ARTIST INTERVIEW
Artist Talk:
There is a difference between art schools and others. People choose to go to art school because they are passionate about art. As it is for passion, they give more time, put in more effort/. Without the need to support, they’ve been trying so hard on their own and also very active in learning. I personally love such kind of environment Motivation comes mostly from fellow students rather than the other sources. That is one of the things I liked most about going to an art school.
The school mainly focuses on conceptual thinking. Whether it is a good art work or not, it mainly depends on the concept behind the visuals. They have critique sessions, talks and workshops which are really useful in improving our art practice. It is important that we produce works with a strong concept. Students have to have enough knowledge for the discussions about the works by doing research, working with the people from the related fields.
At first, I didn’t plan on working on pop surreal works. It all started from the moment when I noticed myself that I can easily get bored of everything. One time, I lived in a very crowded area where all I see everyday is just humans. They are mostly my neighbors, students passing by, street vendors and so on. I stared drawing different shapes and heads on those people I see from my window. It made me feel comfortable again. And the other thing I draw is animals. I always wanted to be a painter and an animal behaviorist who does animal conservation. Recently, I am trying to relate those two. I’ve been studying animal behavior, taking care of stray animals in town as much as I can and trying to put their stories in my art works.

သင္းလဲ့ႏြယ္ ၏ Part Illusion
အနုပညာေက်ာင္းေတြမွာ တျခားေက်ာင္းေတြနဲ႔ မတူတာတစ္ခုက ေက်ာင္းသားေတြက ကိုယ့္ဘာသာေရြးခ်ယ္ျပီး ေရာက္လာၾကတဲ့ လူေတြျဖစ္ေနတာပဲ။ ကိုယ္ႀကိဳက္လို႔ ေရြးခ်ယ္ထားတဲ့ အရာမို႔ အားလံုးက အရမ္း အခ်ိန္ေပးၾကတယ္ အရမ္း effort ထုတ္ၾကတယ္။ ဘာတြန္းအားေၾကာင့္မွ မဟုတ္ပဲ ႀကိဳက္တာ တစ္ခုထဲေၾကာင့္နဲ႔ ႀကိဳးစားၾကတယ္။ သင္ယူတဲ့ေနရာမွာ အရမ္းတက္ၾကြၾကတယ္။ ႏြယ္က အဲ့ဒီလို ပတ္ဝန္းက်င္မ်ိဳးကိုအရမ္းႀကိဳက္တယ္။ motivation က တျခားကေနရတာထက္ ကိုယ့္ အတန္းေဖာ္အခ်င္းခ်င္းဆီကရတာပိုမ်ားတယ္။ အနုပညာေက်ာင္းတက္ရတဲ့ထဲမွာ အဲ့ဒီအခ်က္ကို အႀကိဳက္ဆံုးပဲ။
သင္တာကေတာ့ ဒီဖက္ေခတ္မွာဆိုေတာ့ ဘာမွ ေထြေထြထူးထူးသိပ္မရွိပါဘူး။ self study သေဘာမ်ိဳး ပိုေရာက္တယ္ ကိုယ့္ဘာသာ ေလ့က်င့္သင္ယူေပါ့။ ေက်ာင္းက technical skill ကို ေလ့က်င့္ေပးတာထက္ conceptual ပိုင္းကိုပိုပီး practice လုပ္ခိုင္းတယ္။ လက္ရာေကာင္းမေကာင္းထက္ အဲ့ဒီလက္ရာေနာက္က concept behind the visual ကို ပို အေလးထားပါတယ္။ critic session ေတြ workshop ေတြ လုပ္ရတယ္ ကိုယ့္လက္ရာမွာ concept တခုမွ ပိုင္ပိုင္နိုင္နိုင္မျပနိုင္ရင္ စာေမးပြဲမေအာင္ဘူးဆိုတာမ်ိဳးေပါ့။ ဥပမာ ႏြယ္ တိရိစာၦန္ေတြနဲ႔ ပတ္သတ္တာ လုပ္တယ္ အေကာင္ပံုေလးေတြ ဆြဲေနလို႔မရတာမ်ိဳး ဘာအေၾကာင္းအရာလဲ ဘာေၾကာင့္လဲ ဘာကိုေျပာခ်င္တာလဲ ဆိုတာေတြ ေျပာနိုင္ဖို႔ အရင္ေလ့လာရပါတယ္ ခုေျပာတာေတြက အေျခခံေလာက္ပါ ဒီထက္ပို အေသးစိတ္ေလ့လာ ကိုယ္တိုင္ အလုပ္လုပ္ၾကည့္ သက္ဆိုင္ရာနယ္ပယ္ထဲက လူေတြဆီက ေလ့လာပီးမွ လုပ္ရပါတယ္။
