There's plenty of excitement in the Ancasta Race Boats sector, too, as we gear up for three Preliminary Regattas for the 37th America's Cup in Barcelona, featuring professional teams racing the strict one-design AC40s. Private owners have shown significant interest in the AC40, and we're planning a busy events calendar – watch this space!
We're delighted to share that the first Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust voyage supported by Ancasta took place in the Solent in June. For every new boat you purchase, we donate the cost of a transformative four-day sailing voyage with the Trust, enabling more young people to benefit from the life-changing after-cancer support that EMCT provides.
And last but not least, we have over 450 used boat listings from which we hope you’ll find a vessel to suit your needs and wishes. If you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, give us a call or pop in for a coffee at your local Ancasta office and we'll carry out a detailed and customised search for you.

The BGM75 is the premier model in the new BGM multihull range. Benefiting from increased stability, large volume, and reduced fuel consumption, the BGM75 exudes maximum comfort, refinement and exceptional livability; founding principles of the Bluegame DNA.
The BGM75 hull design delivers excellent seaworthy credentials, and protective sidewalls result from extra sturdy construction. A spacious beach area and generously sized saloon create exceptional comfort onboard. And movement around the yacht is made effortless with connected cockpits, optimised helm station position, and wide visibility. Inside,
the sumptuous interior design boasts meticulous attention to detail and exudes understated elegance.
Sustainability is also a key innovation of the BGM75. The combination of an ultra-efficient carbon hull, designed by Philippe Briand, lightweight materials for all non-structural parts including furnishings, and optimisation of the Volvo IPS propulsion system contributes to an impressive reduction in fuel consumption; up to 38% of power savings compared to mono hull vessels of the same volume. An additional detail in sustainability is the production of green energy onboard, generated by 56 solar panels installed on the deckhouse.

A LEGACY OF HARMONY
The Oceanis 37.1 is the latest addition to Beneteau's 7th generation of Oceanis Cruisers. This comfortable 37-footer embraces all the line's distinctive characteristics with an easy-to-handle sail plan, nimble cruising performance, and spacious accommodation while also providing enhanced eco-friendly options.
OPEN PLAN EXTERIOR
Simple to sail shorthanded, the rigging runs back to two aft winches, and a self-tacking jib makes manoeuvres straightforward. Plus, all of the instruments, including a 7-inch plotter, are located on the starboard helm console for easy access.
The flared hull provides fluid lines below the water for greater power and stability. And, thanks to having no backstays, the deck layout is very open, with generous double spreaders delivering superior performance.
SPACIOUS INTERIOR
The interior of the Oceanis 37.1 is spacious, with the saloon being comparable to that of a 40-footer. Offset to port, the comfortable sofa and table for six create a sumptuous space for relaxing and entertaining.
In the bow, the double cabin boasts excellent views through two large portholes on either side of the hull. And the aft cabins are generously sized, with the standard layout featuring a king-size double bed and a large sail locker.
ECO-FRIENDLY OPTIONS
The Oceanis 37.1 has been designed with sustainability in mind. The cockpit decks are laid with Iroko, an African wood that is more ecofriendly than traditional teak. It also provides a uniform colour, and doesn’t crack like solid wood decks. Furthermore, owners can opt for an electric engine with a 12 kW pod and 10 kilowatt-hour batteries.

Celebrating its show debut, the innovative Prestige M48 certainly turned heads on the crowded pontoons. And the Sanlorenzo SL 106A was a showstopping highlight.
Ancasta Yacht Club Rally to Cherbourg, May 2023
Despite some challenging conditions, a great time was had by all on the Ancasta Yacht Club Rally to Cherbourg in May.
After a gloriously sunny start on Saturday morning, the fleet sailed downwind across the English Channel to Cherbourg. There was some tricky sail handling to negotiate and a few queasy moments, but everyone enjoyed the cruise and savoured some ice-cold Pimm's on arrival in France.
A relaxing day in Cherbourg followed with a sociable dinner in the evening before everyone headed back to the UK on Monday. Strong winds and a big wind-over-tide sea state made for a testing passage back, but under the watchful guidance of our lead skipper, Tim, everyone took on the challenge and embraced the adventure.

Ancasta Motorboat Club Cruise Mallorca, May 2023
The Ancasta Motor Boat Club Cruise in Mallorca was an incredible three-day event bringing boat owners together for a scenic voyage along the beautiful Mallorcan coastline.
Our lead boat, a brand-new Prestige M48 power catamaran, guided the fleet from Cala d'Or to Ses Covetes, Porto Cari, and Portocolom, and trip highlights included an e-foiling lesson with Flite School Mallorca, anchoring at beautiful Calas for refreshing swims in crystal clear waters, and exquisite tapas at waterside restaurants.
The cruise was also a fantastic opportunity for less experienced skippers to build confidence operating their motor yacht in a relaxed setting, and to make new friends with like-minded owners.

Ancasta Motorboat Club Cruise Guernsey, June 2023
In June the Ancasta Motorboat Club set off on a fantastic adventure from Yarmouth to Guernsey.
The weekend kicked off with a sociable gathering in Yarmouth with crews enjoying dockside drinks on arrival and getting to know each other over dinner in a local restaurant ashore.
The next day, the fleet embarked on an enjoyable and sunny 80-mile cruise across the Channel led by our exceptional skipper, Tim. Safely docked in St. Peter Port, crews shared stories of their adventures aboard Ancasta’s lead boat.
Sunday was a day of relaxation with the boats dropping anchor in Shell Bay on Herm Island, for a delicious lunch onboard Ancasta’s lead boat. Watersports fun in the beautiful waters topped off a memorable weekend before the fleet headed back to the UK.

