DAMAGED STATE, BULGDING

The Rocca has patches on the walls that are “bulging”. The two layers of stones are falling appart. The exterior level is heavely damaged or destroyed. This is problematic for multiple reasons : fragilization of the parts structurally sollicited, infiltration of water but also of vegetation, rats, dust, the stones are supporting each other so that kind of damage expendS, the missing stones make the surrounding strones fall too. This problem can happen for different reason and is common, usually the structure moves or is sollicitated in inadequate way (we can think here about the hearthquake) and the internal forces bulge the walls until the stones finally fall. One recognized and sure solution is to : 1. clean as much as possible the exposed internal layer 2. reconstruct the missing part reinforcing by transversal stones called header stones. For non completly destroyed part header stones can be used too, replacing stones or injecting cement.
