Welcome
to Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018! Intertraffic Amsterdam, launched in 1972, has become the world leading event for infrastructure, traffic management, safety, parking and smart mobility. You don’t need to take my word for that. Look at the facts. Why else, as this preview went to press, would visitors from 132 countries have already registered to attend this event, being held from 20-23 March? Why have over 800 companies, from 47 countries, chosen Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 to showcase their latest solutions, products and services with hundreds of major launches? Why will well over 30,000 visitors attend the event? The answer is simple: Intertraffic Amsterdam is the platform of choice for professionals from around the world to meet. It is where they come to do business and get up to speed on the very latest developments in the fast-changing fields of infrastructure, traffic management, safety, parking and smart mobility. It is where world-leading companies and stakeholders demonstrate their latest solutions during the four-day exhibition, held over 13 halls, with a focus on personal encounters. Intertraffic Amsterdam also provides a unique learning opportunity on the growing mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Consider this: at the last Intertraffic event in 2016, more than 4,700 visitors attended the Smart Mobility Theatres. It is the ultimate meeting place for smart mobility pioneers and innovators to discuss the mobility of the future on panels, in debates and in inspiring keynote speeches. And this year’s event will provide an even more comprehensive programme of learning opportunities to inform and inspire you with interactive theatre sessions and presentations in two Smart Mobility Theatres in Hall 8 and at the Intertraffic On Stage Programme in Hall 7. Again, don’t take my word for it: check out the programme, and the wide range of topics being covered, on pages 16 and 17 of this preview magazine. It is also worth pointing out that Intertraffic Amsterdam is very much a hands-on place where you can not only see and learn about the latest developments in mobility but also experience them firsthand through demonstrations in the exhibition halls, outside the RAI Centre and through driving experiences on the roads of Amsterdam. Intertraffic Amsterdam is also all about innovation:
the now well-established Intertraffic Innovation Awards have become a key feature of the event and this year is no exception. The finalists in each category are featured in this preview and the winners will be announced on the opening day of the event. Watch out, too, for some new features this year: Don’t miss ITSUP – the brand new Intertraffic Startup event in Hall 9 featuring the new kids on the block, and make sure you visit the Intertraffic Community Hub in the Elicium Centre (Hall 13) to catch up with peers and get fully up to speed on the latest Intertraffic news. As you can see, Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 is packed with features and content, as well as opportunities, so, can you really afford to miss it? This preview Supplement, prepared in collaboration with ITS International and World Highways, will provide you with a flavour of what Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 has to offer. Make sure you register online by 12 March to enjoy free access to everything that Intertraffic has to offer. After that date fees are applicable, although invitations extended by exhibitors enable free registration at all times. Visit www.intertraffic.com now and register and we will keep you informed by email about the latest developments in the run-up to the show. The Intertraffic team looks forward to welcoming you here from 20-23 March.

