ALG Q4 Global Town Hall
One of the most important characteristics of our company, which differentiates us from other organizations, is constant communication. That is why we held our ALG Q4 Global Town Hall on December 7— an important moment for all colleagues to learn about the activities carried out and the achievements we have made as a team. In this event, the winners of the Values Awards were also presented.
HYATT Family 6 | The Star Stories
In December, we were delighted to celebrate Hyatt's fifth annual Global Day of Gratitude. Our celebration this year was aligned with our purpose and Hyatt and ALG’s shared value of wellbeing. We had the opportunity to embrace a gratitude mindset and inspire others to do the same.
To celebrate the Global Day of Gratitude, on December 14 and throughout that week, Hyatt colleagues, guests, and customers were invited to send personalized gratitude notes digitally to anyone in the world.
To further extend this gratitude, the Hyatt Hotels Foundation will donate $1 USD for every digital Gift of Gratitude sent (up to $100,000 USD) to benefit four nonprofit organizations that support the three World of Care pillars below. The funds raised from this campaign will help those nonprofit organizations increase the impact of their work:
Caring
for People: Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (Youth Employment) Caring for the Planet: World Wildlife Fund (Sustainability)
Caring for Responsible Business: ECPAT and Polaris (Human trafficking prevention and awareness)
Thank you very much to all who participated in this wonderful activity!
Just one small act of gratitude can create a large ripple effect: Let gratitude guide and inspire you every day!
WORDS OF
MARK HOPLAMAZIAN
Dear Colleagues,
In May, we announced the launch of the Inclusive Collection designed to further solidify Hyatt’s leadership in the luxury all-inclusive category and bring together our nine global, all-inclusive brands under one portfolio.
In the few short months since its launch, we’ve seen significant growth of the new collection, with expansion into new markets, including plans to add five resorts in Bulgaria beginning in 2023 and the upcoming opening of Dreams Madeira in Portugal expected to take place in 2024.
This growth shows that our strategy is working, and I am excited to share the next step in our journey. Starting today, we will officially rebrand the AMR™ Collection as the Inclusive Collection, part of World of Hyatt, completing our vision of uniting our all-inclusive resorts under one portfolio. In the coming days, you will see the new branding getting adopted across consumer channels and go-to-market commercial strategies, with B2B channels following suit in 2023.
Importantly, today also marks another milestone – the integration of 20+ European resorts into the World of Hyatt loyalty program. This exciting addition further strengthens Hyatt’s leadership position in the region by offering members more global leisure travel options.
These updates are the natural next step in our integration strategy, bringing more value to our guests and members, and enabling us to continue capturing leisure travel demand. You can learn more about the World of Hyatt integration in Europe by reading our press release.
I would like to express my gratitude to our Inclusive Collection colleagues and business coordination teams, who have worked to make our strategy – to be the leader in luxury all-inclusive – a reality. It is because of you that we have such a strong, differentiated portfolio of resorts to offer our guests and members. Thank you.
I look forward to seeing the continued, shared success of our Hyatt and ALG businesses in the new year.
All my best, MARK
HOPLAMAZIANPresident and Chief Executive Officer

OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES INTERNATIONAL DAY
The annual International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated on December 3, was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations.
The observance of this day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and wellbeing of persons with disabilities.
We celebrate this day to appreciate the contributions people with disabilities make to our societies, and to express solidarity with them in their struggle to overcome the barriers and challenges which they still face due to stigmatization and exclusion.
What is a disability?

“OUR VALUES” AT CANCUN UNO
Our values guide us in our daily lives to be more inclusive and compassionate, to act openly and honestly, and to use fun as a stimulus. That is why last Thursday, December 29, we held a surprise activity for our Cancun colleagues, where we reinforced our 6 values and Hyatt’s purpose —We care for people so they can be their best.
In this activity, our colleagues had to find some Christmas spheres hidden throughout the building's floors in order to test their knowledge in a trivia quiz about our values. Winners were awarded a special surprise gift!
We would like to thank all those colleagues who participated with enthusiasm in our activity. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
We will soon hold more activities for our colleagues.
We invite you to stay in tune.