Ancasta Supports Life-Changing Sailing Adventures With Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust
For every new boat sold, we donate the cost for one young person to enjoy four transformational days sailing with the Trust. This enables more young people to benefit from the after cancer support that EMCT provides.
“If you were to talk to someone who’s not had cancer, they give you sympathy. Sometimes you’re not really looking for that. You’re looking for someone who knows. You just want to talk about it.”
When Shaun sailed with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust for the first time in June, he found other young people he could talk to about it. Diagnosed with a brain tumour at the start of 2022 when he was 23, he found it difficult opening up to friends and family who could not relate to what he was going through.
He was one of the first to have his trip funded by Ancasta, who earlier this year pledged to donate the cost for one young person to go on a four-day sailing adventure with the Trust for every new boat sold.
That time spent on the still and scenic waters off Scotland’s west coast gave Shaun space to share collective anxieties (“Is the cancer still there? Is it gone?”) while making friends with others who have been through the same thing. Or, as he puts it, who are “in the same boat”.
Every day around 12 young people under 25 are diagnosed with cancer.
Cancer can have a big impact on a young person’s mental wellbeing beyond treatment, as what happens after treatment can be as difficult as, if not even more so, than the treatment itself.
For many young people simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis just isn’t possible. That’s why when treatment ends, the
Trust’s work begins.
Shaun’s crewmate, Mark, who also benefitted from Ancasta’s support, said the trip was just what he had been looking for after being treated for lymphoma during the pandemic.
“Cancer is an incredibly lonely experience at times. I was definitely bordering on depression in hospital. The trip was the first time I was able to do something fun and sociable while really getting to know people.
“You’ve all had this horrible experience, but it brings you together immediately, you’ve all got this connection. Within an hour of arriving I thought, these are my people. The whole thing was so much more than I was expecting.”
Shaun and Mark are just two of around 700 young people aged 8-24 who will experience the transformational magic of the Trust this summer. By September, more than 3,000 young people from across the UK will have sailed with the Trust since its launch by Dame Ellen MacArthur in 2003.
But sailing is just the vehicle. On the boat some magic happens. It’s not really the sailing or the water, but the environment being on a boat creates.
Young people laugh, gain a new sense of purpose and self-worth, rediscover independence, and feel optimism for the future. They realise what they are capable of and stop feeling like ‘the only one’. They start to re-establish their purpose and place in the world and believe in a brighter future.
ellenmacarthurcancertrust.org
The first Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust ‘first time’ trip of 2023 took took place in the Solent in June. It was also the first trip which has benefited from the support of Ancasta Group.
Currently, the Trust can take just 1 in 10 of the young people it could each year on first-time trips. By 2025, the aim is for that to be 16% - 500 sailing for the first time, and another 500 returning for further sailing and outdoor adventures.
Frank Fletcher, Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust CEO, said:
“It’s wonderful to be back on the water and to have Ancasta’s support in helping us inspire more young people than ever this summer. For 20 years we have seen the positive impact sailing has on young people’s mental wellbeing after treatment ends. But it is essential every young person who needs us can experience the magic of the Trust. With Ancasta’s help, we can transform more young lives after treatment.”
Izzy was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma at 16. In June, she joined Caledonian Hero - the Trust’s flagship Beneteau Oceanis 45, which was specially adapted with the advice and support of Ancasta - for her first adventure.
This was a chance for her to get back in the driver’s seat after her independence was taken away.
“You lose a massive amount of confidence. You revert to being a bit like a child, your parents look after you, you can’t always do everything for yourself. So, to do something on my own and step away from that safety net was really nice. Sometimes you need that just so you can understand who you are yourself.”
For others it’s about looking to the future with optimism, like Emily, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 24.
“When I was going through treatment, I thought ‘this is a year of my life, and then I can crack on with the rest of it’. I’m a year clear now, life is starting to get back to normal. Trips like this are things I can do now, I can go sailing, I can do whatever adventure I want to do. That’s a really powerful feeling to have after six months of chemo, two surgeries and fifteen rounds of radiotherapy.”
The Trust’s partnership with Ancasta is already helping to inspire more brighter futures living through and beyond cancer this summer. Each boat sold enables the charity to transform another young life and the partnership will continue to make a massive difference in the ambition to support 1,000 young people by 2025.
Reflecting on his four days with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, Shaun said there were so many positive memories he will remember for years to come.
“When you’re in such a positive environment, it feels great to just tell bits and bobs that have happened to us and take it all in. I think that is what’s best for what we’ve been through because you get to process everything in a healthy way. It was amazing.”

37th America’s Cup
PRELIMINARY REGATTAS
As excitement for the 37th America's Cup in Barcelona builds, dates have been set for three Preliminary Regattas, which will serve as warm-up events ahead of the Challenger Selection Series in September 2024 and the final America’s Cup Match in October 2024. These Preliminary Regattas will provide teams with valuable practice and an opportunity to fine-tune their strategies before the main contests.
Here’s the lowdown on what’s happening and how to follow the action.
WHERE & WHEN
• Preliminary Regatta #1
Vilanova i La Geltrú, Spain, 14 - 17 Sept 23
• Preliminary Regatta #2
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 30 Nov - Dec 23
• Preliminary Regatta #3
Barcelona, August 2024
THE TEAMS
Top sailors from the six America’s Cup teams will compete in the Preliminary Regattas. Four crew sail each boat, with two helms steering from the forward ‘pod’ and two crew controlling the sail and foil trim from the aft pods.
• EMIRATES TEAM NEW ZEALAND
• INEOS BRITANNIA
• ALINGHI RED BULL RACING
• LUNA ROSSA PRADA PIRELLI
• NYYC AMERICAN MAGIC
• ORIENT EXPRESS RACING TEAM
THE BOATS - AC40
The first two Preliminary Regattas will be raced in strict one-design AC40s. These incredible foiling monohulls are the world’s newest and most exciting foiling class, with top speeds reaching 50 knots and beyond. The boats’ controls,
page 42

sails, foils and mechanisms will all be standardised, so the emphasis is on crew work, strategic positioning and foiling technique.
To prepare for these events, all the teams have devoted significant time to familiarising themselves with the boats' controls, undergoing rigorous training sessions, and honing their abilities to maximise their performance on the water. The combination of high-speed foiling and the crews’ expertise promises an exhilarating and closely contested series of races.
The third Preliminary Regatta in Barcelona 2024 will be raced in the team’s AC75 boats.
THE RACING
The Preliminary Regatta in Vilanova i La Geltrú will be the first time we see the AC40s line up on a start line and go head-tohead. The event will begin with fleet racing flights to determine the top four teams, who will then proceed to match racing rounds before the grand finale to decide the winner.
HOW TO WATCH
Racecourses for the Preliminary Regattas will be positioned to maximise viewing opportunities for shoreside spectators. If you can’t make it to the events, the races will be available to view via the America’s Cup YouTube channel.
HOW TO FLY
In conjunction with Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ) and McConaghy Boats, the new AC40 is available to buy from Ancasta Race Boats. The AC40 gives private owners access to the latest America’s Cup technology and performance for the first time in sailing history. We have strong interest from multiple private owners and are making plans for an exciting one-design race series.

The Admiral’s Cup Returns
Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club
17th July to 1st August 2025
Cowes, Isle of Wight, UK
The Royal Ocean Racing Club has announced that the legendary Admiral’s Cup will return in 2025. Since its inception in 1957, the Admiral's Cup has held a prestigious status as the unofficial offshore racing world cup. The competition will be a combination of inshore and offshore courses, including the Rolex Fastnet Race, and teams will comprise two boats representing a Yacht Club or Country.
“Bringing back the Admiral’s Cup is a wonderful way to celebrate the centenary of the Royal Ocean Racing Club. The chosen format for the 2025 Admiral’s Cup respects the tradition of the regatta, as well as choosing IRC Classes for boats that are competing offshore at the top level internationally. By announcing over two years before the start of the Admiral’s Cup, teams will have time to prepare for a fantastic event. The RORC’s aim is to attract teams from all over the world for the 2025 Admiral’s Cup."
James Neville, RORC Commodore
IRC Classes
The Admiral’s Cup Class IRC rating bands and length ranges are designed to allow as many boat types as possible to compete at the event. These parameters also ensure that racing remains competitive and intense, particularly during the longer offshore races, and address the topography constraints of racing in the Solent and adjacent waters.
Admiral’s Cup Class 1
• Boats ranging from 44ft, (13.41m) up to 56ft (17.20m)
• IRC TCC 1.335 - 1.464
• The Carkeek 46, Cookson 50 and highly competitive IRC 52/TP 52 are good examples.
Admiral’s Cup Class 2
• Boats ranging from 36ft (11.00m) up to 44ft (13.40m)
• IRC TCC 1.176 - 1.276
• Boats such as the MAT 1340, FAST 40 and IC37 would fit the parameters.
Crew
There are no limitations on professional crew, but RORC continues their drive for inclusivity by allowing one extra crew member, in addition to the boat’s IRC capacity, if a boat sails with two women or two under 25-year-olds, or a combination of the two.
International Teams
RORC will be contacting all major yacht clubs around the world, inviting them to enter a team for this international event. Throughout its illustrious history, teams representing Great Britain have garnered the most success, securing the coveted trophy on nine occasions. Germany has achieved four victories, while the USA and Australia have each triumphed three times, with Australia currently holding the esteemed trophy. France, Italy, the Netherlands, and New Zealand have also celebrated victories in the Admiral's Cup, showcasing the global reach and competitiveness of the event.