Hotels and more
Amsterdam is one of Europe’s most appealing and charming cities with a rich cultural heritage and a diverse and creative culture. Its strongest asset is its people - multilingual, relaxed, fun-loving and welcoming. Seeing, enjoying and experiencing Amsterdam couldn’t be easier. The main part of the city, teeming with sights, restaurants, cafés, bars and nightlife, is compact and easily within walking distance. Or you can get around by a highly efficient public transport system (buses, trams and by boat on the canals), or one of the mainstays of personal mobility with which Amsterdam is synonymous - the bicycle! Amsterdam is one of the most liberal cities in the world. So after your time at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018, when you want to relax, this vibrant city offers a vast array of culture, history, art (for instance, the Rijksmuseum with the largest collection of Dutch masters) and exciting nightlife to suit any taste.
Wherever in the world you are, making arrangements to visit Intertraffic 2018 couldn’t be easier! For accommodation and travel, the smart solution is to turn to the experts - Amsterdam RAI Hotel & Travel Service which has carefully selected hotels near the RAI and in the city centre to suit every taste and budget. It can offer the lowest available rates. And, since the service is officially appointed by Intertraffic, you’ll be using hotels with other event visitors, increasing your networking opportunities. A word of warning, though! Hotel rooms are in great demand during Intertraffic, so make sure you book in time. Visit www.rai.nl/hotelservice today to check out available hotels. You can search for accommodation by star rating and area, view a map showing the location in relation to Amsterdam RAI, and find detailed information about each hotel, including facilities and photos. When you’ve made your choice, use the online reservation system. The RAI Hotel & Travel Service can also provide you with air travel to and from Amsterdam, car rental, excursions in and around the city, as well as airport transfers. www.rai.nl/hotelservice.
Intertraffic 2018 venue The home of Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 is Amsterdam RAI which is only ten minutes from Schiphol International Airport. The venue has its own train station and is well served by trams and other public transport. Tram 4 stops right in front of the RAI and will also take you into the heart of Amsterdam. The RAI, which has a large underground car park, is situated alongside Amsterdam’s A10 ring motorway (exit S109).Surrounded by a park, pavement cafés and restaurants, the RAI Exhibition and Congress Centre is just a few minutes away from the heart of Amsterdam, with its lovely canals and countless attractions.

Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018
Innovation Awards finalists Smart and innovative thinking will again be awarded at the world’s largest, and best attended, trade event for the infrastructure, traffic management, safety, parking, and smart mobility sectors, when the winners of the 2018 Intertraffic Innovation Awards are announced on 20 March during the opening ceremony. Out of well over 60 high-quality entries this year, an international jury has, after careful analysis and intense consideration, narrowed the field down to the final 15 – leaving three nominees in each of the five categories: infrastructure,
traffic management, safety, parking, and smart mobility. Entries were judged on originality and innovative value, practicality in terms of technical and/or economic feasibility, sustainability and design. The jury will reconvene just before Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 to choose a winner in each category. One of these category winners will then be selected as the overall winner of the 2018 Intertraffic Innovation Award and the presentations will be made during the opening ceremony of Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018.

Judge’s comment: Evolution rather than revolution was a major theme of the entries in the Infrastructure category this year. On display were a number of more refined ways of performing existing tasks, with smart uses of technology. A couple of entries stood out for their imagination, apparent simplicity and technical verve, with environmental considerations strongly to the fore.

PARKING CATEGORY Self-powered Parking Sensor PARKHERE, GERMANY Parking sensors register whether a car is parked in a spot. This is the first parking sensor that doesn’t need any kind of external supply. It uses kinetic energy-harvesting to produce the energy it needs to send a signal to the base station which forwards the data to a cloud server. This solves the most pressing issue for parking sensors: power. Furthermore, the possibility to inform drivers of the size of a parking space on-street meets the current demands of cities to optimise the available space for different car sizes. Stand 07.410 www.park-here.eu
ITS/TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT CATEGORY Sprinx Traffic AID SPRINX TECHNOLOGIES, ITALY Based on innovative 3D tracking technology, Sprinx Traffic AID running on-board Hanwha Techwin Wisenet X cameras, has significantly enhanced the ability to detect incidents and keep traffic on the move. It offers distinctive advantages over normal cameras by performing not just image capture but also image analysis and event detection, turning a standard CCTV camera into a smart CCTV camera for professional traffic systems. Stand 12.316 www.sprinxtech.com
The Urban Mobility Control Management Hub (Paris) PARKNOW, PARKMOBILE GROUP, THE NETHERLANDS ParkNow has delivered an integrated parking ecosystem for Paris with its new urban mobility control management and parking system. The total digitisation of parking combines cashless apps, parking meters, permits and enforcement data to optimise traffic flow. It processes penalties and helps reduce emissions during ‘pollution days’ via dynamic pricing. A unified on-demand dashboard provides hands-on control for a real smart city.Stand 02.105 www.park-now.com
Signs to Lines TRO Mapping APPYPARKING, UK Signs to Lines Mapping is the latest technology that creates the world’s most accurate map of all the paint on the street related to traffic and parking management. These regulatory maps are required by law to be kept up to date by local authorities. The Signs to Lines mapping technology uses a combination of stateof-the-art vehicle-mounted Lidar scanners, photography, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Imapark
Judge’s comment:
SERNIS TECNOLOGIC SOLUTIONS, PORTUGAL Imapark is an on-street intelligent parking management system that helps drivers find and pre-reserve a free parking space on public roads more quickly, using sensors, road studs, electronic displays and a mobile app. In the app it is possible to visualise, in real time, parking spots available, reserve parking space for a certain time and pay for the service. Stand 01.336 www.sernis.com
Judge’s comment: The need for smart cities has led the parking industry to what is perhaps one of its most innovative moments in history. The participants of the Intertraffic Amsterdam Innovation Award 2018 represent the need for smart cities, for clean cities, for cities that meet the demands of the 21st century.