CLOSURE OF THE
DONATAPA PROGRAM IN COSTA RICA
We are delighted to share with all Amstar colleagues that on December 3, we closed the Donatapa program, where our Costa Rican team
actively participated in helping create the first accessible beach in Guanacaste, in the Bahía Junquillal National Wildlife Refuge. This beach has four picnic tables with wheelchair access, with a 100-meter walkway so that people with disabilities can enter the sea through the beach; they also have an aquatic wheelchair that will be on-site for when someone needs it. It is worth mentioning that it is a beautiful place surrounded by great biological wealth since it has seven different ecosystems.
he plastic catwalk was possible thanks to the coordination of the Pro-Parks Association and the commitment of thousands of people and public and private institutions that together, we can collect 22 tons of recyclable
These small actions make a difference in the world, and we are delighted to participate in this great family that is Amstar for supporting these worthwhile causes. Without a doubt, we live our values on a day-to-day basis.
Next, we will share with you the video of the event: Click here to watch the video
70S, 80S & MORE CHRISTMAS PARTY
December is one of the most awaited by our colleagues; it is a month full of joy, fun, and above all, coexistence as our family. Because of this, we held our Christmas Posada in Cancun with the 70s, 80s, and more themes, where our colleagues could bring out their most creative side. There were all kinds of styles during the night, which we loved because it allowed us to show a little bit of our essence.
We enjoyed a delicious dinner, music, and some dance performances during the evening. We also had a 360° photo booth to keep the memories.
We want to thank all the teams involved in organizing this fantastic event, such as meetings & events, Human Resources, Customer Service & Operations. They are an incredible team, and without a doubt, achieving all this would not have been possible without the participation of each team member and their leaders.
We invite you to view and download the posada pictures on this magazine's advertising page.
INTERVIEW WITH THE AREA LEADER
JOHAN BARRANTES
What has been your trajectory within the company?
I started as a sales representative at Amstar on July 03, 2017. About three months later, I had the opportunity to perform in a new position, which was called Destination Supervisor by that time. As this was a small destination, I was involved in many very challenging and exciting tasks, such as creating excursions, customer service tasks, sales, and quality control, among others.
Currently, as Hotel Customer Service Manager, my duties are more focused on sales management and supervision of our customer service department.
What does Amstar mean to you?
It is a scenario full of challenges and joys in which I move daily, surrounded by my coworkers who are also like my family.
What is the main strength of the department?
It is a highly professional team that carries out its work with a lot of passion; combined, two things are compelling.
A highly professional team mixed with a lot of passion can accomplish great things
What are the main challenges facing the department today?
One of the main challenges we face today is to stand out from all the product offerings of our competitors. That is why we seek to promote those excursions that make us different with high quality and safety standards.
What information from the department would be helpful for all colleagues within the company to know that would help the department to provide better service, meet its goals or achieve a more significant impact?
The sales department, like all others, is very dynamic and cannot remain static, waiting for customers to arrive; therefore, continuous sales training and knowledge of new trends will always be welcome from our side.

My name is Karla Mendez, and I was part of the Integral Development of Leaders Workshop. Before giving my testimony, I am very proud to belong to a company that encourages people so they can reach their best version. This activity is an excellent benefit given to the collaborator.
During the workshop, we received tools we can implement in our work environment; leadership in every company area is essential, and so is a good leader who teaches and inspires others to achieve a common goal.
I still have a lot of gratitude to those who taught each module and a great recognition to my colleagues who are excellent leaders in their work area; we have many challenges this 2023. I plan to continue to grow with the company in more activities.

PRODUCTIVITY
TO ACHIEVE OUR GOALS
By We Emotionally CareWhen we shift the focus of our efforts to this new vision, identifying opportunities to improve our performance in our personal routine and professional life becomes much easier.
Each of us has a series of tasks to accomplish every day, in addition to the ideas we come up with, the goals we plan for ourselves, and the tasks delegated to us.
That is why we want to introduce you to the Productivity Methods, which are a pre-designed methodology. By following these perfectly clear and coordinated rules, you will be able to organize yourself and maintain a level of productivity radically superior to what you could achieve just by reacting in the moment to everything.
These methods consist of rules and physical or virtual tools.
To give you an idea of what these tools can be, productivity methods commonly include instruments like inboxes, to-do lists, an information management system and others depending on each method.
We present here some Personal Productivity methods, so you can investigate them and see which one best fits the needs of your purposes in this 2023.
Being productive is knowing how to organize our responsibilities and having the discipline to follow the line we have set ourselves.
Getting Things Done (GTD) Method
If you are very organized and want to keep better control of your activities or tasks, this method is for you.
The Getting Things Done, or GTD, method states that the more information you try to retain in your memory, the less productivity and concentration you will achieve. Instead of relying entirely on the capacity of your brain, the GTD methodology encourages you to store all the information related to your work in an external and organized reference source. That way, you will always know what to do next, without having to worry about forgetting a detail, and you can stop procrastinating.