Q&A Chase Boat Skipper for Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team
You've just received delivery of a new Protector Chase 330. What is it like to drive?
The Protector Chase 330 is a great boat to drive. It is a very well-built boat, and at the same time, it's super powerful, very fast, and very manoeuvrable. It's just the thing we need to keep up with the F50 catamaran.
JAMES CHAPMAN
Chase Boat Skipper for Emirates GBR SailGP Team
As Chase Boat Skipper for the Emirates GBR SailGP Team, what’s your role at a SailGP event?
As the Chase Boat Skipper, I'm responsible for the chase boat and keeping the shore team, the coach, and the rest of the team in touch with the racecourse. This generally involves staying close to the race boat to allow Robbie, the team coach, to get a good view of what the crew are up to. At the same time, we stay close by in case of any breakdowns or other reasons we may need to assist the F50.
What does a typical race day schedule look like?
On race day, the schedule is normally pretty full on. We'll get down to the F50 early and do our checks. Once that's done, we'll check out the chase boat, and I'll head out as soon as possible to the craning area. I start by dropping the guys onto the F50 as it's craned in, and then we side tow the yacht and take it over to its holding mooring while the rest of the boats are launched. Once that's all done, we're off and out into the race area.
After a day of racing, we will tow the race boat back to its mooring which may involve a long tow at high speed all the way back from the race area. Then we side tow it with the help of another chase boat and stand by until the crane takes the F50 out at the end of the day. Then it's back to the boatyard to help packup and move everything into the shed. Lastly, we tidy up the chase boat and put everything to bed.
It's got twin Suzuki 320 ves on the back, giving us the ability to be anywhere on the racecourse in a couple of minutes. It also gives us lots of pulling power so we can tow it, right the F50 if it capsizes, and get our job done.
We also run the Protector fully loaded. We have a lot of equipment, spare parts, emergency kit, and all six crew on board, plus support staff, and we still have all the space we need. Plus, it's able to keep up with the F50 with everything and everyone onboard.
Are there any special technology or electronics on board?
We have large chart plotters onboard which are fully connected to the race management system so we can see all the penalties and all the ongoings-on on the racecourse. This is really helpful to myself and Rob the coach. As well as that, there's a pretty complex communication system, allowing us to talk not only to the F50, but also race management, event control, and the tech team for technical support.
How do you move your Protector Boats eet between events? Are they simple to transport?
After the event, the RIBs pack up quickly; in just a couple of hours. They're put onto cradles, de ated, and the Bimini is taken off. Then they're put straight into a container. And the great thing is they're probably the biggest boat you can get into a standard shipping container. Then they're sent off to the next event, where we unload them quickly and easily.

Every Scorpion is hand built to the precise requirements of its owner in a purpose-built facility in Lymington, UK. All aspects of the boats' design, styling, moulding and assembly are done by an inhouse team of specialists, including manufacturing the tubes and installing the engines. Complete control over design and build provides infinite customisation opportunities; Scorpion RIBs can even be lengthened or shortened to fit your requirements perfectly.
The three models include RIBs from 8m to 11m and are differentiated by their overall beam; Serket at 2.75m, Sting at 3.1m and the Silurian at 3.25m. They are all available with various power options, including inboard, outboard and waterjet. Additionally, the Sting is available with a cabin and an open cockpit.

Still, all share the unique Scorpion Sting soul, with unbeatable safety, comfort, and breathtaking performance in all conditions. Factory Visit: McConaghy China
A look behind the scenes
Over 16 years ago, McConaghy expanded its Australian-based manufacturing by setting up a full-service boatyard in China. Today, the cutting-edge facility in Zhuhai produces some of the most technically advanced performance yachts on the market, including MC Multihulls, a range of luxurious high-performance yachts with high levels of customisation.
Here, our Multihull Brand Manager, Hannah Le Prevost, and Jeremy Tutt, from Ancasta London, recall their recent visit to Hong Kong to see McConaghy's phenomenal manufacturing processes first-hand.
Zhuhai Boatyard
Despite an early start, our journey to China was surprisingly straightforward. After a direct flight to Hong Kong, a 40-minute hop across an impressive 55 km bridge took us to Zhuhai's colossal 20,000m2 shipyard. This remarkable place is not only home to MC Multihulls but also the birthplace of iconic racing machines, including the revolutionary AC40 foiling monohull. Over the following days, we had the pleasure of meeting Mark Evans, Group Director of McConaghy, Jean-Benoit, General Manager, and Jamie Thompson, Technical Manager, to learn about McConaghy's fantastic facilities and highly customised yacht manufacturing processes.
Strategic Location
One of the most obvious benefits of building yachts in China is the lower overheads. But this doesn't mean quality is compromised – quite the opposite! We quickly realised there's much more to this location than first meets the eye. Surrounded by many of the world's leading product, tech and software manufacturers, such as BMW, Dell, HP, Intel, IBM, Samsung and Sony, the region attracts many talented engineers, technical craftspeople and creative designers. The area is also really well connected, with excellent travel connections globally. This provides McConaghy with fantastic access to plenty of skilled labour to work onsite. And scalingup production to meet demand is made possible.
Cutting Edge Technology
At the heart of the McConaghy Boats shipyard, we witnessed an unwavering commitment to investing in state-of-the-art technology. The shipyard is equipped with everything required for start-to-finish manufacturing. Cuttingedge computer-aided design (CAD) software, 3D modelling tools, and a large autoclave are just some of the tools we saw during our tour. This superb facility enables the skilled workforce to bring McConaghy's innovative designs to life and for the scale of production to accommodate multiple projects simultaneously (there were seven MC Multihulls in build while we were there). The yard also benefits from the expert knowledge and innovative manufacturing techniques bought in by cutting-edge yachts such as the AC40, which is built on the same site.
page 58
ancasta.com/McConaghy
Customisation
With everything made at the Zhuhai boatyard, McConaghy has complete control of the entire manufacturing process, facilitating exceptional customisation options for new owners. From personalised layouts and finishes to technical modifications and custom power solutions, the options are extensive. Mark talked us through the process, which begins with a scheduled call with himself and Crystal, Senior Project Manager, to discuss ideas. The design team then develops initial concepts and produces 3D Cad drawings for sign-off. Once in build, we invite clients to visit the shipyard to see their yacht in production. This is a fantastic opportunity to check that everything is to their liking and starts to make their dream an actual reality!
Skilled Team
After spending a lot of time with the McConaghy team, it became evident that everyone working at Zhuhai is extremely dedicated to producing superb yachts that surpass those of their competitors. Staff retention is high, too. Many of the boatbuilders were recruited when McConaghy first arrived in China and have stayed loyal to the ever-expanding team since. Incredibly, they've gone from 90 to 400 employees in just three years! McConaghy's dedication to quality training has clearly paid off, and we were really impressed by the
boat-building team's care and precision when working on the MC Multihulls. The quality is exceptional, and attention to detail is meticulous. Each multihull model also has a dedicated project manager, to ensure detailed product knowledge and development.
Find out more
Our visit to the McConaghy Boats factory in China offered a captivating look behind the scenes of their remarkable shipyard. Positioned strategically in Zhuhai, the facility benefits from a talented workforce and state-of-the-art technology, enabling the production of cutting-edge multihulls. We're very excited to work with McConaghy as they continue to shape the world of high-performance yachts with their unwavering commitment to innovation and personalisation.