Citix-3D ECO-COUNTER, FRANCE Citix-3D, Eco-Counter’s latest innovation, is a wide-range counter capable of automatically counting and differentiating pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles simultaneously. Its advanced technology is the result of five years of research and development in partnership with top European research organisation, CEA. Stand 12.328 www.eco-compteur.com
The trend for increasingly multifunctional systems was evident in the strongest entries in the Traffic Management category. In the past multiple devices were required, each performing a single function. Now, smarter hardware is being built that can perform multiple tasks; and smart software is being developed to turn simple cameras into advanced systems.

SR-90
EASYPARK GROUP, SWEDEN
SERNIS TECNOLOGIC SOLUTIONS, PORTUGAL SR-90 is an intelligent system for the physical speed reduction of vehicles in controlled speed zones, for instance in the vicinity of pedestrian crossings. It works with hard-wired road studs with two levels of elevation from the ground and corresponding LED signals which are controlled electronically. The speed control measures are the result of an intelligent algorithm. The level of elevation and the colour of the LEDs will change, depending on the speed at which the car approaches the control area. Stand 01.336 www.sernis.com
The EasyPark Find&Pay app is the first of its kind in the world to offer payment and turnby-turn navigation directly to find available parking, both on- and off-street. The service is based on millions of data-points that together form an algorithm that calculates the optimal route to find available parking as close as possible to a user’s final destination. Stand 02.312 www.easyparkgroup.com
Judge’s comment: This year’s Intertraffic Amsterdam Innovation Award competition saw a very high number of entries in the Safety category. Many constitute important improvements of existing products, whilst others could be labelled ‘cross-overs’ as they incorporate smart traffic elements. The nominees include a non-threatening, easyto-operate radar device that can be used in community traffic safety efforts, a dynamic system to provide safe speeds for crossing pedestrians, and a next-generation Lidar smart camera.
This year we had fewer entries in the Smart Mobility category compared to previous years. However, it is obvious that we see more smartness in traditional categories resulting in three nominees with excellent propositions in the field of parking and infrastructure. We have two in smart parking, one vertical integrated in-dash, excellent safe HMI, and one horizontal parking app installed on smart phones and, therefore, with a huge number of installs potential. The third nominee is a perfect application for smart phone-enabled smooth, green light cycling while approaching signalled crossings.