The GTD productivity method is a widely used time management strategy because it is very easy to implement and very effective. Although you may not be aware of it, your brain is always active, even in the background, constantly reorganizing your to-dos to make sure nothing slips your mind. Every time you add a new task to your mental list, your brain needs to review everything it has recorded to reprioritize considering this new task.
Kanban Method
It is useful if you have many tasks or projects. With this method you will be able to follow up on each one.
It is based on a philosophy focused on continuous improvement, where tasks are "extracted" from a list of pending actions in a constant workflow.
The Kanban methodology is implemented by means of Kanban boards. It is a visual method of project management that allows teams to visualize their workflows and workload.
In a Kanban board, work is displayed on a project as a board organized by columns. Typically, each column represents a work stage. The most basic Kanban board may feature columns such as work To Do, In Progress and Done. The individual tasks – represented by visual cards on the board – advance through the different columns until they are completed.
Today, Kanban boards are mostly virtual boards with columns representing work stages (although you can still draw Kanban boards on white boards and track work with post-its). On a board, a Kanban card represents a task, and this task card advances through the work stages as it is completed.
Teams using a Kanban system tend to collaborate on a single Kanban board, although tasks are usually assigned to individual team members.
Seinfeld Method
Put a calendar in a visible space. Every time you do what you must do, mark it with an X.
All you need is a large calendar and place it in a visible place, so that you see it every time you pass by. Add two different color markers, one brighter than the other. Define a daily task or goal and every day before going to bed, if you achieved the task, you will mark it with an X using the brighter color marker. Do this only if you have achieved it, otherwise you will be cheating yourself.
If you fail to achieve the goal, you can leave the box of that day blank or fill it with the other marker. This box without the X will represent a visual failure for you. So, each day you will strive to complete your task and mark the X so as not to break the chain of achievement.
Little by little you will create a routine of habits to meet your daily goals. The calendar should be large and made of paper, so that you can hang it up and you can't stop looking at it every day at any time. Whereas, if it is digital, you may forget to check it and also to do your daily tasks.
It is also important that the tasks defined are motivating and that you can complete them so that you start having success. Define a single task at a time, when you strengthen your routines, you will be able to increase the number of tasks you may accomplish daily.
The objective sought by applying this method is to encourage habits every day. Every time you look at the calendar you will be aware of the efforts you have made, and the number of X's will encourage you to keep trying. You will focus on your goals and create habits naturally without having to make a special effort.
Eat that Frog Method
Doing the most important or least favorite task early in the day will make you feel motivated and more productive.
The Eat that Frog strategy is a prioritization and productivity method used to help people easily identify the most complex tasks. The purpose is to be able to identify those tasks that are more challenging so that they can be done first thing in the morning.
Simply put, this is the process in which you identify the most difficult task of the day and complete it before doing any other activity. If you have two complex tasks, define which one is more challenging and tackle it first.
It focuses on completing one task in the day. That's it. Once you've finished your most complex task, you have the rest of the day to work on smaller tasks on your to-do list without fear of having to tackle the most difficult thing on the list.
It allows you to optimize the most productive hours of the day and promotes deep work.
Pomodoro Method
This technique helps you when you need to stay focused, leave distractions behind and move faster on your tasks or projects.
If you are often distracted, this technique will help you be more productive and develop greater concentration to work or study more focused.
It is a famous method of time management and productivity enhancement that splits work into blocks of time to prioritize engagement in work or studies, alternating with short breaks as rewards.
With the Pomodoro Technique you get the best of two worlds: having time to focus on your responsibilities and finding space to rest or give yourself permission to disperse your attention.
To apply the Pomodoro Technique just follow the steps below:
Set a timer on your cell phone to ring after 25 minutes. There are also tools you can use to perform this exercise, below we describe some of them:
Commit to using those 25 minutes to work in a focused manner on your homework and priority to-do list.
Once the 25-minute cycle is over, schedule a 5-minute break where you can stretch, hydrate, take a break from the screen, answer messages on hold, etc.
Repeat this cycle until you have completed four cycles through the process. Once at that point, celebrate your achievement by giving yourself a 20 to 25-minute break and then get back to work.
REVIEW YOUR ON THIS YEAREND
PERSONAL FINANCES
In this edition, we want to emphasize the importance of taking a pause in your life and reviewing your personal finances. From time to time, we can evaluate some important aspects of our life such as our assets, expenses, debts, etc. Perhaps some points should be reviewed more frequently and others at the end of each month or year to make sure everything is okay.