တကယ္ေတာ့ pop surrealism ေရးမယ္လို႔ ရည္ရြယ္ထားတာ မရွိဘူး။ ႏြယ္က ျပသနာရွိတယ္ ျမင္ေနတဲ့အရာ ေတြကို ပ်င္းတာမ်ိဳး။ လူေတြဆိုလဲ လူအတိုင္းႀကီး ျမင္ေနရတာကို ပ်င္းလာတယ္။ ဘယ္နားၾကည့္ၾကည့္လူေတြပဲ ျမင္ရတဲ့ေနရာ မွာလဲ ေနမိတယ္။ အိမ္နီးနားခ်င္းေတြ အိမ္ေရွ႕ကျဖတ္သြားတဲ့ ေက်ာင္းသူေတြ။ သူတို႔ကို ေခါင္းေတြ ေျပာင္းတပ္ၾကည့္ရင္ ေနသာထိုင္သာရွိတယ္ ေပ်ာ္စရာေကာင္းလာတယ္။ အဲ့ဒီကေန စျဖစ္တာပါ။ ငယ္ငယ္တုန္းကတည္းက ပန္းခ်ီဆရာရယ္ တိရိစာၦန္ထိမ္းသိန္းေစာင့္ေရွာင့္ေရးလုပ္တဲ့လူရယ္ ျဖစ္ခ်င္တယ္။ အဲ့တာနဲ႔ ပတ္သတ္တာေတြလဲ လုပ္ျဖစ္တယ္ ပီးေတာ့ ခုေနာက္ပိုင္း အဲ့နွစ္ခုကို ဘယ္လိုဆက္စပ္ရမလဲ ႀကိဳးစားၾကည့္ေနပါတယ္။
ARTIST INTERVIEW
Q> What is the aim of 3 AM group and When did this start? A> 3 AM Performance Group participate with three artists, Ko Latt, Ma Ei and Yadanar Win. We wanted especially our Myanmar Art Scene to be concrete. Without dividing between young generation or old generation. There’s not much interest to gain in holding events. Especially when the young generation held exhibitions, older generations do not appreciate that.
As they believe, this is new because youngsters hosted them without having enough experience, etc. So, they (youths) are not being supported. Until now, those older generation people have mindsets brought from their past era. They are still not open-minded. Their era had limitations but our age has become very open, open-minded. Many went out to foreign countries, many outside countries came in. Workshops happening, so our generation got to get far-sighted.
Q> What is the point of this performance work? How do you make a collective? A> We accept feedback from the audience. We don’t say “this is what we want to show, so just watch this.” But, we put the concept into the work. Here, what is happening in Myanmar is discrimination between generations. So they painted themselves with gold to make each other rise in value. We use the book in the work. It means the education. Our old generation always said “read, read more.”
When we talk about culture here, the new generation happens to know the other countries culture because they’ve traveled abroad. So, they found out new ideas on how to mix the culture here. When we three work together, we feel the artwork gets stronger as there’s a combination of 3 different ideas. Here, many people stand individually. Although there are groups working together, they don’t last long. Later they separate.

