Multi award-winning Ad Infinitum return with their hit show following an international tour, winning nine awards. Experience a journey of life, death and enduring love. After his wife passes away, William escapes to a paradise of fantasy and past memories, a place far from the realty of his grief. Returning from beyond the grave, Rose revisits her widowed companion to perform one last act of love: to help him let go. A poignant, life-affirming tale without words. 'A masterclass in theatricality’ ***** (WhatsOnStage.com).

Macbeth and the witches meet again, in thunder, lightning, but probably no rain (we get enough of that as it is). The hurly burly’s all but done and now it’s time to have some fun. Witchcraft? Yes. Murder? Yes. Tragedy? Not this time! Scotland’s greatest hero returns to plumb the depths of his darkest ambitions. Watch as he descends from legend to villain whilst always remaining a bit of an idiot. As he dives off the cliff of virtue into the pool of evil, perhaps he’ll even do a couple of somersaults as he falls! In a world of buffoons can an idiot be king? How many murders is too many? Can you be truly tragic if everything’s really funny? This is Macbeth like you’ve never seen it - physical, guttural and intelligent - full of energy, comedy and all of the darkness and death that keeps audiences coming back to Shakespeare’s classic.

Shylock has always divided opinion. Is he a villain or a victim? Or is he someone even more intriguing? There is no doubt Shylock is hard done by in The Merchant of Venice, but does he bring it on himself? As one of only two Jewish men in the whole of Shakespeare, he has been portrayed in ways which reflected how Jews were popularly viewed - from comic villain in Shakespeare's day to a victim of racial discrimination nowadays. This award winning, poignant, powerful yet humorous performance - from the company that created the Olivier Award winning Morecambe - brings us Shylock afresh in one of the most globally successful solo shows of the last decade.

This annual festival of excellent drama presents six nights of the best full-length plays from amateur dramatic groups from Northern Ireland and beyond. This year’s adjudicator is Jill Colby GODA. The Festival runs from Monday to Saturday with the presentation of one play each evening by different amateur dramatic theatre groups from across Northern Ireland and beyond. A full synopsis of the plays each night will be available closer to the Festival date from www.thecourtyardtheatre.com.

Three powerful forces in Irish roots music in their own right, Noelie McDonnell, Nicola Joyce and Noriana Kennedy combine as The Whileaways to create a beguiling tapestry of harmonies, tradition and beautifully crafted original songs. Using American folksong as a starting point, all three write and sing drawing on their own experience, and the result is captivating. They have performed on some of the most prestigious stages such as Tonder Folk Festival and were hailed as ‘a knockout of the festival’ at the legendary Port Fairy Folk Festival, Australia. Their recent highly acclaimed album Saltwater Kisses received four stars in The Irish Times and RTE Radio 1 Album of the week. Prepare to be spellbound.

“We were obeying orders” This was the justification of some defendants at the Nuremberg trials in the 1940’s who argued that they were commanded to carry out evil actions. Testimonies from key witnesses led to convictions of those found guilty of War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity. The trial is the inspiration for this play Judgement at Nuremberg. The HMD theme this year is ‘The Power of words’. This play is very relevant to this theme. This will be performed as a rehearsed reading by Ad Hoc Theatre Company.

Directed by Olivier Award winner (for Morecambe) Guy Masterson. "An extraordinary, humbling story of love, family, loss, grief, new beginnings and unexpected friendships. If civilisation falls today, what will become of us? Rebecca Vaughan presents Elton Townend Jones’ new and radical interpretation of the HG Wells classic, a Victorian time traveller transcends across the ages from 1900 to our own far future - from the fall of man to the end of the world. Linen Song

Photograph by Simon Mills

by René Mullin

Thurs 1 March - Sat 28 April René Mullin’s work focuses on place and the texture of place. Within the Irish Linen Mills and textile industry of 1800’s &1900’s Ireland the workers expressed the stories of their lives in song. Communal singing at work created a camaraderie and sense of place for the workers. This work aims to reimagine the enveloping sense of place these songs provided for the linen mill workforce. The songs are illustrated and surface printed on Irish linen in a contemporary style evocative of René’s established minimal style with a fresh lyricism. A series of screen printing workshops will run alongside this exhibition. For details please contact Museum at The Mill on 028 9034 0129.