Doing these reviews at the end of the year helps us to have a better overview and reflect on our mistakes to prevent them from happening again.
Now, it's worth remembering that personal finance is just one aspect of our life plan, but a critical one, because it gives us the tools to achieve what is most important to us. As we know, everything costs money: health, food, transportation, opportunities and even a place to live. That's why it's important to know how to manage it and direct it towards our priorities.
So, the first thing we have to review is precisely what those priorities are, because they also evolve throughout life. A single person just starting college has different priorities than someone who just had their first child. But even people who are going through similar life moments may have different priorities.
Financial health program
What are your priorities and how far are you from them?
It is important to mention that we often confuse our priorities and put aside fundamental and unavoidable things, such as retirement, for more immediate satisfactions such as buying a new car or the latest cell phone with a cool camera.
Retirement, for example, should be a priority for everyone, because sooner or later we will reach an age when we can no longer work, or will not have the possibility of doing so. That's why it's so important to start making a plan that your future self will appreciate.
In Mexico, the retirement age is 65 years old, whereas in other countries it is a little later. At that age we can probably live for many more years. What are we going to live on? How much would you have to save to maintain your standard of living without receiving income during all that time? The answer will most likely surprise you— it's a pretty big number. The only way to reach it is with steady, well-invested savings over many years, so that it has time to grow in real terms. If you put it off, it will be more difficult to get it.
I still don't know anyone who hasn't said "I wish I had started saving earlier".
When we are young it seems that we have plenty of time and we see retirement as something far away, and there are always things that seem more important to us. We can also avoid making incidental expenses and invest that money in something that will generate more income in the long run.
So, start now and prioritize!

WORLD SOIL DAY
Soil beneath our feet is a world made up of organisms, minerals, and organic components that provides food for humans and animals through plant growth.
Like us, soils need a balanced and varied supply of nutrients in appropriate amounts to be healthy.
Soil degradation induces some soils to be nutrient depleted losing their capacity to support crops, causing hunger, poverty and malnutrition, while others have such a high nutrient concentration that represent a toxic environment to plants and animals, pollutes the environment and cause climate change.
When crops are harvested, those nutrients are removed from the soil, so proper follow-up and management is necessary to revitalize them and make future plants optimal in nutritional content.
World Soil Day 2022 and its campaign "Soils:
Where food begins" aims to raise awareness of the importance of soils for food production, optimal nutrition and diets, while calling for sustainable management to ensure soil health.
Soil nutrient loss is a major soil degradation process threatening nutrition, food security and sustainability.
Over the last 70 years, the level of vitamins and nutrients in food has drastically decreased, and it is estimated that 2 billion people worldwide suffer from lack of micronutrients, known as hidden hunger, because it is difficult to detect.
Did you know that there are more living organisms in a tablespoon of soil than people on Earth?
Let's take action and empathize with those who bear the brunt of these threats.
NEW YEAR, NEW YOU BY DAVID PRITCHARD
As we approach 2023, Its almost that time of year when we start afresh, with a blank slate, and think about the possibilities that the new year holds for us. I love this time of year.
It’s a beautiful thing to reflect on your past year in 2022, how you grew and what you learned, and then say goodbye to the year. And then think about what you might create this year, the gorgeous freshness of it all just invigorating you.
But it can also be a fruitless effort for many people, making resolutions only to break them within a week or two. I am not about New Year’s resolutions, because they are things tossed out light with no structure in place for success. Let’s not repeat that mistake in 2023!
Instead, let's create aspirations that will happen. Let’s dream big, choose powerful focuses for ourselves, and then put a plan in place that will make these dreams a reality. But what often gets in the way when we decide it’s time to create something new for ourselves?
Distraction, and an inability to find focus.
I confess to being as prone to distractions just as much as anyone else: I will start reading about something that interests me and disappear down the rabbit hole for hours (even days) at a time. But my ability to focus on a single task has dramatically improved over the years, and that one habit has changed my life.
While a few years ago, I couldn’t sit down to work on something without quickly switching to email or one of my favorite Internet forums or sites, today I can sit down and write.
I can clear away distractions, when I set my mind to it, and do one thing. And this single habit changes everything: you lose yourself in that task, become so immersed that you pour everything you have into the work, and it becomes a meditative, transformative experience. Your happiness increases, stress goes down, and work improves.
We can always come back. In fact, coming back to revisit a habit might be the most powerful habit of all. Coming back, over and over again, just like we return to the breath, over and over again, after letting our minds wander.
