What is the Mentoring Program? Mentoring is a development strategy where MENTORS facilitate the development of learners (MENTEES) by sharing what they know‌their expertise, resources, values and more. Mentoring benefits the MENTOR, the MENTEE and the entire community – building stronger and more successful businesses and business relationships.
Benefits of Becoming a Mentor • Proven method to share ideas and to try out new skills • Enhance the ability to share values and strategies into productive action • Increased awareness • Renewed enthusiasm for your role as a mentor and with your business • Personal fulfillment by investing in others and sharing your expertise
Benefits of Being a Mentee… • Insight into the pros and cons of options and paths • Increased self awareness and self-discipline • Expanded personal network • Someone to test ideas, strategies and plans • Positive and constructive feedback • Accelerated training and development
Mentor Expectations • Have reasonable expectations of the Mentee but you are not responsible to drive the relationship • Be a resource but don’t do the work • Allocate time and energy but not expected to be an expert • Help Mentees develop an appropriate plan but not provide personal counseling or coaching • Follow through on commitments but don’t provide or find job opportunities for the Mentee
Mentee Expectations • Identify initial learning goals but you are not expected to be an expert • Take responsibility for making initial contact with your mentoring partner but don’t expect to know all of the questions they will ask • Seek feedback but don’t feel things have to be right • Take an active role in the learning but don’t expect to fit all development goals into one mentoring relationship • Allocate time and energy but don’t look to mentors to provide all of the answers • Follow through on commitments but don’t request personal counseling or coaching from your mentor.
