23rd Annual Old Salt and Bill Currie Ford Ladies Fishing Tournament Madeira Beach, FL. • August 11th and 13th - 2011 The Mission of the Old Salt and Bill Currie Ford Ladies Fishing Tournament was to involve more women in the wonderful sport of fishing with a fun competitive atmosphere while raising awareness and support for the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation and All Children’s Hospital. The event ended with a overwhelming, Mission Accomplished. The tournament drew 175 lady anglers from all around Tampa Bay and the State. Anglers, their friends and families came out to Madeira Beach Municipal Marina for the Captains Meeting, Thursday, August 11th. Everyone enjoyed the lively - party like ambience with food and drinks, a huge raffle and special auctions such as “Cut the Mayor’s Hair”, Mayor Travis Palladeno’s hair cutting which raised an astonishing $4,500. At the stroke of mid-night, Saturday August 13th lines hit the water and fishing began. The tournament ranged from inshore to offshore with species such as Red Grouper, Amberjack, Snapper, Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Sheepshead and Redfish (Photo Release). The Weigh-In, held from 4-5pm on Saturday didn’t fall short of excitement as the ladies brought their fish to the scales to be weighed. Over $8,000 in cash plus prizes and trophies was awarded to 25 women for catching first, second and third place for each of the tournaments species. Master Angler, Jean Gifford took home $500 + prizes for catching 6 species. A highlight of the Weigh In was angler Sandy Kyros’s whopping 81.02 lbs Amberjack which took home first place! Following the Weigh In, the Old Salts and City Officials celebrated the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for the NEW Madeira Beach Municipal Marina’s Ship Store which received thunderous applause and was welcomed by hundreds of spectators.
