Having been out of the game for a few years I was tempted back into football by the club’s structure, ambition and passion for playing football the right way. Joining a management team with a wealth of Wessex League and local football experience was a no brainier for me, their vision to develop the players at the club through quality coaching session’s fits perfectly with my coaching philosophy.

Working with Jamie and Thomo on the training ground, we are bringing in professional practices to take the club to the next level, this includes performance analysis thanks to VEO (video footage), psychological techniques and player plans to improve game day performance and player confidence. I was tempted back into football by the club’s structure, ambition and passion for playing football the right way.
It has been one of the strangest preseasons I have ever run, training in small socially distanced bubbles with no contact play definitely posed a challenge for the coaching staff and club. The players adapted well and committed fully to the challenging situation. We focused on the technical side of the game and the quality of our ball work and movement until a relax in government rules allowed contact play. The managers put in place an extremely challenging pre-season fixture list which tested the squad physically and mentally, putting them in great shape for the season start on the 5th.
We have a great squad at the club that are all keen to learn and improve, and a very strong Swifts squad with a few youngsters knocking at the door of the first team. Our focus now switches to the Wessex Division One campaign and making sure we start in the right way. An excellent 2 nil win away at Newport in our opener is just reward for everyone's efforts during preseason. We are hoping to build some momentum and get into that winning habit against Petersfield, they will obviously be looking to bounce back from their opening day defeat so we are anticipating a highly competitive game.

HE SAID: “It’s a club I’ve been with since the age of 15, growing up in the reserves and then progressing into the first team. When I left last season I thought it was the right decision as I feel the time away has made me a better player. After speaking to John and Danny and seeing the calibre of signings coming in helped massively with my decision. ” DANNY FIELD

STEVE HARVEY
The League is saddened to hear of the death of the Hamworthy United’s Steve Harvey.
His interest in football probably began with his Dad and Grandad who used to run a local team called St Hellier Athletic. It is not known if Steve actually played for his Dad’s side, or not in his playing days. He also became and still is an A.F.C.Wimbledon Supporter, yes there are some.
Steve soon got involved in the local football after moving down to Dorset. He then went on to manage Corfe Mullen F.C in the Dorset Saturday League playing on a piece of ground owned by the Wessex Water Company which he turned into a football pitch.
Almost single handed he maintained the pitch as well as running the team. After a while this became too much, and so they returned to playing at the Rec. Steve went on to manage Lytchett Red Triangle and Bournemouth Sports before deciding to quit managing. Chris Hicks has been appointed as Assistant Manager at Bemerton Heath Harlequins moving along from the Bypass Ground, where he had been involved with the Romsey Town Development team. Brendan Holmes marked his 100th appearance for Andover Town with a goal in their 4-1 midweek win over Whitchurch United, talking of milestones, Mike Byrne has completed 150 appearances for Hamble Club. Former Baffins Milton Rovers Manager Steve Leigh has joined Horndean in the capacity of First Team Coach. The Hammers did try to get him to join the Club, but at that stage he was not ready to do so, but he did later accept an offer to become a Director of Poole Town FC. He then joined HUFC as Chairman for a while and then went to Wimbone Town as a Director.

Steve returned to Hamworthy United when it was going through a very tough period due to several members of the Committee having retired, or had left the Club. It was in serious danger of folding through lack of volunteers. He steadied the ship and together with the then President David Manuel threw himself into the planning and building of the new clubhouse. However, Steve not only oversaw the building of it, but spent hours doing a lot of the work himself.
Steve had a clear vision of where he wanted to take the Club, but had to resign due to his fatal condition. There is no doubt without Steve Harvey’s hard work and drive, Hamworthy United would be all the poorer, making him a