Incorporating a new routine into our days can feel daunting at first. We may be struck with inspiration to build a healthier life and set unrealistic goals to try to get there overnight.
Building routines and rituals that nourish us, our goals, and our desires does take time and consistency, but it doesn’t need to feel difficult. If you’ve been trying to stick to new habits and enhance your daily routine, here are some ways to make it an easier and more enjoyable process.
Start Small .
Biting off more than you can chew is a surefire way to feel overwhelmed and ready to give up when trying to incorporate a new habit into your life. Start with one goal and start small. If you want to prioritize calming your nervous system, choose one ritual, like meditation, and start with a few minutes a day. Continue until that feels
easy to you, then add on in length or incorporate another goal like yoga or pranayama into the mix when you feel ready to. Small goals built over time create a sustainable foundation for long-term success, don’t try to do it all overnight.
Be Gentle with Yourself
There may be days that you don’t check everything off the to-do list. It’s important that we show ourselves love and grace as we strive to fill our days with more purpose and meaningful practices. Do the best you can and celebrate small wins that get you one step closer to your goals. Use this as an opportunity to practice showing yourself the love and compassion you would with a small child who is trying something new for the first time. Foster patience and an attitude of loving kindness as you focus on your growth.
Choose Something
You Enjoy If you find yourself dreading the rituals you have set in place for yourself or that they feel impossible to stick to– it may be time to rethink if you are doing some-thing because it serves you, or because you think you should.
Self-growth doesn’t always have to involve doing things we don’t enjoy. Lightness and joy are important aspects of self-care and choosing healthy habits and rituals that we find fun and look forward to is an important part of our journey. If meditating at a certain time doesn’t work for you, try another. If workout classes don’t work for you, try moving outside. If journaling in the morning isn’t your thing, try painting. Find things that better your mind, body, and soul that you enjoy and look forward to.
If you’re in the process of taking steps to build a healthier and more fulfilled sense of self, show yourself appreciation and grace along the way. Remember that self-care and the pursuit of better well-being can be a light and enjoyable experience, and so can your daily rituals.
Positive Psychology at Work
HOW CAN WE MAKE
WORK MEETINGS MORE EFFICIENT?
As we all know, meetings are part of our day-to-day life. It is a way to connect and organize as a team for the activities that are going to happen. However, sometimes meetings can become a "syndrome" for some people, commonly known as "meeting sickness", which is reflected in the excess of meetings that, on many occasions, are unproductive because they lack planning or the correct protocol.
Too many virtual meetings are the main reason 68% of workforce feels burned out, according to Awards of Happiness' Organizational Happiness 2021 study. At the same time, this proportion of people feel that their employer values their work based on the hours they spend online.
In this context, it is important to mention that meetings are productive when the topic and objectives are well defined, but there are other factors that should be considered in order not to overuse them. Here we share with you some recommendations you should consider before organizing a meeting:
Justified meetings
Business meetings only make sense if there is a reason to justify them, and the person organizing the meeting should plan a work agenda and send it to the attendees in advance so that they do not arrive or leave empty-handed.
Setting an objective
The first rule for an efficient meeting is, precisely, to set an objective, i.e., what we want to solve today, and to be very clear that the meeting will be focused on solving a specific point. People tend to digress in meetings; focusing on any word mentioned, they start to deal with other issues unrelated to the meeting’s subject and objective, wasting productive time. However, in order not to discard any other point mentioned during the meeting, it is convenient to make what we call a "parking lot", that is, to write down on a flipchart as pending all those issues mentioned in the meeting but which do not have to do with the meeting’s objective, to review them at another time, and return immediately to the main topic.
If those additional issues arisen are of sufficient urgency and importance, then another meeting is scheduled to resolve them.
Assigning a “Timekeeper”
That is, assigning a person who manages the time and prevents participants from deviating from the central topic of the meeting. He/she is the one who makes notes in the "parking lot" and leads attendees, at all times, to the original topic of the meeting.
Drafting a minute
It is important to assign a person who will prepare a minute after the meeting which considers the agreements that have been established, under the following parameters: who will do what, when and how it will be followed up.
We know it is difficult to control each and every one of these aspects, especially when it comes to virtual meetings where distractions are within everyone's reach, but we are sure that as long as managers and participants follow up on the commitments established, and as long as they make consensual decisions and define actions to be taken, the perception that meetings are a waste of time will change until they are understood as true, valuable business strategies.
We hope these tips will be useful for you and your team. See you in our next edition!