Abandoned; Not Forgotten? Thurs 28 June - Sat 28 July A multidisciplinary installation by Visual Artist Lise McGreevy, Artist and Composer Marie Therese Davis, Poet Jim Johnston and Film Maker Paul Whittaker. Striping away the political agenda, the remit for all four artists for this installation was to promote and embrace both factions of our society, culturally and equally, to create an original body of work, which they best felt answered the question: The culture, heritage and language of our joint Irish and Ulster Scots history – is it abandoned; forgotten? The reply by all four was a resounding no.

The Outside World Botanical Art By Alison Walker

ENGAGE

Tue 27 Mar - Sat 12 May Alison Walker is a botanical artist with a background in the History of Art. However, a few years ago she felt compelled to take up her paintbrush and, being mad about plants and horticulture, found herself drawn to painting what was growing in her garden. She is particularly interested in the scientific approach to portraying plants, where one attempts to show accurately the subject and its vital parts, often with the aid of a magnifying glass, or even a microscope.

By Antrim Art Club

Tue 15 May - Sat 23 June Since 1951, Antrim Art Club has encouraged its members to use the therapy and tranquillity of painting as a valuable way of creating meaning and purpose in life while also enhancing the quality of their lives, and club meetings continue to represent an opportunity to promote good mental health and wellbeing. Painting provides time to rest, and this relaxation lowers stress levels and increases creativity, something clearly evident in the work on show in this, the Club’s latest annual exhibition.

The Half: Photographs Of Actors Preparing For The Stage

By Sorrel Wills

By Simon Annand

Tue 17 April - Sat 26 May

Tue 5 June - Sat 28 July

Sorrel Wills is an artist living in Antrim, her home for the last 17 years. She works in oils and relishes the immediacy that is possible in using this medium. Many subjects inspire her, and her paintings often feature landscapes, townscapes and interiors with sunlight and shade a continual theme explored throughout her work.

‘The Half’ is an actor’s countdown to walking on stage and facing an audience. Simon Annand’s photographs capture this final half-hour of excitement and intensity before the show begins, allowing visitors to peep into the secret world of the dressing room to discover actors engaging in personal reflections and private rituals, as they make the transition into character. Curated by Kate Bailey of the V&A in collaboration with Simon Annand, it spans over 30 years of British Theatre and includes portraits of many well-known performers.

In this new work she has thoroughly enjoyed exploring using palette knives and is also celebrating her recent acceptance as an associate member of the Ulster Society of Woman Artists.

Do not crop the V&A mark more than this. We do not want our identity to become illegible. Only ever use the artwork supplied above.

Kim’s work is a response to mythologies of people, places and objects across popular culture, art history and personal experience from the gaze of a fan.

By Merville Newtownabbey Photographic Club

Merville Newtownabbey Photographic Club was formed in 1949 by residents of the newly built Merville Garden Village, and membership today remains open to photographers of all abilities and anyone with an interest in photography. The club’s aim is to promote photography as a fine art, and each year it has produced an Annual exhibition of work. This show is a selection of Colour and Monochrome prints from the 2017, 67th Annual Exhibition, and several have been accepted into International salons.

Inspired by mediated imagery and text (from magazines, newspapers, album covers, postcards, etc.), she imagines, explores and constructs, using drawing, painting and collage techniques, real and imagined narratives based around glamorous and iconic objects of aspiration and desire. Themes addressed include longing and the distance of time, place, memory and unrequited relationships; escapism; romance and the female gaze.

Tues 13 Mar - Sat 14 April Hayward Touring’s latest print exhibition features two collections of works by one of the most influential artists of recent decades, Louise Bourgeois (19112010). A French-American artist best known for her powerful emotionally charged sculptures, she was also a prolific printmaker and draughtswoman, most of whose work dealt with strongly autobiographical themes, invoking her childhood emotions of loneliness, desire, anxiety and jealousy. She began making prints in the 1930s in Paris before emigrating to New York in 1938 where she remained for the rest of her life.
