WELCOME TO LOS CABOS!

Los Cabos is located on the southernmost tip of the Baja California Peninsula, surrounded by the waters of the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Sea of Cortez on the other. Rocky cliffs and stretches of desert meet the ocean along countless stretches of sandy beach. Natural landmarks await, including The Arch, Mount Solmar and Neptune's Finger. Each of these geological beauties is set in front of a crystalline backdrop of the sea in which you can kayak, snorkel or swim. Of course, visiting Land's End can be the beginning of memorable adventures to both Lovers and Divorce Beaches. Visit in the mild winter months for the chance to go whale-watching with professional boat guides. They will take you out into the open water among sea lions, humpbacks and grey whales who mix and mingle in these stunning waters.

MUST-DO ACTIVITIES WHEN VISITING

LOS CABOS PUERTO VALLARTA

Citlali Marrufo

Amstar Operations Assistant

Now that you are here in Los Cabos, what should you do? We asked Citlali Marrufo, a local resident of Los Cabos, what she recommends to her visiting family & friends when they are in her ‘neck of the beach.’

Enjoy an Outdoor Adventure.

more in in the the waters waters There is adventure at every turn in Los Cabos, from snorkeling, sailing, diving and more of the Pacific, to thrilling zip lining and ATV off-road exploration in the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. "There is plenty to do here if you like the outdoors and adrenaline rushes," Citlali says, "There’s even a camel trek in the desert. Cabo is a thrill-seeker’s paradise!"

Experience Magical Villages Outside the Resort Towns

Get off the beaten tourist track! There are several interesting villages and towns accessible from Los Cabos and making time to visit them will leave you with a better understanding of Mexico’s history and culture. El Triunfo, once the largest town in Baja In the 1900's, was a successful successful mining mining town town and and now is a charming location, home to architectural remnants designed by Gustave Eiffel - yes, the very same architect who designed the Paris Eiffel Tower. And if you stop in San Bartolo, you can purchase typical Mexican sweets made from the mango trees growing in the region.

Visit Espiritu Santo Island

Part of a protected marine biosphere, Espiritu Santo is a paradise for marine adventurers, while its smaller sister island Partida is home to Ensenada Grande Beach, once voted the most beautiful beach in Mexico, and one of the top 12 beaches in the world by The Travel Magazine. The waters surrounding these uninhabited islands offer terrific snorkeling and diving and host a plethora of marine life including rays, turtles and dolphins.

It’s a “whale” of an adventure

Citlali also shares that one of the most popular activities for visitors and locals alike is the special experience of joining a photo safari to snap pictures of migrating whales swimming along the coastline of Baja California. From December to March, Los Cabos has the privilege of hosting magnificent whales in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez. "I take my family out every year and it never gets 'old' seeing them," Citlali beams.

Find the real Mexico “vibe”

Lastly, Citlali mentioned that getting away from your resort and spending time "downtown" offers vacationers the chance to discover the real Mexico. lmmersing themselves in the local streets surrounding Marina Cabo San Lucas or strolling through the main square of San Jose del Cabo, is where both towns truly come alive. "Search out Plaza Mijares in San Jose del Cabo," Citlali says, offering one last tip, "you'II find an eclectic choice of quaint restaurants to satisfy most any palate."

TEQUILA

HOW AGAVE PLANTS BECAME MEXICO’S RENOWNED LIQUOR

Thinking about grabbing a refreshing margarita as you're relaxing on the beach? Or calling for a round of "shots!" to celebrate a special moment? Did you know tequila was first created in the state of Jalisco? And did you know there are more than 1,000 brands of tequila to choose from? Tequila is a product made from the agave plant that thrives in Central Mexico. The ancient Aztecs would ferment the plant's sap to create a drink called pulque. When the Spanish arrived in the 1500's, their experimentation gave way to mezcaI and further refinement eventually led to the first versions of tequila. The first agave distillery was created by the Marquis of Altamira in a little town, named of course — Tequila. In the 1930's, a bar owner near Tijuana created a drink called a Tequila Daisy, which was discovered by a U.S. journalist who took the recipe home. The "Daisy," or "Margarita" in Spanish, became so popular, it's still one of the top-selling drinks at bars and restaurants today. All tequila must come from specified Mexican regions and be prepared from blue agave, or it can't be legally called tequila. Considered one of the country's cultural treasures, tequila has transformed itself into a meaningful gift for family and friends. What did you bring me back from Mexico? Tequila!

TIEMPO DE FIESTA LOS CABO’S NIGHT SCENE After catching an amazing sunset melting into the Pacific Ocean, Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo light up-ready for a good time, any night of the week. You'll find sultry dance clubs and casual bars, DJs and live music, and an eclectic mix of music featuring Latin rhythms, hip-hop, jazz, electronica, salsa and rock. You name it, Los Cabos has it! It's no wonder this is considered the nightlife capital of southern Baja. Generally speaking, Cabo San Lucas has the bigger reputation for over-the-top nightlife with most of the action centered around Marina Boulevard near the main marina. Pulsating clubs like Mandala and Pink Lady feature the latest beats from hip-hop to techno and everything in between. Several venues offer live music showcasing old-fashioned, good-time rock n' roll like the Cabo Wabo Cantina (founded by former Van Halen front man Sammy Hagar). The Purple VIP Rooftop Lounge at Breathless Resort is one of the hippest, new offerings on the scene, with daytime pool parties and nightly party passes. San Jose del Cabo is much more low-key. It's more about a good drink and conversation as opposed to the dusk-to-dawn all-nighters in Cabo. But don't worry, it has its wild side as well. Check out Boulevard Mijares in the historic district for several nighttime entertainment spots.

GOLFER’S PARADISE

In addition to being home to fantastic vacation weather, incredible beaches, a warm hospitable people and exciting adventures, Los Cabos is fast becoming a golfer's paradise. With over fifteen 18-hole professional courses already available and several more under construction or on the drawing board, golf fanatics vacationing in Baja California Sur can challenge themselves to a different round of golf every day of their holiday. The views from the courses are spectacular. At any given moment you're playing through oasis-like fairways and greens nestled between desert mountain cliffs and the Sea of Cortez. At some courses, snacks and beverages are included - where an order of tacos and a shot of tequila may or may not help straighten out your slice! And if you're lucky, one of your tee shots will be framed by the back drop of a breaching whale splashing into the sea in the distance.

A PASSION FOR FOOD DINING IN LOS CABOS Are you thinking that the only choices you have are your hotel's buffets and the American fast food restaurants in popular vacation resorts? Think again! The Los Cabos area is bursting with restaurants ranging from award-winning gourmet eateries to local favorites - and everything in between. As a coastal destination, restaurants in this vacation paradise are bursting with options of fresh seafood, with the catch of the day grilled over a mesquite wood fire the most locally inspired seafood dish. San Jose del Cabo has recently emerged as "the place to be" if you're looking for an eclectic list of culinary options. Definitely more laid-back than its more party-oriented sister Cabo San Lucas, San Jose's relaxed atmosphere offers a variety of venues to enjoy a fabulous meal. Several spots are sprinkled throughout the Historic District, others have taken up residence in restored haciendas and most all take advantage of the incredible Cabo weather, offering meals outdoors on colorful patios and street-side tables. One of the best experiences of traveling is enjoying a destination's favorite restaurants and local cuisine. So get out there!
