Why? “A football match more is important than saving our planet”. Our concern for the place we live in, where stadiums are built and football is played is in decay, and I can’t help but wonder; why is football more important? Not that I have a special thing against football -it is just a good example- but, isn’t that ridiculous? This book is a basic answer to that question and it is [the book] nothing but an invitation to witness a collection of reasons why I believe a place like Patagonia deserves to be protected. What you will find in these pages is my love for a corner of the planet that -hopefully- will inspire you to contribute to its safekeeping. We all must do our part. This planet is not a gift from our parents; it’s a loan from our children.
It’s Magic As grown ups, most of us lose the ability to believe in magic. Patagonia is one of those places where the feeling comes back and its ancient forest transports you to the real where unknown creatures might exist. Where trees seem to have a voice and a way of talking to you. The very fabric of dreams can be found on intrincate corners and the scent of peace can me taken from the air.
01
It’s pure adventure Places like Patagonia offer something truly unique. Real adventure! This sanctuary has the ability to make you feel disconnected from civilization and it provides an irreplaceable emotion of uncertainty. One can almost taste isolation and mystery, as the unknown is lurking around every corner. Patagonia is wild, truly wild and it should remain like that for as long as possible.
02
It’s raw and viceral You push towards the summit. You breach through the lush green forest and you arrive to the open field. Your eyes cannot believe its immensity, its texture and power. You feel little and insignificant. Above all, Patagonia is a place that makes you feel humble as you witness the complexity of its surrealism and beauty.
03
It’s simple Far from the complications of modern world, Patagonia is a place that lives in a time capsule. It is slow and it forces you to its pace. It brings you to appreciate the true nature of life when you don’t worry about the every day normal stuff. It is medicine for the soul and a resting place for your brain.
04
It’s unexpected As you go through the different regions. As you visit it in different seasons, Patagonia has always something new. It always shows a different face, more beautiful than before. I have been exploring it for years and it just never gets boring or old.
05
It speaks to you Patagonia is just the name we give to this vast area, containing thousands if not millions of living organisms. From trees to animals to a wide arrange of bugs, Patagonia has a voice. You can hear it when the birds are singing, when the rivers are flowing and when the leaves of the trees are dancing to the wind‌ a calming voice that speaks to you about the importance of nature.
06
It’s not ours Patagonia is a gift from the planet. Something we shouldn’t take for granted and something we should preserve for future generations. We cannot look the other way around because we live far from it or because we have never been there. Our clean air and water depends on places like this one. Therefore, we are all equally responsible.
07
Its scale Have you stand atop a mountain of ice? Or stood in front of a hundred meter ice wall? Patagonia will shrink the biggest ego and leave you in true awe. This is the majestic feeling that only places like these can offer. To slap you back into perspective at the same time the return the faith in beauty. There are special corners in the world, reserved for those willing to truly appreciate them.
08
Its colours Red, purple, green, blue, yellow... Few places on earth show more intense shades that close to the southern end of the world. Sunsets are inexplicable as sunrises are ridiculous. As in true HD, Patagonia seems to amplify sharpness and tonality, becoming an everyday spectacle.
09
My personal thought I cannot force anyone to love this place as much as I do but I really hope this -very- small sample of what my eyes have witnessed will spark something inside of you that will propell you in the right direction. This direction is simple: do whatever you can to preserve this treasure.