We are delighted to introduce our new Multihull Brand Manager, Hannah Le Prevost. Hannah will be looking after our Lagoon and McConaghy brands, so please get in touch if you would like to discuss the fantastic ranges we have available.
“Growing up on the South Coast meant the sea was never far away, and so I was always out and about on sailing adventures. I also developed an early interest in the marine industry, so started working weekends in the local chandlery when I was just sixteen years old to expand my knowledge.
Fast forward a few years, I graduated from Plymouth University with a degree in Marine Sports Science before returning to Hamble, where I landed an aftersales role with a family-run yacht brokerage. This role then expanded into boat sales with a particular focus on catamarans. I took full advantage of every opportunity to experience the best of these brilliant boats, including a few weeks cruising around the Cote d’Azure! It was the perfect way to explore the stunning Lerion islands and Mediterranean coastline, sharing anchorages with superyachts, while experiencing of the joy of multihull sailing firsthand.
As a result, the catamaran world captured my imagination. Working with amazing
clients looking to realise their sailing dreams is so fulfilling, and the vast list of options which can be customised and fitted onboard really allows production boats to meet the needs of each and every owner, whatever their wishes. The opportunities are endless!
After more than 14 years in my previous role, I am excited to begin my new role as Multihull Brand Manager with Ancasta. My experience with catamarans, Ancasta's reach in terms of how they work with customers and what they can do for them, coupled with both the Lagoon and McConaghy brands being innovative leading names in their own areas of this market, will offer new opportunities for me to work with this ever-growing division of the marine industry.
If you are a multihull owner or are looking to buy a catamaran for the first time, please get in touch. I look forward to supporting you on your multihull journey.”

NOSS-ON-DART
With the opening of our new office at the recently developed Noss on Dart Marina, we now have two yacht brokerage sites on the beautiful River Dart, South Devon. Winding through lush countryside, the River Dart is renowned for its sheltered waters and breathtaking views. A hive of activity, this is a popular base for sailors wanting to explore the South Hams area; there is plenty to see and do on the river itself, and access to the stunning South Devon coastline is simple. Venture up the river to discover pretty riverside villages or enjoy a relaxing day exploring Dartmouth's many onshore activities.

NOSS ON DART MARINA
Once the site of the former Philip & Son Shipyard, the Premier Marinas Noss on Dart Marina is undergoing a £75M regeneration project which includes a new floating marina, fuel pontoon, state-of-the-art full-service boatyard, a dry stack for small motorboats, a multi-storey car park, hotel, residential dwellings and a self-store facility. The newly developed marina also offers luxury berth-holder showers and toilets, a private berth-holder lounge and a cafe. It is a beautifully tranquil setting with superb views over the River Dart and verdant rolling countryside. The location also provides easy access to Dartmouth and the beautiful South Devon coastline.
DART ESTUARY
Dartmouth
The picturesque coastal town of Dartmouth is renowned for its pretty harbour, quaint narrow streets, and vibrant maritime heritage. Colourful cottages cling to the steep hillsides, and ferries dart back and forth to Kingswear on the opposite riverbank. For a good dose of retail therapy, browse Dartmouth's boutique shops and art galleries adorned with local goods and handmade souvenirs. Then indulge in a top-notch foodie scene. Start the day with brunch at the legendary Alf Resco Café. And book a table at Rockfish for posh fish and chips in the evening. Keep the kids entertained with a spot of crabbing, an activity that has become a popular pastime here. Or take a scenic walk up to Dartmouth Castle and enjoy cream teas overlooking the stunning harbour entrance.
Kingswear
The intermittent whistle of the Kingswear steam train will take you back to a bygone era. Puffs of white smoke trail majestically along the river's edge, winding along the scenic route to Paignton. Buy tickets at the charming old station and enjoy a day exploring the Devonshire countryside. Darthaven Marina, home to Ancasta Dartmouth, offers 270 berths, excellent onshore facilities, a full-service boatyard, and an onsite chandlery. The Royal Dart Yacht Club is located here, too. Head there on a sunny afternoon to enjoy chilled Pimms on the riverside terrace while watching the hustle and bustle of the river.
Dittisham
The next village upriver from Dartmouth, Dittisham is a great place to moor up, take the tender ashore and relax for the afternoon. Anchorstone Cafe is popular for its local produce and fantastic seafood. And if you have littluns with you, the public pontoon is a crabbing hotspot!
Stoke Gabriel
If you continue further upriver past Dittisham, you'll reach Stoke Gabriel, another beautiful creek surrounded by lush countryside. Take a walk along the shoreline to Duncannon at low tide. Or bring your paddleboards to explore the tranquil estuary. Book a table at The River Shack for delicious riverside dining and wood-fired pizza.
Totnes
The busy medieval town of Totnes is at the top of the navigable River Dart. Independent shops and cafes offer plenty of interesting trinkets and homemade wares in this bustling hub. Enjoy views over the town from the castle, or relax with lunch, wine tasting and a walk through the vineyards at the award-winning Sandridge Barton winery.

On shore, you'll find a charming high street with artisan shops and well-loved nautical brands. Plus, don't miss the Salcombe Dairy to savour locally made frozen treats and take a coastal walk to enjoy farreaching sea views.
Torbay
Sail northeast from Dartmouth round the spectacular cliffs at Berry Head and into Torbay, the English Riviera. Brixham, a busy fishing town, is positioned in the south of the bay. The 485 berth marina is a short walk from the harbour with state of the art fish market, and full-size replica of the Golden Hind, the ship that took Sir Francis Drake around the world. Meet The Team
Nick Bishop
Nick has been a keen watersports enthusiast all his life, always looking for excuses to be around water and trying out all manner of water based activities. Studying for a maritime degree in Southampton led him to Hamble, where he worked in the yachting industry for the best part of a decade developing his sailing and powerboating skills. Originally moving to Devon to work as a teacher he eventually found the draw of the marine world too strong and settled on yacht sales as a great way to follow his passion. Although specialising in Beneteau Yachts, no matter what sort of boat you desire; sail or power, new or used, Nick is happy to discuss them and will be happy to advise upon the best vessel suited to your needs.
Lewis Horne
Lewis has been around powerboats from a very young age, having been fortunate enough to live by the sea in South Devon his entire life. For 6 years, Lewis worked as a RNLI Lifeguard in the South Hams working closely with other agencies completing numerous rescues and other hazardous events. Having also completed a degree in Ocean Science, Lewis has always wanted to pursue a career within the marine industry, and with his commitment to helping others, becoming a broker for Ancasta was the perfect next step. His experience upon the water leaves him in a great position to assist in the sale or purchase of new or used sail and powerboats
Jennifer MacDonald
Jennifer grew up in the wild and remote Outer Hebrides of Scotland before setting off for the warmer climes of the Mediterranean. Here, she worked on Swan 60s and super yachts, gaining over 15 years of experience on prestigious vessels, including Feadship, Alloy, Trinity, and Royal Huisman yachts. Jennifer also has impressive ocean-going experience completing eleven Atlantic crossings and two round-the-world trips! More recently, Jennifer decided to return to the UK, where she begins a new adventure with Ancasta working at our new office in Noss, and she looks forward to assisting you with all your boating needs.