Kapsch to focus on integrated mobility solutions Kapsch, a world-leading company in meeting the challenges of traffic and mobility management, will display at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 its latest products and services innovations, and highlight its integrated mobility solutions related to smart, safe and sustainable mobility for cities, highways and tunnels. The company believes the time has come to consider city mobility as a truly global topic, integrating mobility across all transport means and stakeholders, and considering end-to-end mobility of citizens as an objective. To get that message across, Kapsch will stage a live demonstration
of how Kapsch can connect Mobility as a Service (MaaS) to the entire ITS landscape, and merge real-time traffic, parking, and connected vehicle data into mobility applications at your fingertips. Kapsch says that with its new tolling game-changer it is going smaller and smarter on highways, too. The company has equipped its innovative single gantry with new sensors to combine the functionality of video detection, a classification system, ANPR front/rear cameras and illumination. All of this is hosted in one package with a very small footprint and overall weight, which also reduces the cost of ownership considerably.
For video tolling, this is all that is needed: for a DSRC installation, just add the transceiver antenna. Tunnels are a very vulnerable point of any roadway system so Kapsch is inviting visitors to stop by and learn more about its scalable, integrated traffic and operations management solution. This system has been selected by Highways England and Rijkswaterstaat for the Charm Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP project due to its proven track record for mission critical advanced traffic management system applications. Berghaus ProTec family is now a system For over 20 years, Germany-headquartered Peter Berghaus has been known for its mobile crash barriers for work zones. At this year’s Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018, visitors to the company’s stand will see the result of continued development with the Berghaus ProTec family that has resulted in its mobile crash barrier becoming a system. As the company points out, road construction projects today make far more demands of mobile road restraint systems than just containment level and effective range. Crash barrier systems need to have a wide range of possible uses that always offer safe, practical solutions, even for unforeseen situations. Initially, Berghaus focused on developing and using mobile crash barriers made of

steel. This was followed soon after by a clever combination of steel and concrete, resulting in the first ProTec crash barrier to be successfully tested to the European standard DIN EN 13172. Over the years, various advancements and development phases have resulted in a product line which Berghaus today refers to as the ProTec family: mobile crash barriers that have grown into a unique system solution with precise combinations and force-fit connections. The ProTec system combines outstanding containment level and effective range values with minimum impact on passengers in the event of a collision with the mobile road restraint elements.

