Types of Drug and Alcohol Rehab Posted by Into Action Treatment on August 27, 2015 in Articles There are many types of rehab therapy programs. When considering rehab it is important to consider the type for the specific condition. Most rehab facilities are for substance or alcohol abuse, however, there are also other types that will help to re introduce the addict (recovered) back into society.

When considering what types of rehab therapists there are one will wish to consider the types of rehab facilities. Let’s examine the various types of facilities.

Types of Rehab Facilities Residential: In a residential rehab program the patient will live in the treatment facility. These may be voluntary, court ordered, or a part of a transition or deferred (court ordered) program. Patients will live in the facility for a specified amount of time (this could be anywhere from three weeks to a year depending upon the treatment facility). A few will have lock down hours where the patients cannot leave the grounds. Others may allow patients to leave, however they won’t allow them to return to the facility.

Halfway Houses: These are also referred to as a sober living house. They are a transitional phase for patients who are exiting a treatment facility, exiting a jail or prison sentence with some time remaining or for those who need to live in a more structured environment in preparation of living on their own. Patients in these facilities can work, go to school and they may also be able to participate in other approved activities.

Outpatient: An outpatient program will allow the patient to live on their own as long as they are attending the specifics of the program. This may include a specific daily routine such as counseling; work and the specifics will vary according to the patient and their needs. The patient will be required to check in frequently and expected to maintain their end of the agreement.

Community Based: This will be a community endeavor. It may include such things as Alcoholics Anonymous or AA. They may have centers where addicts can drop in for encouragement and accountability. They may also offer other forms of 12 step programs as well as Narcotics Anonymous.

Other Less Common Facilities: There is also women’s drug rehab for women only. Here they will help women to rebuild their lives and address issues that are very specific to women. Teen Drug Rehab where teens will be helped along with their families. Dual Diagnosis rehabs: or those who are struggling with more than one addiction. Here they will also offer psychiatric counseling and care as required.

Holistic rehabs are also available where they will utilize holistic methods of treating the patient. These therapies may include such alternative therapies as acupuncture, meditation, yoga, nutrition and other alternative type treatments.

Payment Methods:

Some insurance companies will pay for rehab treatments. Others will require a loan or a private payment. Never let money be an issue preventing you or your loved one from seeking treatment. There are many options available. Ask your preferred facility what they have to offer if you’re in need of treatment and have no way of paying for it.

With so many different types of rehab available it may sound very complex. What works for one person may not work for another person. Sometimes, it is trial and error to find the right combination to treat

the addict.

With the right rehab facility, patients will learn a new lifestyle as well as new coping skills. Success will be dependent upon their determination and ability to follow through with their newfound skill sets.

It is not unusual for some patients to require multiple attempts at rehab before they are completely free from their addiction or addictions.