Guide to going aloft
At Advanced Rigging & Hydraulics, we’re used to working at heights; going aloft to complete inspections and carry out rig work is a daily occurrence. For many yacht owners, though, it can be a daunting task. Yet it is one that is important for the crew to be familiar with. In most cases, it is sensible to restrict mast climbs to when you’re alongside in port, but, as any experienced sailor will tell you, that is not always an option. Here we look at some top tips for going aloft, but we would always recommend you consult a rigging professional if you’re inexperienced or are unsure about climbing your yacht’s mast.
Check your equipment
First, check you have the right equipment - a high-quality Bosun’s Chair or suitable harness that fits comfortably around the waist and legs. It should be certified to carry the weight of the person going up the rig and obviously in good condition, so check thoroughly for wear and tear even if it is a rarely used item. For going aloft at sea, a harness should be used in preference to a Bosun’s Chair. The harness or chair should be rigged with a safety tether and a load-rated climbing carabiner.
Consider your clothing. Bulky or tight-fitting clothing may be a hindrance when working, and ensure you wear strong footwear. If you are going aloft at sea, or on a windy day in port, consider wearing rubber boots and a helmet for head protection as the motion and movement will be significantly more than you experience on deck.
If you are going aloft to carry out a specific task, ensure you are taking the right tools with you. As pockets in a bosun’s chair can be shallow or non-existent if using a harness, consider securely fastening a canvas bag to the chair. If the bag seals, you should be able to open it with one hand. In the bag, take your essential tools – consider these carefully so as not to overload, but also think about what you may need in order to avoid unnecessary trips. Tools should be attached with lanyards, to prevent them from falling to the deck, which could cause damage to the boat or injury to the crew.
Take a short piece of rope with you, so that you can tie the bosun’s chair or harness to the mast for additional security when you reach the area you are working on.
On deck preparations
This advice assumes you are going aloft with several crew available to assist, and that you’ll use two lines – a primary and a safety line. Professional riggers and those experienced in going aloft may have different preferences and methods and the choice may be limited by the lines available.
Ideally, select halyards that offer the safest possible method to go up the mast – ensure they are in good condition, and if unsure, mouse a new line through, if possible. Ideally, use the ‘lowest’ halyard that will reach the working area. Avoid going aloft on an external halyard that utilises a hanging block, always choose a halyard that passes through (or into) the mast.
Use the two lines, one per winch, and designate a lead wincher for the main number one line and a second line tailer, taking up the slack on the safety line. If available, also have a designated spotter to relay messages or observations to the lead wincher.
When connecting the line to the chair or harness, always use a knot, and never a splice of any kind, or snap, or key shackle. A bowline with a half hitch in the tail to keep the knot from spilling, or another climbing knot could be tied – if the line has a splice, tie the knot several inches up the halyard, since the line will tend to fatigue near the shackle. Tie the knot yourself and ask a second crew member to check it.
Discuss how you and your crew will communicate once you go aloft. The bigger the boat, the more important communication devices become. Perhaps use a hands-free headset on an open mobile phone call and make sure any devices are securely attached and cannot fall. In case of failure, agree on a series of simple and distinguishable hand signals, or knocking on the mast with a tool can be easily heard, with an agreed number of knocks per command.
The ‘Climb’
It can be laborious and time-consuming to manually winch a person up the mast, so the person going aloft can assist by climbing using the same technique as when climbing a rope, and using spreaders for support and steps if they are available. On deck, make sure the clutch is closed during the climb and ensure there are several turns around the winch to prevent the halyard from slipping – the number of turns will depend on the resistance of the winch being used.
page 84
This advice is given in good faith and provided for information only. We thus accept no liability whatsoever for following our guidance.
When climbing, watch out for protrusions such as radar housings, deck lights, windex, comms systems, etc. It’s very annoying to ascend, fix an issue and then break something else whilst up there! The deck crew should also maintain a good lookout on both the ascent and descent to help direct if needed.
When you reach the “workplace”, fasten yourself to the mast or rigging in such a way that you can move within a circle of about one arm’s length. Work as efficiently as possible, but do not neglect safety and thoroughness. Do not drop anything –remember that a tool dropped from the masthead can punch a hole in the deck or injure a crew member.
Back on deck, the halyards must be securely cleated when the person aloft is in position, even if a self-tailing winch is used. If no cleats are available, use a towing hitch for additional security, and a spotter should always remain on deck.
Returning to deck
Before lowering the person, the line should be checked to ensure that it is free from kinks, that the clutch has been
Book a Rig Check
opened and that there are several turns around the winch. When ready, lower at a steady speed using a hand-over-hand technique, preventing riding turns on the winch, and not too slowly. Lowering the climber down with abrupt and jerky motions is a common mistake made by the winch operators which can be uncomfortable and unnerving for the person in the bosun’s chair. Try and keep the process as smooth as possible – again clear communication is key. Spotters should keep a watchful eye for fittings or other projections that may snag on the way down.
On reaching the deck, ensure there is enough slack for the climber to untie themselves comfortably, and ensure lines are correctly stowed once you have finished with them.
Get advice
Do speak to a rigger if you are unsure about going aloft for advice and to talk through how best to achieve the process safely on your boat. Practice is important in a controlled environment in port, so if you do find yourself needing to go aloft at sea you will be familiar with the process and have a plan in place with your crew.

