Tickets: £17 & £15 (Concession) Group Discount Available Time: 7.45pm

Join wildlife filmmaker Colin Stafford-Johnson on a journey of discovery along the western seaboard of Ireland. Colin has been walking, exploring and filming wildlife along Ireland’s wild Atlantic coast over the last 15 years. He recently presented the BBC series Wild Ireland - Edge of the World that featured some of his highlights. But there are many more! Come and hear tales of adventure and misadventure from years spent tracking down some of Ireland’s most elusive creatures - all accompanied by stunning visuals that will make you wish you were there.

Have you ever wondered why men can’t multitask, or why women can’t change a tyre? Wonder no more as the longest running one-person show in Broadway and Las Vegas history, Rob Becker’s Defending the Caveman, is here to challenge and demystify the differences between the sexes. Starring the “hysterically funny” stand-up comedian Tom O’Mahony, the Oliver Award winning show, Defending the Caveman has won the hearts of millions across the globe and now tours Ireland for the first time. Using psychology, sociology and plain old observational comedy, Defending the Caveman highlights the battle of the sexes – the stereotypical and yet, undisputedly true differences between men and women. Why do men greet each other with insults? Why does it take women so long to get ready? Why can’t men talk about their feelings… And why does it seem that women can’t stop? Defending the Caveman has become a peacemaker and a celebration of differences between the sexes.

Tickets: £19 & £17 (Concession) Group Discount Available Time: 7.45pm

Ballet Ireland is delighted to present a national tour of Swan Lake, one of the great love stories of classical ballet since it premiered in 1877.

Leonardo’s peerless paintings and drawings will be the focus of Leonardo: The Works, as EXHIBITION ON SCREEN presents every single attributed painting, in Ultra HD quality, never seen before on the big screen. Key works include The Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, Lady with an Ermine, Ginevra de’ Benci, Madonna Litta, Virgin of the Rocks, and more than a dozen others. This film also looks afresh at Leonardo’s life – his inventiveness, his sculptural skills, his military foresight and his ability to navigate the treacherous politics of the day – through the prism of his art.

This most famous of ballets combines romantic themes, classical technique and ethereal imagery, with Tchaikovsky’s majestic score, to ensure this masterpiece’s immortality.

To be released on the 500th anniversary of his death, this is the definitive film about Leonardo: the first to truly tell the whole story.

“(Ballet Ireland) reaches a new level of artistry with this show” The Irish Times

Swan Lake tells the story of Odette, a beautiful princess, who turned into a swan by day by evil magician Von Rothbart, only to regain her human form at night. Out hunting by the lakeside, Prince Siegfried encounters her and falls madly in love with her. But will he be able to break Von Rothbart’s spell?

In Search of Beethoven Mon 16 Dec

SCREENING

Tickets: £13 & £11 (Concession) Time: 7.45pm

Narrated by Bafta-nominated actress Juliet Stevenson. In Search of Beethoven addresses the romantic myth that Beethoven was a heroic, tormented figure battling to overcome his tragic fate of deafness and who searched for his ‘immortal beloved’ but remained unmarried. It delves beyond the image of the tortured, bad-tempered, unhinged personality, to reveal someone quite different and far more interesting. In Search of Beethoven brings together the world’s leading performers and experts on Beethoven to reveal new insights into this legendary composer. The film has been called the best film ever made on Beethoven – and is the choice of the Beethoven Haus (Beethoven’s birthplace) as the ‘go to’ film on Beethoven. “One of the finest films EVER about a great musician” The Observer

On the same day Manhattan advertising executive Ted Kramer (Dustin Hoffman) lands the biggest account of his career, he learns that his wife, Joanna (Meryl Streep), is leaving him and their young son, Billy (Justin Henry). Forced to raise his son alone, Ted loses his job but gains a stronger relationship with the child with the help of another single parent, Margaret (Jane Alexander). When Joanna returns to claim custody of Billy, the ensuing court battle takes a toll on everyone concerned.

A portrayal of the life of Eva Cassidy through video, voice and song. Elsa Jean McTaggart presents a tribute to her all-time favourite artist Eva Cassidy. With her voice and guitar plus piano accompaniment, she brings alive the essence of Eva as she relates the songs to the beautiful and yet tragic story of one of the world’s most iconic voices, which was not brought to light until years after her untimely death at 33. Elsa’s voice has been described as ‘smooth as velvet... sultry’ (Joe Simmons, Edinburgh Tonight) and ‘One of these very few people with a distinctive enough voice to do the music and songs of Eva Cassidy justice.’ (Tom King Southside Advertiser). An icon of acoustic music. Wistful and emotional vocals, beautiful guitar accompaniment, Eva Cassidy had the power to move audiences through her interpretation of well-known songs. Elsa has devised this very special show to pay homage to this true interpreter of song.

