Fashion Tips For Winter by: Charlotte Bleasdale

With our winters getting progressively worse we thought it was about time someone offered a guide to staying fashionable, warm and comfortable during the snowy season. Dressing for the weather doesn’t mean you have to look dowdy; in fact it’s quick and easy to find a fashionable outfit that’s winter proof! The idea is that a snow friendly outfit will keep you warm, dry and looking fantastic. With a bit of forward planning that doesn’t have to mean gaiters and hiking boots! The shoes The most important part of your winter outfit is your footwear! There’s no point heading out in the snow wearing stiletto peep toes or boots with no tread. The perfect pair of winter boots should have the following: 1. A good tread

2. A waterproof outer 3. A thick sole 4. A warm lining Obviously they also have to look good! As long as your boots have all of the above, even a small heel should be manageable. We can’t stress enough the importance of a thick sole. Thinner soled shoes will simply freeze leaving you with little or no grip. If you go for wellies then get a fun and funky pair that will keep your outfit looking fresh, it’s also worth considering wide calf boots. They leave you more room for tucking in your trousers! If you’re really set on wearing some less than grippy shoes then it could be worth investing in some slip on crampons. They’re easy to attach to your shoes and don’t change the look too much! The jacket Next up is the jacket, it’s key to keeping your body warm, and forms a major part of your outfit! We prefer a good, thick wool jacket with an umbrella to a waterproof. It all depends how on trend you want to be! Opt for a long jacket, preferably with a hood that comes down past your hips. This allows

it to cover the tops of your legs as well as covering the join between top and trousers/ skirt. Capes are popular this year; the advantage is that you can cross your arms inside them to keep warm. However, they do let in a lot of wind so it’s down to how warm your layers are underneath!

Accessories Accessories are yet another important part of the snow-safe outfit. Go for gloves, (we like the type with cut off fingers and a removable mitten) a good hat, scarf, thick socks and an umbrella. Earmuffs are optional. You can have real fun with your accessories. All that matters is that they’re warm, so use them to give your outfit some personality! The top Knitwear is usually the best bet in cold weather, but layer it with lighter, cotton tops. This means when you arrive at your destination and the central heating is full blast you won’t boil, but neither will you freeze outside.

The trousers We like to wear leggings, thick tights or skinny jeans in this weather. The close fitting means they’re warmer than baggier styles. Plus they can be tucked into your boots to keep the cuffs dry. Perfect! So get ready to face the wintry weather without going out of fashion and remember; snow doesn’t have to mean a departure from style! Just work the winter look!

Winter Time Fashion by: Jacob Simon

Sick and tired of winter? Who isn’t -- other than possibly pro-snowboarder Shaun Palmer and pro-skier Shane McConkey. Even folks who make their living off of winter, like tire salesmen, chimney sweeps, and snowplow drivers, can’t appear to wait for the frosty days to end. Fortunately there’s 1 very good thing about cold weather: winter fashion. It’s just fun, with all the layers and bold colors, not to mention the furry lambskin boots. This time of year, each glossy cover of Elle, Vogue, and Mademoiselle makes me dream of searching like one of those glam girls wrapped up in a delectable sweater and plush boots. Unfortunately every single time I try to mimic one of those magazine looks, everything goes astray. Just this week I tried the tight jeans-bulky sweater-chunky boots look. It looked winter, however it didn’t work for winter. I fought with each and every jacket in my closet, trying to cajole 1 to button over my new oversized turtleneck sweater. I was relieved when I finally got my pea coat to close, but the relief washed away when I bustled over to the mirror to see that I looked about 7 months pregnant. All the layering could be good -- if I was studying polar bears in the Arctic for the day. I wasn’t. I was on my method to work. I made a fast stop at the coffee shop, and also the second I walked in, I started overheating. By the time I got to the counter, I could smell my perspiration starting to mix with the wool of the sweater. I like the natural beauty look, but I’m not fond of the smell. I was waiting for my mocha and madly fanning myself with a menu, when I glanced down to see that my new furry boots had nearly been ruined by the rock salt scattered on the city sidewalks.

After all the time I spent buying, planning, and putting on my new outfit, my sparkly chandelier earrings were the only thing that survived the morning. They had been the least costly part of my attire, and I got compliments on them all day. Apparently just a little twinkle makes men and women feel good. Like any smart woman, I resort to black inside the wintertime despite what the houses of haute couture scream at us about wearing a lot more color. Black looks very good day or night, and for a girl on the run, it doesn’t require significantly thought. The best factor about black is that it hides all forms of flaws, like those caused by eating an entire pumpkin cheesecake on Thanksgiving. But black is not only thinning; it’s an excellent palette for accessories. This year, ladies have loads of jewelry choices. You can fall back on the old fundamental of diamonds. Or you are able to try this winter’s exciting new collections of colored pearls and shells. They look fabulous with black, and they may be as dressy as a diamond necklace, although offering more personality and flare. It is possible to also highlight your eye color having a similar colored necklace. Nothing is a lot more wonderful than a pair of sapphire blue eyes with a matching necklace. Rhinestones are generally a holiday favorite. This season, designers are making use of them with fiber optic glass and silver. It’s a new take on a jeweler’s staple. Red stones can highlight the flushed skin and rosy cheeks of winter. As well as the fiber optics within the glass makes the necklaces, earrings, and bracelets glow. The mixture creates a look that no 1 will forget. And something which will normally go with black, additional black. Onyx is a gorgeous stone that when highlighted with silver can make a very simple black sweater and slacks into a classic cosmopolitan look. Dangly onyx earrings are stunning with pulled back hair. Onyx is wonderful due to the fact it can go with virtually anything. It makes red extra refined, pink more subdued, and white more exotic. So don’t let gray skies and stale snow keep you from feeling gorgeous. Next time you go to your closet and feel bummed out about having to squeeze your outfit under your jacket, toss on a gorgeous pair of earrings. Everyone will notice them, even together with your jacket on. And unlike that oversized sweater, you are able to keep wearing them when the warm spring days finally return.