Stand J204
In the course of 65 years, Spencer Rigging has seen it all. Rich in history but hailed for its innovative and ‘can-do’ approach to projects, the company has been commissioned to produce rigs for elite racers, Arctic explorers and even the occasional ‘pirate’. Attractions baring their creations, such as Lords Cricket Ground, Legoland and the Eden Project, are visited by millions each year. There have been appearances on the silver screen in films and hand-carved tillers held by royalty, to mention just some of the variety of jobs completed over the years.
The company’s late founder, Harry Spencer, holds a legendary status for many in both the local and international sailing communities, and rightly so. “The more challenging the problem, the more determined he would be to overcome it,” his obituary states. “Spencer Rigging is simply an extension of Harry’s personality, a mere blend of artistic sensibility and brute force, with his unerring sense of the right way to do a thing, and his uncanny skill in managing any impossible job the world brings.”
On display: Stand J204
Operating from the unmissable Empire Buildings on St Mary’s Road, Spencer Rigging is part of the historical yachting patchwork of Cowes, used daily by visiting sailors and commissioned internationally to bring their expertise, experience, and problemsolving approach to projects large and small. Here we take a look back at the colourful history of the newest member of the Ancasta portfolio, ringing in a new era, but holding true to the same ethos for the rigging specialists.
Early Beginnings
Harry Spencer was born in Gurnard, a stone’s throw from Cowes, in 1925. And although his career took him all over the world, he always referred to ‘The Island’ as home until his passing in 2009. When Harry left school at 14, he began a colourful career as an apprentice at J.S. Whites, a shipbuilding tour de force with sites on both sides of the River Medina. He would go on to be a chameleon of the industry, with stints in all areas of the marine trade, from pattern maker to yacht hand, yard foreman to RNLI delivery skipper, and shipwright to sail maker.
During the bombing of Cowes on the night of 4th/5th May 1942, he played his part during the bombardment by standing on a corrugated roof at Thetis Wharf (which he later owned) wearing a tin helmet, putting out fires with a garden hose. After the raid, Harry collected unexploded incendiary bombs in his rowing boat,

which he described as being painted green and looking like leeks sticking out of the mud. In peaceful times a decade later, he would have a more leisurely commute in his rowing boat, venturing across The Solent and back each day to work in a Hamble sail loft.
With the closure of the shipbuilding sections of J.S. White’s, and most boat manufacturing moving to large facilities in Europe, there was a wariness of the future of Cowes, and its place in the future of marine manufacturing. Undeterred, Harry Spencer realised highclass stainless steel rigging was required for the new aluminium masts being produced – at the time a cutting-edge solution using the most modern of techniques. Soon his services and expertise were so in demand that within a year of starting what was to become Spencer Rigging, he had five men working for him including Ben Bradley, who would work with Harry for over 40 years. “I joined Harry, who was Skipper of a 12 metre called ‘Norsaga’ which was a trial for an America’s Cup Challenge mounted by the P&O Shipping Company,” Ben explained in an interview about his career with Memories of the Sea. “By chance, an aluminium mast left over after P&O pulled the plug on the project was sold to the Pirate Radio Ship ‘Caroline’ and so started further radio ship contracts including Radio Yorkshire and Radio Scotland. At the same time, yacht racing designers were specifying aluminium masts in place of traditional wooden masts and yachts were made from fibreglass, and in production numbers.” Business for Spencer Rigging boomed.
Home to legends
Home to Spencer Rigging since the 1960s, Empire Buildings is a striking feature on St Mary’s Road, and originally opened in 1910 as the Empire Electric Theatre. It was a small theatre run as a Music Hall and Variety Theatre, and right from its opening, licenced for dancing, plays, and music, it also showed early films along with the variety acts on its stage. The theatre was redecorated and reseated in 1913 and again in 1921, but the house lights went out for the last time shortly after.
During the war, Empire Buildings’ large footprint in the centre of town provided a vitally protected staging area and the building was used for bus storage and as an auxiliary fire station.
After Harry Spencer acquired the building, it was fitted out to provide the practical space demanded by the vast array of projects worked on by Spencer Rigging. With design and functionality at the heart of the business, the same attention was turned to the loft, providing a working area for the hands and space for thousands of metres of standing and running rigging. It was soon the hub of
the business, and with each Cowes-hosted regatta, the yachting elite were welcomed through the enormous blue barn doors to discuss their requirements, as Harry and his team worked away with frenzied precision.
As Spencer Rigging expanded, it coincided with more international racing events, such as the Admiral’s Cup, which, by the 1970s, had up to 19 nations taking part, each team with three boats. The loft played host to several infamous Auscrew parties with kegs and coolers placed amongst the rope racks and ensuing nights of revelry are ‘somewhat remembered but never truly forgotten’ by those who were there!
Businesswise, Spencer’s continued rigging some of the world’s most famous yachts and found new markets in supplying marine technology such as high tensile cables and rod rigging to tented structures, roof tie bars and glass wall projects, evolving with client’s requests and driven by Harry and Ben’s innovative problemsolving attitude.
The tradition continues
Neil Brinsdon, Spencer Rigging’s current Managing Director, first joined the team in the Empire Buildings in 1991 shortly after leaving school. He would go on to spend almost 18 years travelling the world and working on a myriad of projects from Cowes to Korea before joining Advanced Rigging & Hydraulics, part of the Ancasta Group. When the opportunity arose to add Spencer Rigging to Ancasta’s portfolio, it was somewhat of a homecoming for Neil, and an opportunity to come full circle to continue the traditions he first learnt in the industry.
Today, the loft is home to unrivalled manufacturing and lifting facilities, producing rigging for all sectors, including wire swaging (1.5mm to 32mm), talurit swaging (1mm to 58mm), and rod rigging (-4 to –540). Its in-house production of lifting equipment includes webbing (CE Marked), chain, and wire slings, with a multitude of applications in the commercial sector. Clients still include classic yachts returning to Spencer’s for traditional re-rigs and bespoke projects for race yachts. In any sales particulars, a reference to Spencer Rigging is seen as a hallmark of an owner’s thoughtful attention to maintenance and integrity.
Marking its 65th year of operation in 2023, Spencer Rigging has moved with the times and the team eagerly awaits more diverse projects to apply their expertise in the years to come.

New Build Sanlorenzo SL96A
Follow the Build - Part II
In the summer of 2022, we began working on a client's new build Sanlorenzo SL96A. Sanlorenzo's approach is entirely bespoke, with the only limitation being the hull shape and exterior profile. So, the vessel is entirely customised to the owner's wishes, tastes and lifestyle.
Even by the time of signing of the contract, the owner had itemised 411 custom modifications outside the standard factory options list and, to date, this number has now broken the 500 barrier. Unlike any competitor brand, the shipyard have taken this totally in their stride.
Sanlorenzo UK has been liaising closely with Sanlorenzo's Interior Design Department to support our client at every step of the selection process, helping them choose all furnishing details, inclusive of furniture and supplies.
The build is happening at Sanlorenzo's shipyard in Ameglia, just south of La Spezia, Italy, with a launch scheduled for April 2024. Here we take a look at some of the key modifications and how the build is progressing.
Custom Furnishings
When it comes to furnishings, Sanlorenzo provides customers with a blank canvas. Instead of being tied to the builder's specifications, clients have the freedom to choose unique freestanding pieces of furniture from renowned Italian brands like Minotti, Natuzzi, Frag, B+B, and more. Modifications can also be made to suit personal tastes and complement the interior style. In this instance, our client has chosen luxurious Minotti "Connery" sofas, a chaise longue, and handcrafted tables by Sanlorenzo. The dining table is also multifunctional and electrically adjustable; it functions as a coffee table by the window when lowered and slid to starboard.
Galley Modifications
Furthermore, the galley is fully equipped with two ovens, a warming drawer, two dishwashers, ample fridge and freezer space, and an abundance of worktop space.
Crew Quarters Personalisation
Although the design and configuration of the main living areas take priority, our client has also considered the needs of his long-serving staff. The client has chosen to enhance the crew area with the same door hardware as the rest of the boat as well as fully carpeting the area to dilute the divide between guest and crew areas. The Chief Stewardess/Chef will enjoy the benefits of an enhanced cabin and shower room, and the convenience of multiple laundry appliances. These include two Miele Pro washing machines, two Miele Pro dryers, and one combi washer/dryer. Additionally, the deck and interior crew have access to Spot Zero Water, enhancing the cleaning process inside and outside the boat.
Electric Steering Options
While electric steering remains a relatively recent innovation, our client acknowledges the numerous advantages that come with this groundbreaking technology and has chosen to incorporate it into their SL96A. By eliminating hydraulic pumps and hoses, the installation process becomes notably simpler, and the entire system occupies less space. Moreover, the WorldYachts system boasts exceptional reliability, ensuring that the power steering remains unaffected even if one engine ceases to function.
Anchor Enhancements
The vessel is equipped with two 125kg anchors fitted into designated compartments, and each side is equipped with a polished stainless-steel chain. Chain washing pumps are fitted as standard and chain counters have been added, along with each anchor pocket being fitted with a camera and light for easy deployment and retrieval of the ground tackle. The windlasses are 400v AC 3-phase, 4kw with brakes and as a custom addition, our client has also opted for two additional capstans on the foredeck area to facilitate quicker groundline handling and provide a backup retrieval method should the main windlasses fail.
Our client is kept fully informed of the interior design plans throughout the build process, with drawings and updates sent regularly for feedback and/or approval. The galley is an area we have been developing together to ensure the space works seamlessly with their life onboard. For example, the layout features a custom butterfly-wing serving hatch on the starboard side to allow food, drinks and empty plates to be passed between the galley and front-of-house crew quickly and efficiently. Additionally, finishing touches, including a highly durable Dekton worktop, reflect the client's personal preferences but also practical mindset. sanlorenzoyachts.co.uk

