「EX。tension」is the new sparkle between art and living here. We often have the opportunity to migrate to a city, perhaps because of work, perhaps because of self-guided travel. No matter what, our common purpose is to discover, to understand, to experience the city. Therefore, living in Kaohsiung is not just a behavior, but constantly shaping the city landscape and character in the process of interweaving and traveling. Moreover it’s because of living in Kaohsiung, Tree House Hotel hopes to extend the talkative possibilities about living space, living way and future through the artistic imagination. 「延。深」一場關於藝術與生活在此地的延 伸。我們常有機會歷經遷徙到某個城市，也 許是因為工作，也許是一趟自助輕旅行；不 論透過何種方式，都有個共同目的－瞭解那 個內心想去的城市。因此，生活在高雄不單 單是種行為，而是不斷地在人事物交織的過

Short bio Anang Saptoto (1982), I was born, live and work in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Graduated from Visual Communication Design Major, Akademi Desain Visi Yogyakarta (2005), and Television Study Program, Media Recording Arts Faculty, Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta (2009). I work as an artist, graphic designer, and visual media training facilitator. I also actively participated in photography community, RUANG MES 56 (www.mes56.com). Several awards I have achieved are The Best Young Artist Award, Redbase Foundation (2016), 25 best artwork, Bandung Contemporary Art Award (2013), Environmental Ambassador of Java, Republic Indonesia Ministry of Environmental (2009), The Best Poster Design, Jogja Computer Festival, Yogyakarta (2006). Besides I involved in a number of residency program such as International Art Community Project, Tree House Design, Kaohsiung, Taiwan (2017), Artist Exchange Open Contemporary Art Center, Taipei, Taiwan (2016), ID Contemporary Art Indonesia, Kunstraum Bethanien, Berlin, Germany (2011), Terrorizer Project, Ruang MES 56, Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2004). I started to include in exhibition from 2002 untill today, both as an individual and together with Ruang MES 56 in Song Oen Museum, Seoul, Korea (2016), Retrospeksi dan Pembangunan Perumahan Gunung Sempu, Parallel Event Biennale Jogja Indonesia-Nigeria, in Jogja National Museum, Yogyakarta (2015), Indonesian Contemporary Art and Design (ICAD) #5, di Grand Kemang, Jakarta, Indonesia (2014), Helu-Trans Collectors Series: Southeast Asia/ Contemporary Art, Helu-Trans Gallery, Singapore (2013), Workshop/ Exhibition: Book Play Project #2, Kedai Kebun Forum, Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2012), ID Contemporary Art Indonesia, Kunstraum Bethanien, Berlin, Germany (2011), and others. In my working process, it is important for me to do a knowledge sharing by elaborate a workshop such as photography, video and design workshop. Aside from recognizing the character where I operate, through small discussions in the workshop both me and the people are able to find fresh ideas. During the year of 2003-2009, I frequently conduct a workshop with Greenmapper Jogja, Ruang MES 56, PLAN International, Save The Children UK, and Video Report Jogja. Then, in some places I visited or when I am in residency days I also hold types of workshop independently and collaborate with artists in the particular region.
Few times I had commissioned artwork for display or permanent collection. Among them are anamorphic mural in Hotel Besar, Purwokerto, Indonesia (2017), design and display for archive exhibition of Indonesian Visual Art Archive and anamorphic mural in National Gallery of Singapore (2014), anamorphic mural in PT. Panca Prima Eka Brother, Boyolali, Indonesia (2013). Besides actively being an artist both as individual and in a group, in daily activity I regularly work as graphic designer. Designing
both alone or in a teamwork, doing the design requests in a studio independently or involved in art and culture event. To me, designing is not only delightful but also important, by working on my designs I shape my self-sensitivity in understanding expectations and make decisions to create methods to deliver these expectations so that public will accept them –aside from being as income to fund my family and working process.
