane void -- a place of uncertainty where either fear or excitement can take over and influence their actions. In any moment where fear takes over, we subconsciously create a reality that we do not want to experience. We grow to believe that only monsters and worst-case scenarios come from the dark.

However, we tend to forget that the universe, dreams and everything around us came from the dark, too. Every masterpiece starts with an idea, and every invention is born out of a necessity to add value to our daily lives. Dreamers take their visions and move with intention to make their dreams come true. Even

Study Hard! Although I had no tools to start an art shop, I did have the vision and goals set for what I wanted to accomplish. I made time to study those who were already running art shops and picked out which pieces I wanted to sell. Make a Plan!

Martin Luther King, Jr. recited his “I Have A Dream” speech at the March on Washington in 1963. Although he is no longer with us, we are living in part of his dream. His ability to define and respect himself allowed others to do the same. In the process, his vision allowed AfricanAmericans to love themselves and progress in their journey to social justice, equality and freedom. while in the dark, they trust the process to reach their light. So, “let there be light.” If you feel that you are in the dark now, let excitement take over. Allow yourself to dream. Take a moment to imagine the best version of yourself living your best life, then take action to make that dream come true. Martin Luther King, Jr. did it, and I did, too.

For years I defined myself as an author, artist and musician. In college, I wrote about local musicians and submerged myself in music shows on a weekly basis. In September, two months after graduating from Ball State University with my bachelor’s in magazine journalism, I started my own business called Dreamscape Press Co. It is an art shop on Etsy, an online platform that allows small business owners to sell their art and crafts to customers worldwide.

Life played out like a game of Mario Kart. There were many obstacles, detours, twists and turns, but I could only focus on reaching the end result of my goal. I wrote the items I needed and the tasks I wanted to accomplish on a piece of paper. Then I purchased those items over time with money I had saved. The process took consistent intentional effort, but it worked out in the end. Even if you find yourself bored with the process of achieving your goal, continue to be consistent with your efforts and have some fun along the way. Before you know it, you will emerge from the darkness with your own light to share with the world. ###