We’re on the cusp of connected roads becoming a reality. So what will the world look like then? Visitors to the 3M stand at Intertraffic Amsterdam will be able to experience the future through two virtual reality (VR) installations. The 3M Connected Roads programme will enable visitors to immerse themselves in a VR world that will provide a glimpse into what the future of roadway infrastructure could look like, and the concepts being developed. The goal of the programme is to help facilitate the long-term transition to connected automated vehicles by providing simplicity and adding redundancy. Meanwhile, the Safer Roads Experience, which will also use VR, will provide users with a chance to see the difference retroreflective materials can make for safer roadways by improving visibility of lane markings in wet and dry weather conditions; or with signs that can be seen any time of day or night; or by creating safe navigation for construction work zones, along with a host of other applications. 3M says these two programmes are an example of how the company is fully
See into the future on the 3M stand focused on improving safety for the driver of today as well as creating an infrastructure system that enhances current roadway design and allows smart vehicles to connect with the environment around them. Also at Intertraffic, 3M will highlight the future of printing, delivered today, and feature the latest technology to meet customers’ business
goals, no matter the size or the need. This will include the full breadth of solutions for roadway safety from reflective sign sheeting for both permanent and temporary applications, to wet reflective pavement markings, to vehicle conspicuity and licence plate technology. Revolutionary innovations in PGS from Schick Schick Electronic says it is surfing on the wave of technical evolution by launching a new generation of camera-based products for Parking Guidance Systems (PGS) at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018. The SP4-C Outdoor Camera System is a new solution that relies on state-of-the art artificial intelligence technology. One camera can monitor dozens of spaces and, as the system is based on standard Ethernet technology, it can easily be scaled to thousands of spaces. The cameras transmit still images to a central computer on which the detection software runs. This topology allows for integration of standard shell cameras, which are easy to install and to set up. Moreover, the
26
costs of installation and of ownership are reduced compared to traditional solutions. Meanwhile, the SP4-C Indoor Camera System is also based on artificial intelligence technology and adds a new ground-breaking detection feature: plate recognition. This allows for the implementation of new services, like space reservations and a lost and found vehicle service. One camera can monitor up to six parking spaces and is easily interconnected to the other cameras in the Ethernet network. This means reduced costs of installation and ownership. Siemens making complex tasks simple Siemens’ presence at Intertraffic Amsterdam always involves an array of technologies and systems across a broad range of traffic and transport disciplines and this year will be no exception. As the company points out, it is digitalisation that revolutionises traffic. A good example is the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) in urban infrastructure which is gaining traction and, in the future, it will be the digital presence that counts. Siemens is pioneering the ‘mobility revolution’ with products that make complex tasks simple by using the data to make the most of existing infrastructure. Innovative products can be combined to create one intelligent, modular solution that supports traffic systems to enable them to act instead of react. One example is software-enabled premium hardware, such as the sX Controller. The sX combines ultra-modern hardware and innovative software, a combination that provides future-proof solutions for traffic. The new Sitraffic sX traffic controller, which will be featured
at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018, is easy to operate via the Internet and is setting new standards with its lean structure, easy configuration and unparalleled userfriendliness. Siemens will also use Intertraffic to unveil the Sicore II, the next generation of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) camera. It is designed for high-speed, free-flow environments in
all weather conditions. Whether used for average speed control, low emission zones or access control, Siemens says the Sicore II delivers outstanding results in all conditions. Efficient fleet management is another key element for modern mobility infrastructure. Siemens will be demonstrating how the challenges can be handled efficiently via IQ-Traffic, Falcon, Stream, SiBike, and Enforcement. Meanwhile, Siemens ITS Digital Lab develops data-driven applications and services on MindSphere to help solve mobility challenges, such as fleet management, for example for bikesharing. The company will also be demonstrating how it makes intermodal travel easy. With the solutions of Siemens, HaCon and VMZ, integrated mobility improves passenger experience and helps travel to become easier and more comfortable, even across different modes of transportation. PARKHERE LOOKS TO THE FUTURE ParkHere is launching currently new products to simplify the parking process for car drivers and car park operators which the company will feature at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018. Last year, the German start-up focused on the self-powered parking sensor. The company will now provide its customers a complete software and hardware solution from a single source to administer their parking management. The core product is and remains the sensor, which is embedded in the parking area. A car driving over the sensors generates an impulse in the installed energy-harvesting module.
The resulting energy is sufficient to transmit the information via mobile phone network to the server. The data is then analysed and made available to customers via web app or dashboards. It is no longer necessary to draw a ticket, because payment then runs on a smartphone. Electronic paper signs and selfpowered parking hangers supplement ParkHere’s portfolio. The self-powered signs allow dynamic parking space reservation. The parking hanger physically blocks the parking lot and is controlled by the app or dashboard.

AGD traffic and pedestrian control Radar detection specialist AGD Systems will use Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 to showcase its traffic and pedestrian control solutions which include the new large-zone, IP-capable, realtime video 645 Pedestrian Detector and the 318 and 350 traffic control radars. Designed for the smart city, these ITS products all deliver ease of deployment, integration and setup to allow maximum flexibility for evolving traffic models. User communication with these traffic and pedestrian control devices is wireless, making deployment easy and setup simple. All three products employ WiFi or the Bluetooth AGD Touch-setup for quick configuration and zone or loop optimisation. AGD says that extensive regional testing of the large-zone 645 Pedestrian Detector on extended pedestrian zones has shown very high detection performance where there are high densities of crossing pedestrians. The 645 radar delivers real-time video and its IP capability allows control rooms to receive the information
they need to ensure optimal performance. The company says the future is IP-driven because it allows control rooms to interrogate devices and make real-time changes on the street. The new multi-lane, multi-loop replacing 350 Traffic Control Radar with stationary detection perfectly complements AGD’s 318 Traffic Control Radar. Both will deliver highly effective local traffic implementations in either single or multi-lane environments. According to AGD, these next-generation ITS solutions make intrusive, costly detection a thing of the past, saving local authorities substantially in terms of installation and through-life costs. The company says it is one of the world’s most successful manufacturers of ITS products, delivering smart solutions for traffic initiatives everywhere. Headquartered in the UK, AGD has an Australian subsidiary, and distributors in EMEA, Asia Pacific and the Americas. Stand 10.102 www.agd-systems.com