Charter Investment
WHAT IS CHARTER INVESTMENT?
Our Charter Investment programme is run in partnership with Navigare Yachting. The idea is that you invest in a yacht that is then chartered out by Navigare and, depending on the level of investment you opt for, you can earn back up to 12% revenue per year or use the charter income to finance the remaining cost of the yacht. You will then take ownership of the yacht at the end of the 7 year contract. All of the running, berthing, insurance and maintenance costs will be covered by Navigare. Plus, you will enjoy all of the benefits of the Navigare Holiday Programme which provides you with a minimum of 8 weeks a year on any of Navigare’s charter yachts all around the world and access to their choice of luxury holiday villas.
KEY BENEFITS OF CHARTER INVESTMENT:
REDUCED INITIAL INVESTMENT
Navigare provides an option whereby the initial investment from you can be as low as 40% of the value of the yacht. The remaining value of the boat is then funded via the income generated by Navigare’s charter programme and a final payment from you at the end of the agreement, allowing you to spread your outlay over time.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT
If you choose Navigare’s Complete or Ultimate Finance packages, you will earn back up to 12% of the value of the yacht every year. Although this requires a 100% upfront payment of the value of the boat, this is a fantastic return on investment and you will still own the boat at the end of the 7 year term too.
HASSLE FREE YACHTING
Navigare invests a lot of time and money into looking after your yacht so that it has the best possible second hand value at the end of its charter programme. This means that you never have to worry about any of the ongoing maintenance costs and can enjoy hassle-free yachting. Plus, you can keep track of all maintenance and servicing activity on your yacht via an online servicing system and receive a full service record at the end of the investment period.
NAVIGARE HOLIDAY PROGRAMME
You can enjoy sailing on any of Navigare Yachting’s charter fleet of 250 yachts situated in Croatia, Greece, the BVI’s, Mallorca, Thailand, Seychelles and Bahamas. Plus, you will have access to their luxury land holiday destinations located all around the world. Navigare’s expert concierge team will help you to find the best holiday for you and your family.
BROKERAGE SUPPORT
Navigare and Ancasta will help you to find and purchase the yacht of your dreams and one that will deliver the best return on your investment. Whether you want to pay for the yacht up front and earn an income from it, or only pay a fraction of the initial cost and pay the rest off over time with charter income, we can help find the best solution for you.
CHARTER EXPERTS
Navigare is one of the world’s leading and award winning charter companies. With over 250 yachts in 6 countries, Navigare attracts over 35,000 charter guests every year on both bareboat and crewed yachts. A Swedish company established in 1995, Navigare prides itself on its Swedish ethics and invests a generous amount of time and money into maintaining its charter fleet to a very high standard and recruiting exceptionally skilled and friendly staff to keep guests coming back again and again.

SO HOW DOES IT WORK?
There are four Navigare Yacht Investment programmes to choose from depending on how much capital you wish to tie up over the investment period – usually 7 years. Navigare can also work with you to develop a bespoke investment plan that works for your own individual lifestyle and investment needs, as well as include any other lifestyle assets that you have to offer, such as luxury villas or other charter yachts:

COMPLETE FINANCE You loan Navigare the full purchase price of a new boat and receive a fixed revenue of up to 9% of the value of the boat every year. You will also have access to their holiday programme during the term of the agreement. At the end of the agreement, the boat is yours.
of
SMART FINANCE You pay a reduced fee of around 55% of the value of the boat. This option ties up less capital, but there is no annual return to the investor; the revenue is used to pay off the remaining cost of the boat. At the end of the agreement, the boat is yours.
SMART-LOW FINANCE This works in a similar way to the Smart Finance package, but the initial investment is as low as 40%-60%, with a delayed staggered final payment of 15-20% at the end of the investment period. At the end of the agreement, the boat is yours.
ULTIMATE FINANCE You loan Navigare the full purchase price of a new boat and receive a variable income of up to 12% of the value of the boat every year, depending on charter performance. Through this programme all servicing, maintenance and insurance costs are covered by you, the investor. You are able to use the yacht for your desired amount of time and at the end of the agreement, the boat is yours.

Starting as a boat builder and laminator, then moving into the office as an estimator, Paul's passion for the marine industry is deep rooted in his family history. Influenced by his father, a retired ship's captain, his interest in sailing began during his time competing in the winter Frostbite dinghy sailing series in Whitby. Later, he transitioned to yacht racing and studied boat building, marine aeronautics, and hydrodynamics, at the marine college in Falmouth. Paul then embarked on a varied boat-building career with Nelson motorboats, Pete Goss’ 120ft Team Philips catamaran and the Phoenix 77 project being just some of his highlight projects.
Tom Cload, AYS Project Manager
As an AYS project manager, Tom is passionate about delivering a personalised service to customers, and providing expert advice on maintaining, repairing, or upgrading their boats.
Tom is a seasoned sailor with a wealth of experience in the marine industry. Growing up in Plymouth, he developed a deep love for sailing from an early age, participating in national and international competitions as part of the Team GB squad. Transitioning to yacht racing in the Southwest, Tom achieved success with various teams. Having managed his family's boatyard in Plymouth for over a decade, Tom has extensive knowledge of boat repairs and maintenance. He also has Yachtmaster and Lloyds Surveyor qualifications.
Jonathan Rodriguez, AYS Project Manager

His previous experience includes managing complex yacht maintenance and refit projects for a yacht charter company in Barbados, and skippering luxury charter catamarans. As a result, Jonathan has excellent knowledge of yacht systems, including electrical and mechanical upgrades.

