WINNER DAME 2013: Sleipner Motor, Norway “A major challenge when launching a revolutionary product like the VECTOR FIN stabilizers, where the benefits are big while the innovation can appear to be quite simple, is to get customers to actually believe that the benefits are really so substantial. Winning the DAME Award lends a lot of credibility to the benefits being real, avoiding the sometimes difficult task to make all interested customers fully understand all the physics in detail. This is especially so because of the high level of knowledge, experience and respect held by the excellent panel of judges for the DAME Award. The increased press coverage enjoyed by winning the DAME Award is very beneficial especially when the product is also aimed for new market areas, like the VECTOR FIN stabilizers are. With the benefits introduced enabling smaller boats than ever having good stabilization, the strong press coverage is very important to inform the wider audience of boat owners of the benefits and technologies now available to them.” Ronny Skauen, Managing Director of Sleipner Motor

Each year the registration fee of € 150.00 for a DAME entry is donated to a charity. Since 2005 Amsterdam RAI supports AMREF Flying Doctors. Therefore AMREF is appointed as DAME charity by the Exhibition Committee, for every even year. Every other year all international marine related charities are invited to apply. Clean water, healthy Masai in Kajiado In Kajiado (Kenya) Amref Flying Doctors, supported by Amsterdam RAI, provides for better access to sustainable clean (drinking) water and less water, sanitation and hygiene related diseases. The Kajiado district in the Kenyan part of the Rift Valley is a dry area with few sources of safe drinking water. The region is inhabited by the nomadic Masai, who travel around with their cattle. The lack of safe water and knowledge about hygiene causes many diseases, especially among (pregnant) women and young children. Due to a misuse of natural resources is also the traditional way of life of the population threatened. Aim for the Masai This project focuses on a reduction in the number of water-related diseases with the Masai by improving access to safe drinking water and sanitation. With this project, approximately 50,000 people will have access to safe water. Approximately 16,500 people will have access to sanitation and these people will also be informed about the importance of good personal hygiene. Last year €17,250.00 was raised for Foundation Sailability the Netherlands and Freedom Waters Foundation.