ေမး... ဒီအဖြဲ႕ ဖြဲ႕ျဖစ္တဲ့အေၾကာင္းက ဘာလဲ၊ ဘယ္အခ်ိန္ကဖြဲ႕ျဖစ္ခဲ့သလဲ။ ေျဖ... 3AM Performance Group က ဆြိဒင္မွာ အႏုပညာျပပြဲသြားလုပ္ရင္း အတူတူပါေဖာမန္႔လုပ္ျဖစ္ျပီးဖြဲ႕ျဖစ္ၾကတာ။ အထူးသျဖင့္ ျမန္မာႏိုင္ငံရဲ႕ Art Scene ကို Concrete ျဖစ္ေစခ်င္တာ။ Young Generation တို႔ Old Generation တို႔မခြဲျခားပဲနဲေပါ့။ ပြဲေတြေတာ္ေတာ္မ်ားမ်ားလုပ္ရင္ Interest သိပ္မရွိဘူး၊ အထူးသျဖင့္ လူငယ္ေတြလုပ္ တဲ့ ပြဲေတြဆို Old generation ကလူေတြက Appreciate သိပ္မျဖစ္တာမ်ိဳး ဘာလို႔လဲဆို လူငယ္ေတြလုပ္ရင္ ဒါကအသစ္ေပါ့ သူတို႔ ရဲ႕ျဖတ္သန္းမႈကဘယ္ေလာက္မွလဲမၾကာ ေသးပဲနဲ႔ေပါ့။ ဒီေတာ့ သူတို႔လုပ္တဲ့ဟာဆို သိပ္အားမေပးၾကဘူး။ ခုထက္ထိရွိတုန္းပဲ အဲဒီ Old Generation ေတြမ်ိဳးေပါ့ သူတို႔ေခတ္ကသယ္လာခဲ့တဲ့ စိတ္ေပါ့၊ ခုထက္ထိ Open minded မျဖစ္ေသးတာ၊ သူတို႔ေခတ္တုန္းက က်ေနာ္တို႔ေခတ္ေလာက္ မလြယ္ဘူး၊ အခုက်ေနာ္တို႔ေခတ္က အရမ္း Open minded ျဖစ္လာတယ္၊ ႏိုင္ငံျခားေတြသြားၾကတယ္၊ ႏိုင္ငံျခားကလူေတြ ဒီကိုလာတယ္၊၀ပ္ေရွာ့ေတြဘာေတြ လုပ္တယ္၊ ဒီေတာ့ အခုက်ေနာ္တို႔ေခတ္ကမ်ိဳးဆက္က အျမင္ပိုက်ယ္လာတာေပါ့။
ေမး... အခု (၃)ေယာက္လုပ္တဲ့ ပါေဖာမန္႔ နဲ႔ပါတ္သက္ျပီး စုေပါင္းလုပ္ျဖစ္တဲ့အေၾကာင္း ေျပာပါဦး။ ေျဖ... ပရိသတ္ရဲ႕ Feedback ကိုပိုလိုခ်င္တာ၊ ကိုယ္ေျပာခ်င္တာကို ပရိသတ္ကို ငါတို႔ဒါျပတယ္ဒါၾကည့္ဆိုတာမ်ိဳးမဟုတ္ ဘူး၊ ဒါေပမယ့္ ကြန္းဆက္ေလးေတြေတာ့ထည့္ထားတာေပါ့။ က်ေနာ္တို႔ျမန္မာႏိုင္ငံမွာ တစ္ခုရွိတာက Generation ခ်င္း Discriminate လုပ္တာေပါ့၊ အဲဒါေၾကာင့္ ေရႊေရာင္ေတြသုတ္ျပီးတေယာက္ကိုတေယာက္ Value တန္းဖိုးျမွင့္တာေပါ့။ ေနာက္ပီး စာအုပ္သံုးထားတာက ပညာေရးကိုေျပာခ်င္တာ၊ က်ေနာ္တို႔ old generation ေတြက တစ္ခါတေလက်ေျပာတယ္ စာမ်ားမ်ား ဖတ္ပါ.. ေပါ့။ ျမန္မာႏိုင္ငံရဲ႕ Culture နဲ႔ပါတ္သက္ျပီးေျပာရရင္ ဒီမ်ိဳးဆက္ေတြမွာ အေနာက္တိုင္း သြားဖူးတဲ့လူဆိုရင္ သူတို႔ဆီက ယဥ္ေက်းမႈေတြသိလာတယ္၊ အဲဒီအခါမွာ ဒီကယဥ္ေက်းမႈနဲ႔ ဘယ္လိုေပါင္းလို႔ရမလဲ၊ အိုင္ဒီယာေတြအသစ္ျဖစ္တာေပါ့။
အခု ၃ ေယာက္လုပ္တဲ့အခါ ၃ ေယာက္အိုင္ဒီယာေတြေပါင္းထားေတာ့ Artwork ကပုိ အားေကာင္းတယ္လို႔ခံစားမိ တယ္။ ဒီမွာက Individual ရပ္တည္ၾကတာပဲ ပိုမ်ားတယ္။ တစ္ခါတေလ ဂရုဖ္လိုက္ဖြဲ႕လုပ္ေပမယ့္အၾကားၾကီးလက္တြဲမလုပ္ျဖစ္ ၾကဘူး၊ အခ်ိန္နဲနဲၾကာရင္ Separate ျဖစ္သြားတာပဲ။