The Ancasta Yacht Services Apprenticeship Scheme, led by our Production Manager, Richard Barnes, works in collaboration with City College Southampton to encourage more people to pursue a career in the marine industry. Working on luxury leisure yachts is exciting and rewarding, and requires a unique skillset that, once mastered, can create fantastic opportunities. Our Team Leaders are dedicated to passing on the skills and knowledge of their individual crafts to inspire the next generation of boat builders, marine engineers, and project managers.
Alfie Kneale-Cohen (21) joined us in May as a Marine Engineering Apprentice. Studying at the Marine Skills Centre at City College Southampton, Alfie is in his fourth and final year in the Ancasta Yacht Services Apprenticeship Scheme. Having helped maintain his father’s Beneteau Oceanis sailing yacht, he is currently undergoing an extensive training program to bring him up to speed on engineering for leisure boats which is his field of choice for the future.
Callum Hughes (17) joined us in July as a first year Boatbuilding Apprentice. Callum is currently studying a BTEC course in Carpentry & Joinery at Eastleigh College and is very excited to be a part of the marine industry. Engine Servicing and Maintenance for Cruise Ship Tenders
In a departure from our usual luxury yacht support, our engineers recently visited The World, a private residential cruise ship, to replace the timing belts on the passenger tenders. The World was only docked in Southampton for three days, so the works had to be carefully planned to fit with their tight schedule.
The cruise liner's Chief Engineer was very impressed with the Ancasta Yacht Services team and their work. As a result, we have now been commissioned to look after all future engine servicing and maintenance for their passenger tenders until they are replaced in five years' time, including carrying out works on the tenders while the ship is in dry dock in Spain.
“We have just finished testing all four engines. They are all in good order. Your guys were fast and efficient, and I am very pleased with them and your service. I look forward to working with you again in the future.”
Chief Engineer, MS The World

Swan 46 Repairs and Restoration
By contrast, another recent project was much more familiar territory, carrying out refurbishment and preventative maintenance on a Swan 46. Our primary works were to bring the deck back to life by re-caulking and then sanding the teak deck, treating the hull for osmosis prevention, followed by antifouling.
The boat was kept in our undercover workshop in Hamble for the duration of the work, providing the team with easy access to the decks and a temperaturecontrolled environment which helped speed up the process, avoiding any weather delays.
Teak Deck Refurbishment
The restoration process began with the careful removal of all the old caulking from the teak deck, filling and fairing where necessary. Following this, we focused on increasing the seam depth of the teak, significantly extending the decks lifespan by 7-10 years. This approach is both cost-effective and environmentally friendly compared to a complete teak replacement.
The recaulking was carried out by our skilled shipwrights who can transform an existing deck or lay a completely new deck as required. Whether you prefer a traditional teak deck or a more sustainable alternative, we can create a durable and aesthetically pleasing deck that can withstand the test of time.
Osmosis and Antifouling
To ensure protection against osmosis, we applied the highly effective Gelshield 200, a 2-part epoxy. This quick-drying and high-performance epoxy serves as a formidable defense against osmosis, requiring just five coats for optimal results. The advantages of using Gelshield 200 far outweigh the costs and efforts associated with repairing a hull already affected by osmosis.
The application process entailed several meticulous steps. Initially, the hull underwent a shot blasting procedure to eliminate the old antifouling, followed by thorough sanding and degreasing. To ensure a precise application, the hull was carefully masked and protected, with any pinholes spot-filled as necessary. Subsequently, five coats of Gelshield were applied, providing a robust protective layer. Two coats of antifoul were added to complete the process.

Why Sell Your Boat with Ancasta
Based on ability and resources, Ancasta guarantees the highest level of local and global exposure for your boat, working quickly and efficiently to secure suitable buyers. When you list your boat with Ancasta, your broker will assume full responsibility for the entire boat-selling process, from arranging a photoshoot to ensuring the transfer of title and funds. Here is an overview of how we offer a level of service beyond the norm, establishing confidence with buyers worldwide and maximising the net proceeds from the sale of your yacht.
Boat Preparation
The key to a quick and successful boat sale is to create good first impressions. If you present your boat with care and attention, you are far more likely to receive attractive offers when you put your boat up for sale. But we understand that not everyone has the time to spruce up their vessel, so we have access to dedicated technicians and boatyards who can prepare your boat for you. Our professional brokers can also advise on extra modifications that may help the vessel sell quickly and for a better price.
Establishing A Fair Price
Establishing a fair price for your yacht is very important. If the price is too high, you'll probably put buyers off. Too low, and you risk missing buyers who are looking for quality. The key is to offer good value. Our qualified yacht brokers have an excellent understanding of the market and will review all of the latest industry data, and assess the quality of your yacht, to establish the fairest market value for your boat.
Photos And Video
Presenting your boat in the best possible light will also help you achieve a successful and speedy sale. So, as soon as you decide to list your boat with us, we will work with you to dress your boat appropriately before taking high-quality photos of the boat. We can also create a 360º virtual tour so potential buyers can get a realistic view of the boat, wherever they are in the world. These and the boat's specifications are then uploaded to our website and CRM database.
Marketing
When your boat becomes available, it will be promoted to all of our 24 offices, 40 yacht brokers and 45,000 active buyers. Your broker will also search Ancasta's CRM database of qualified boat buyers across the network, matching your boat's criteria with their requirements. A full specification of your boat is sent to them, along with an invitation to arrange a viewing. Ancasta has extensive marketing resources and an international reach. With an in-house marketing team, a robust CRM system, high traffic website and a busy boat show calendar, there are multiple opportunities for your boat to be seen by active buyers.

Search For Buyers
If you want to sell your yacht quickly, you'll need to get it seen by as many buyers as possible. But it's not just about reach; you also need to make sure it is seen by the right people – people looking for a yacht like yours. All our yacht brokers are highly skilled sales professionals, and our approach is uncompromising and energetic. We proactively reach out to potential buyers and grasp every opportunity to promote and sell your boat. We receive buyer enquiries daily, so respond quickly with suitable brokerage opportunities. We also monitor the marketing reach of your boat and look for alternative promotional channels if required.
Assisting Buyers
As well as working for vendors, we also provide a broad range of boat services and advice to buyers, including finance options, insurance, surveys, VAT advice, storage, and boat yard services. These extra services make us an attractive option for buyers who want a hassle-free buying experience.
Negotiating
All Ancasta brokers are ABYA members and are highly qualified to manage your sale. When you receive an offer for your boat, we will negotiate to ensure you get the best price possible. We also have an in-house lawyer and dedicated boatyard technicians to hand and can negotiate sales in multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish, German, and Dutch.
Facilitate Sea Trials And Surveying
Serious buyers will be keen to test your yacht at sea and have a qualified marine surveyor inspect the boat. They may also want to haul the boat out of the water to observe the hull. We will attend the sea trial and marine survey to ensure everything goes smoothly and to answer questions. We will also help you address any issues uncovered in the survey.
Completing The Sale
Ancasta manages every step of the selling process, assuming all responsibility for the paperwork and contracts. To ensure a smooth and secure transaction, we hold title documents and other necessary paperwork, organise the sale and purchase agreement, draw up title transfers, oversee the completion and handover process, and manage purchase funds via a Client Account for your total protection. When the sale is agreed upon and finalised, we will handle the completion and ensure a smooth handover.