DRAMA

Tickets: £9 & £7 (Concession) Time: 7.30pm

The Portmanteau holds The Trail of The Vampire Bride (by Tom Sampson), Josie’s Fourth Class (by Bob Margrain), Turfing Out (by Tom & Bob) and And More! (by somebody else). In the first of these, Count Krapula attempts ‘trigonometry’ by taking Vampyra as his third wife. The first two, Haemaglobia and Plasma, are less than happy to be given the roles of shabby bridesmaids. DCI Sweeney, aided by DC Todd, and Dr Van Hyre hunt him down. High fashion and forensic science add to the fun of this light-hearted reworking of an old favourite. And for the rest, Josie, having delivered pilates to geriatric and pre-natal classes, and yoga for beginners takes on her biggest challenge yet when visiting the inmates of a prison. In Turfing Out some unexpected relationships from the past are discovered once the code in a love letter is solved. And More!

“In 2017, I travelled around the stunning land and coastline of Northern Ireland creating paintings for a solo show at the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast and noticed many buildings from different primary industries (quarries, textile and wood mills) as well as derelict farm buildings and equipment and decided that this would be my next project. Oftentimes, I would be interrupted by locals who would tell me about the building and surroundings, and I came to understand how much these industries had been at the centre of local communities”.

A BRUSH WITH NATURE II: Chinese Watercolour Exhibition By Michael Rong-Gen Yin

ENGAGE

Tue 8 Oct – Sun 24 Nov Traditional Chinese painting is one of the world’s oldest continuous artistic traditions, and from earliest times nature has been the main source of inspiration for Chinese artists. Michael Rong-Gen Yin, originally from Shanghai, began painting in the traditional Chinese manner in the 1970s, and, having come to Northern Ireland in 2003, he has continued to paint and teach traditional Chinese painting techniques, particularly Gongbi, where intricate brushstrokes form detailed coloured landscapes, and Shui-mo, which is much looser using bold brushstrokes and watercolour wash.

Casey Allum is a self-taught artist and illustrator from The Lake District who specialises in animal portraits. Drawing on the theme of mental health recovery, The Art of Recovery, combines client experience, creative talent and positivity to inspire others. Clients will showcase their talent in various mediums and styles including abstract, fine art, photography, metal work sculpture, cartoon and pencil sketches. ANNUAL EXHIBITION By Jordanstown Art Club

Tue 29 Oct – Sun 5 Jan

ENGAGE

Jordanstown Art Club was established some thirty years ago, and there are currently just over thirty members, comprising keen amateur artists living in and around the Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus area. Following on from their previous successful exhibitions at Clotworthy House the show will comprise a mix of traditional landscapes, seascapes and still life in a variety of mediums; pastels, watercolour, acrylics, pen and wash and mixed media.

STORIES BEHIND THE STONES: CHURCHYARDS OF ANTRIM AND CARRICKFERGUS Tue 3 Sept – Sun 3 Nov This exhibition accompanies the churchyard trails developed for Antrim and Carrickfergus towns by Dr William Roulston through the Mid-Antrim Heritage Partnership between Antrim and Newtownabbey and Mid and East Antrim Borough Councils. The project aims to draw attention to the numerous sources of information for the family historian or interested visitor tracing their roots from church interiors, their associated graveyards and written records. By reflecting on some of the stories behind the stones, it is hoped the trails will enable a sense of place for local residents and spatial understanding of how both towns developed as well as an appreciation of the built heritage of both places and wider environs.

In 2018, to mark the centenary of the end of WW1, Campbell College Belfast launched a year-long project, ‘Men Behind the Glass’, in partnership with the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) which aimed to bring to life the stories of 126 pupils and one member of the school’s teaching staff who died in service during the First World War. The project culminated in the unveiling of a collaborative archive exhibition which is now touring venues across Northern Ireland. It is apt that this exhibition be hosted at Mossley Mill as Henry Campbell, a prominent owner during its time as a flax spinning mill, left money in his will for the setting up of Campbell College itself.

Glengormley Art Club Annual Exhibition Thurs 5 Dec – Sat 4 Jan 2020 Glengormley Art Club has been running for over 25 years and attracts novice, amateur and experienced artists living in Newtownabbey and its surrounding areas. The majority of works are paintings and drawings of landscapes, seascapes, still life and portraits using oils, watercolours, pastels, acrylics, pencil and mixed media.