TRUVELO CUTS ENFORCEMENT COSTS Class-leading performance and cost savings are two of the prime themes for enforcement specialist Truvelo at this year’s Intertraffic Amsterdam. In particular, changes to the D-Cam P speed/red light enforcement system have resulted in a more cost-efficient Type-Approved solution, the benefits of which are ready to be passed on to the customer. “D-Cam P now uses the square-section IntegraPost which replaces the previous round-section mounting,” says Calvin Hutt, sales and marketing director with Truvelo (UK). “Although it is a relatively minor change, it takes advantage of a solution which is more widely used within the enforcement
Delta to highlight RetroSign GRX
Delta will, as usual, be present at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 showing and demonstrating its range of retroreflectometer instruments. Since the last event, the company has launched RetroSign GRX, its third-generation instrument for measuring retroreflection of
road traffic signs, high visibility clothing, conspicuity tapes and number plates. RetroSign GRX is able to measure up to seven observation angles simultaneously, up to eight entrance angles using smart adapters, and offers many
new features like automatic detection of sign colour, picture of sign, sign colour contrast, sign orientation and tilt, built-in measurement structure and instant pass-fail function. Delta says the RetroSign GRX is the superior instrument in the market, offering more features than any other road traffic sign retroreflectometer, yet still it is very easy to calibrate and operate. Data is processed and presented in existing software like Excel and Google Earth. Besides RetroSign GRX, Delta will feature its other well-known instruments like the LTL-M, the marketleading mobile marking retroreflectometer, LTL-XL and LTL-X Mark II hand-held marking instruments and Marking Thickness Gauge. The company also plans to unveil a first version of a new measurement device on its stand. Stand 05.333 www.roadsensors.com

sector. The economies of scale mean less expense for procuring authorities. The new IntegraFlash mounts the illumination source above a D-Cam camera on the same post, saving the cost of installing a second post and power supply. It increases siting flexibility and is aesthetically more pleasing. A single post allows more constrained road geometries to be accommodated; it also increases safety by keeping lines of sight clearer and reduces the visual impact of enforcement installations. As Hutt points out, both of these are very important factors, especially in urban areas.
Kistler will use Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 to launch the KiTraffic WIM systems which serve a number of traffic and road monitoring applications, including gathering traffic data, collecting toll fees, protecting road infrastructure, and detecting vehicle overloading. These systems make use of compact and maintenance-free Lineas sensors that are integrated into the road itself and can be adjusted, based on the road material. The systems monitor vehicles at varying speeds and on virtually infinite numbers of lanes, as well as in a range of environmental conditions. With KiTraffic Plus, road owners and operators can accurately detect and identify overloaded vehicles. This solution collects all relevant vehicle weight and identification data and can be used to make weight enforcement
more effective and to calculate fees based on vehicle weight. Additionally, the new KiTraffic Statistics, based on the new Lineas Compact sensors, provides a very robust system to collect vehicle and axle weight data, helping authorities and operators to optimise their price-performance-ratio and to determine the best road maintenance intervals. On the services side, Kistler’s road analysis and assisted calibration services ensure that customers get the most out of their WIM solution. The company’s experienced engineers not only help to determine the optimal position for sensors on any given road, they also provide support on how to correctly implement truck calibration over the phone, by mail or onsite.

