For Christmas 2022 the Theatre at the Mill is proud to premiere the brand new musical play The Shop at the Top of the Town by Michael Cameron (writer of Ruby! and Carson and the Lady) promising audiences the most uplifting romantic and musical comedy of the holiday season!
Step back in time to Christmas in Belfast 1972, the heyday of the classic department stores of Robbs, Anderson & McAuley and Robinson & Cleaver. Crowds are flocking to see the magical window displays while children queue excitedly for their trip to Santa’s Winter Wonderland. Doesn’t every family have their own memories (and a Santa pic!) of those fabulous festive days?
As the bigger shops watch their sales booming, a smaller family store is finding that times are tough and festive goodwill is in short supply. The newly erected security barriers are affecting custom and inside the store, owner Felix Hoffman has a whole shopping list full of festive woes. His faithful staff have their minds on romance whilst he fears his wife Cilla might be hanging her tinsel on someone else’s tree! Meantime, will the store Santa stay sober long enough to deliver all the presents?
A wonderful blend of nostalgia, romance and music, The Shop at the Top of the Town is open from December 2-31 at the Theatre at the Mill. Written by Michael Cameron and directed by Colm G. Doran, this festive feast boasts a stellar cast alongside music by Garth McConaghie, costumes and design by Liz Cullinane and lighting by Ciaran Bagnall.
Along with the turkey, stuffing and hangover, Jake O’Kane’s annual tour is now a firm fixture at the Theatre at the Mill.
Accompanied by the ever-funny Terry McHugh, Jake casts his caustic eye over the preceding twelve months. Make it your New Year’s resolution to buy yourself a guaranteed laugh. After all, it’ll probably be cheaper than turning the heat on at home.

The Legend of Luke Kelly is an authentic show celebrating the life and songs of Ireland’s most iconic and greatest folk singer. Created and performed by the renowned Chris Kavanagh the show is not a tribute but a journey through Luke’s music that has received rave reviews in Ireland and abroad.
An overwhelming endorsement of authenticity is the huge number of followers and regular sell-out performances in Ireland’s most prestigious venues such as Vicar Street and Cork Opera House. In 2011 Chris was asked by John Sheahan to perform with The Dubliners on their German tour and Luke’s family are still in regular attendance at his concerts.
Two-time Grammy nominee Beth Nielsen Chapman returns with her bluesy new single Hey Girl, her first new music in over four years, and the first taste of her upcoming 15th album, CrazyTown, out September 23rd on Cooking Vinyl. Talking about Hey Girl, Beth said: “We were talking about the capacity for survival and overcoming the challenges that are part of being in the world as a female, balancing strength and vulnerability. As the writing of the song progressed, we touched on feeling lost, being taken advantage of, and navigating one’s safety and the experience of not being taken seriously.” Inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 2016, Nashville-based Beth Nielsen Chapman has released 14 solo albums and written seven #1 hits and songs recorded by the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Bette Midler, Elton John and Neil Diamond, plus many more.
Beth added: “CrazyTown is a collection of songs that reflect all the twists and turns of life, especially reflective of this wild ride we have all been living through. I’m looking forward to hitting the road with this new music finally seeing the light of day.”

Give My Head Peace is a night of guaranteed laugh-out-loud comedy and a show definitely not to be missed. Make sure to book your tickets early because this show, unlike The Assembly, is always full!
I Love You, Mum - I Promise I Won’t Die by Mark Wheeler. These are the last words spoken by sixteen-year-old Daniel Spargo-Mabbs to his mother. That night he attended an illegal rave and later died after taking MDMA.
That fateful evening is told through the real words of his friends and family. It is a tragic, vibrant piece of verbatim theatre, with hard-hitting lessons about the use of party drugs. From the theatre company who brought you sold-out performances of Things I Know to be True by Andrew Bovell.
Amateur production in association with Mark Wheeller and MBA Agents.

In the late 15th century, John Blanke, a young black musician of exceptional talent left the ancient city of Granada and made his way to the court of Henry VII of England. There he forged a surprising musical bond with the child who would become the infamous Henry VIII. These two extraordinary young men scramble their way to adulthood full of feeling, often outrageously funny, as they try to figure out love, sex, politics, and what it means to be a man.
Meticulously researched, written and directed here in Northern Ireland by playwright Andrea Montgomery, who is known for her giant Northern Irish Shakespeare projects. The piece has a soundscape by Nick Boyle.
