WELCOME TO THE ICOMIA WORLD MARINAS CONFERENCE 2016 Dear Conference Delegate, ICOMIA is especially proud to present the 9th ICOMIA World Marinas Conference being held in Amsterdam – the venue of the first ever Conference held 23 years ago. Our last IWMC was held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2014 and following this conference the next IWMC will be held in Auckland, New Zealand in 2018. The leading light in ensuring successful future developments of marina facilities around the globe, IWMC is the key initiative of the ICOMIA Marinas Group (IMG) – and I would like to congratulate and thank IMG and our hosts HISWA Holland Marine Industry for preparing such an interesting and relevant conference for us all again this year. WELCOME

Welcome to Amsterdam, the founder of the leisure marine industry. It’s impossible to overestimate the importance of Dutch heritage to the leisure marine industry. Our international orientation in the maritime world dates back to the Golden Age of the 1600s when half of all Europe’s trade was transported by ships from the Netherlands. The first wealthy individual to be presented with a ‘superyacht’ was the British monarch Charles II. Holland is the ‘Land of Water’ with more than 10,000 kilometers of inland waterways suitable for navigation. Almost 25% of all marinas in Europe are situated in the Netherlands and more than 4,000 companies are active in leisure, production and trade within the recreational marine and watersport industry. We are very happy to host industry professionals and academics to investigate ‘The future of marinas in a changing world’ and together explore the state of the global marina industry and emerging markets.

The route will include passing one of the well-known Dutch dykes which divides the two largest freshwater lakes. WELCOME

For almost a quarter of a century, the ICOMIA Marinas Group (IMG) has sought to improve the sharing and exchange of information with respect to the development and best practice management of marinas, boat storage facilities, boating access and associated infrastructure throughout the world. Within the membership of IMG are many professionals possessing a wealth of knowledge and expertise. As the key initiative of the IMG Outreach and Support Programme, every second year the Group organises and presents its major industry event, the ICOMIA World Marinas Conference. The 2016 conference programme comprises a unique and intriguing blend of topics. We will learn about and debate the global state of marina business with the leaders of our industry, whilst speakers from the emerging markets – the Eastern Med, Black Sea/Middle East, Russia, Asia and South America will give insights into their evolving industries.

In the breakout sessions, marina operators will learn about operational and environmental best practice, ideas to maximise revenue, risk, liability and the tourism market. Those more interested in marina development will learn about masterplanning and the site selection process, as well as learning about designs for superyacht facilities, environmental issues, how public-private partnership finances works, pricing marinas through marina valuation and much more. In a world that is getting smaller, the global marina community finds in the conference the opportunity to better understand the international boating market and its trends. In addition the marinas tour offers the opportunity to discuss typical marina issues on site; learning directly from the long tradition and attitude of innovation developed in the Netherlands. "Pontoons designed to stand up to extreme conditions" When I met the manager of Poralu Marine, North America, what I liked was that he understood my concerns immediately. In Quebec, the range of temperature between winter and summer is immense. The pontoons are immersed in water (I should say in ice!) all through the winter!… The mechanical stresses are therefore extreme. In spring, when I opened the marina to the public, the pontoons, catwalks and bridges were in perfect condition. The marina was ready to welcome users in less than a day of preparation. Day One of the Conference will end with an optional Welcoming Dinner at the Harbour Club, a unique location in Amsterdam, to network and celebrate in style. From the RAI Harbour we start with a canal boat tour through Amsterdam. After disembarking, an exclusive four-course dinner accompanied with excellent wines will be served at the Harbour Club. Parking The parking rate at the RAI Amsterdam garage and the car parks around RAI Amsterdam are € 17.50 (incl VAT) per visit. The parking garage is open 24 hours a day. Smoking Prohibited As a result of the European Tobacco Legislation, RAI Amsterdam is smoke-free. For the convenience of smokers, RAI Amsterdam has arranged smoking areas in several outdoor locations. Outside the entrances are smoking columns. Badges While on the RAI premises it is mandatory to wear your badge at all times for safety and security reasons.

Business Centre This self-service Business Centre is open 24 hours a day and is equipped with on-line PC’s, telephones, a fax machine and a photocopier. The Business Centre is located in the Passage, access via entrance D. It is normally opened at regular exhibition and conference times. Photographs It is not permitted to photograph, film, or video record any stands or exhibits on the exhibition floor or conference halls unless the exhibitor in question or organisers have given their permission. Special arrangements apply to press and stand photographers. First Aid – Fire Service – Security RAI Amsterdam has an external and internal emergency number for First Aid, Fire Services and Security. An emergency call can be made to +31 (0)20 549 1234 or at one of the internal telephones in the RAI building to number 1234. The call will be handled by a security officer who will take the appropriate action. Public Transportation RAI Amsterdam has an excellent connection to the city’s tram, metro and bus network. Tram 4 stops right in front of the RAI and will take you into the heart of Amsterdam. In the tram and in the bus you can buy a 1-hour ticket. The ticket is also available at the GVB Tickets & Info counters and from the ticket vending machines in the metro stations. With this ticket you can travel for one hour on all GVB tram-, bus- and metro lines. Taxi Any taxi company can bring you to RAI Amsterdam. Only taxis operated by the company TCA can pick you up at the RAI, however. Tips and service charges The tip is not mandatory but in general is 10-15% of the bill.