Dynniq’s flow experience comes to life
Dynniq, which offers integrated mobility, parking and energy solutions and services, will feature new innovations at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018, which will be presented through a unique virutal reality (VR) experience and several highly engaging talks and workshops. The Dynniq CrossCycle is an app that provides extra services to cyclists. Cyclists approaching a traffic light are detected earlier than at the stop bar, when they would be able to push the button. It means an individual cyclist has a higher chance of getting green while groups of cyclists will get priority as a whole.
Meanwhile, the Dynniq CrossWalk app helps the elderly or people with a handicap to cross the road safely by turning the light green for longer. This innovative technology based on GPS localisation makes it possible to align the duration of the green pedestrian traffic light with individual needs. or civil security - complete the portfolio of tools needed for recording and evaluating collected data. Jenoptik will provide visitors with a deep impression and experience of its highly advanced Essa software. This is capable of receiving, processing and storing over six million reads per day, matching those against various hotlists or evaluating moving patterns, in real-time, and sending alerts in case of action required. Applied like the company’s other bulk thermoplastic road marking materials, Geveko says the special formulation of ViaTherm Viking makes its adhesion to the road stronger over time, even if the initial adhesion is affected by moisture. As a result, the material can be applied even when there is light moisture on the asphalt. (The company defines ‘moist’ as when there is no free-flowing water on top of the surface or in the surface pores.) ViaTherm Viking has been tested on Nordic road trials in Sweden and Denmark, producing good results for adhesion and functional performance. In real life, the material has been successfully applied for more than four years in the Nordic region. Stand 05.247/8 www.geveko.com
WORLD LAUNCH BY LECTOR VISION Lector Vision, an international specialist in artificial vision that enables a wide range of applications in the traffic and transport sector, will use Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 for the world launch of two innovative new products – the Cube camera and Traffic Guard, a ground-breaking software analytics development that was funded by the Spanish government. The company’s Cube camera was developed in-house at Lector Vision’s Madrid headquarters and has a wide range of applications, including tolling control, car parking and traffic monitoring. It combines the advantages of machine vision cameras and IP cameras; has a top-performing Sony CMOS
sensor; motorised lenses; RAW image processing; advanced on-board OCR processing; and full camera control, including digital inputs and outputs. The Cube camera has three H264 video channels per camera so that, for instance, one channel can undertake OCR while the other two channels can send the video signal, in real time, to a different control centre. Lector Vision’s groundbreaking Traffic Guard analytics software system, development of which was financed by CDTI (Spanish Ministry of Economy), can detect vehicles or objects, and follow them into the image, capturing a range of user-defined different parameters. The system can thus autonomously monitor, control, classify and define alerts for an array of different behaviours on the road.

Flir to showcase dual vision and C-ITS technology Flir ITS will use Intertraffic Amsterdam 2018 to showcase Dual Vision Technology (DVT), combining best-in-class thermal imaging detection and HD visual imaging to provide a complete traffic monitoring solution for road and tunnel operators. Moreover, DVT has the exceptional functionality of detecting fire at an early stage, together with see-through-smoke capabilities. Flir’s C-ITS technology promises major benefits in mobility applications, such as traffic signal priority for public transport and emergency vehicles. The company’s thermal imaging detector with embedded V2X (vehicleto-everything) technology enables intersections with V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure) capabilities and connects vehicles to traffic signals. This allows the rapid movement of priority vehicles in urban arterials by serving the queue at the stop bar when a priority vehicle is detected. Next to that, by detecting vulnerable road users and broadcasting a warning message to approaching vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists can be brought into the V2X communication system.
Also being highlighted at Intertraffic will be a range of detection and monitoring solutions to help traffic and public transportation authorities to manage their traffic flows efficiently. Based on detection technology proven for more than 25 years, Flir will showcase hardware and software solutions that help detect motorists, cyclists and pedestrians in urban environments; detect incidents on highways and fire in tunnels; collect traffic data; ensure safety on rail tracks, tunnels and platforms; and provide on-board passenger compartments.
