There are many wonderful things happening in Andover, our big, small town. Andover continues in a healthy growth pattern regarding housing developments and apartment complexes for our steadily growing population. The Heritage Square construction is moving at a good pace and will provide 50,000 square feet (about half the area of a Manhattan city block) of commercial space, offering more places to eat and shop, as well as 186 resort style apartments with a parking garage for its residents all located next to the Heritage Plaza, a new gathering place for the Andover area community. Residents are expected to be moving into the Skylofts in the later half of 2023 and commercial businesses beginning in the months following. There will be inviting lifestyle housing of many varieties being built from the north end of Andover to the south end of our fine city!
Fire Station 2 will be complete in October 2023 and the remodel of the current Fire Station will start soon after and will be completed in Spring 2024 as part of the Family Future Forward sales tax.
The 13th Street Sports Park will be complete mid-summer of 2024, with five recreational baseball/ softball fields (designed to accelerate drying time,) a splash pad, and much more.
The city staff continues to work on infrastructure and one of the more noticeable improvements coming is an extension of Yorktown Parkway. This thoroughfare from 13th Street to Central Ave will be west of Butler Community College on 13th Street. It will improve travel through the city making it easier for Andover residents to enjoy all the amenities Andover provides.
The tornado recovery continues to go as well as one could ask but never fast enough. Prairie Creek Elementary is open and received $200,000 to replace and update technology damaged in the 2022 tornado from a US Congressman Earmark.
The YMCA water park is open, and the rest of the facility will open in 2024, once again serving the Andover area. Central Park received a lot of damage, losing over 1,200 trees and the beloved Lodge. The Parks Department saved some trees that would have been cut down in the 13th Street Sports Park Expansion and relocated them to the Central Park for them to be there for generations. The Lodge will be replaced and once again service families as a location for birthdays, reunions and graduation parties. The timeline for the Lodge has not yet been determined but is being diligently worked on by staff and the governing body.

The Family Future Forward project at 13th Street Sports Park is designed to remodel the park in phases, that are planned to finish up in late 2024. Phases 1 and 2 include new ball diamonds, multipurpose field, walking trails, dog park, splash pad, playgrounds and restrooms. The new Community Center is part of Phase 3. PARKS & RECREATION
Andover is home to two large parks, three mini parks, and one neighborhood park. Andover Central Park is currently the biggest park and is home to the Capitol Federal Amphitheater®. This park features a disc golf course, a dog park, a playground, and even a fully stocked lake, Lake George. Nearby, the Andover Public Library sits directly next door to City Hall, ensuring everything residents need is centrally located.
The 13th Street Sports Park hosts many of the youth and young adult sporting events and sports teams. There are many multi-purpose fields outdoors, a sand volleyball pit, basketball courts, and access to
the Redbud Trail. However, the 13th Street Park will be undergoing renovations 2023 - 2024, so most of the park will be inactive during this time.
Through the City, there are three mini parks located in some neighborhoods with small playgrounds for children. At Cornerstone Addition, there is a bigger park for public enjoyment as well.
Through Andover, with multiple points of access, the Redbud Trail can be used by anyone in the Andover-Wichita area. It is 11 miles, starting in Andover and stretching to Wichita, with plans to push the trail into Augusta in the upcoming years.

MEETING facilities
The Capitol Federal Amphitheater® is a major attraction to the City of Andover. At capacity, it seats 10,000 people.
Anyone can pay a fee and reserve the beautiful outdoor space for any event. Full day reservations of the Amphitheater are available yearround, but be mindful, there is no indoor space available in the event of inclement weather.
The Conference Cabin is a city operated, and ADA accessible facility located along Yorktown Parkway in Central Park. It is an ideal location for meetings, special occasions, and general use by the public. The Cabin accommodates roughly 20 people, and hourly reservations are available year-round.

COMING FALL 2023
In the 13th Street Sports Park, the Andover Community Center is an alternative to the Conference Cabin, as it is also a great location for meetings, special events, or general use.
The main room can house up to 200 people seated at tables, or up to 300 in theater-style seating. Hourly reservations are available year-round at 1008 E 13th St.
There are four park shelters located around Andover. The Central Park Shelter and the Central Park Gazebo, are both within walking distance of each other inside of Central Park.
A shelter located in the 13th Street Park and a shelter at the Redbud Trailhead are both available to reserve throughout the year.

GREATER Andover DAYS
One of Andover’s longest standing traditions, Greater Andover Days, has been ongoing for over 55 years. This year’s event consists of a three day festival of events, including a parade, KidFest, craft and business expo, golf and disc golf tournament, car show, concert, fireworks show, and several other fun activities
throughout the weekend across the city. Greater Andover Days grows and changes each year, much like the City in itself. The festival brings together families and travelers from across the Andover-Wichita area. This year’s Greater Andover Days will be held on September 29 - October 1, 2023.
GOLFING in Andover
Andover is home to three golf courses. It features a municipal golf course, off of US-54, a nine-hole, par 33 course with six par 4’s and three par 3’s. This course was built in 1988, and is a mature course for all skill levels. For more information on pricing, or any questions, contact 316.733.8070.
There are also two private courses in Andover. These courses are located in Terradyne Country Club and in Flint Hills National Golf Club. Each of these courses are only available through membership, though a full service restaurant is available to the public at Terradyne.
Terradyne features an 18-hole, champion caliber course with a 3-hole practice course and a 320 yard driving range. Flint Hills National Golf Club has hosted several professional golf tournaments, and has been ranked top 50 golf courses in Golf Digest, and is fully private to those outside of the membership.

Christmas HOMETOWN
On the second Thursday in December, Andover Central Park, and surrounding establishments, become a winter wonderland. The evening starts with a tree lighting ceremony and the arrival of Santa Claus, with a variety of other fun activities through the night. Newly added as of 2020, is a holiday light contest open to any businesses or homes in Andover. Andover Sharing and Caring
benefits from this event each year with donations of toys, staple/canned goods, and cash donations from Andover citizens. Caring and Sharing is a non-profit organization that provides resources to families in the area. This celebration is fantastic for young families that are wanting to make memories, and helps others in need. This year’s celebration will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

HISTORY
The City of Andover is located in Western Butler County. The city was incorporated in 1957 with a population of 166 and covering less than 1 square mile. In the 60 years since, the population has grown to over 15,000, and currently covers 11 sq. mi.

PUBLIC SAFETY
• Andover Police Dept. has 28 sworn officers and 10 civilian employees. The dept. has received “Law Enforcement Accreditation” (from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies). This is awarded to less than 3% of LEAs nationally. The Andover Police Department became the first in the state to have dual accreditation through the Kansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.
• Andover Fire-Rescue serves around 18,000 people and an area upwards of 37 miles. Response units and personnel are deployed from two stations in the fire district. Andover Fire-Rescue consists of 22 career, 5 part-time, and 11 volunteer firefighters
